This was very helpful as it definitely showed me the need for waste yarn as I need to seam together the ends for some projects I’m working on. Can you also explain how to remove the scrap yarn at the end of the project as I’m having a difficult and time consuming time getting that part off. ***Update: I just came across a way to remove your waste yarn easily. You add one more row of waste yarn in a different color after your main waste yarn. When ready to remove, pull the loop {and all of that yarn) from the second color of that one row of waste yarn and the rest drops right off! Game changer. See “Remove waste yarn in less than 5 seconds” You Tube video.

I can't recall which video it was, but one of the tutorials I've found for using my Sentro suggested using 2 different colors of scrap yarn. The first is used for five or ten rows, followed by one row of another contrasting color.
If you make sure the loop at the halfway pin (24 on my 48 pin Sentro) is a bit loose with your second waste yarn, you can grab it and gently pull it out from between your first waste yarn and your project yarn. It's like unzipping it! You can immediately remove the first waste yarn and set it aside to unravel at your leisure. It means dealing with some extra yarn tails, but greatly simplified the waste yarn method for me :)
I also found a tip for putting a small piece of scrap yarn on pin 48 and 24 (I usually do it on row 5, and 5 from the last row on my project yarn) to help with making sure you halve the tube neatly. It saves on having to count stitches, too, when doing a crochet finish!

Waste yarn to set up your project. Thus this is my hint for hats !!! Set up on waste yarn, knit 12/14 rows. Knit one row only with CONTRASTcrochet cotton. Knit the main yarn, 110 rows or required length. ( this hat will be on the double) knit one row with CROCHET cotton. Then waste yarn for 10/12rows. If you wish to do more than one hat. Here's a tip that I use. The 1st hat is finished. Before you remove it. ?? Do One Row of COTTON as before, then waste yarn and ONE ROW OF CROCHET COTTON KNIT YOUR NEXT HAT. YOU KNITTERS WILL UNDERSTAND THIS WITH PRACTICE. I WOULD DO 6/8 HATS AND LEAVE ON THE WASTE YARN FOR READINESS FOR NEXT PROJECT. NOTE:: PULL THE SECOND CROCHET COTTON TO SEPERATE EACH HAT. FROM 80yr Old Crafter . ❤.❤❤

So much for the closed seam at the 'top'... are you supposed to use the same method for the bottom? Yes, that's what I set out to make.... a closed rectangle...... I thought this was a TUTORIAL on WHY to use waste yarn. And why did you crochet that unsightly row to join the 'top' seam? Why wouldn't you use a Kitchener Stitch/Grafting Stitch to -seamlessly- join the two sides?
Your explanation of the WHY of using waste yarn is only half explained. Come on... you're supposed to be teaching, not teaching 1/2 a lesson and leaving the other half to the viewers imagination.

Great video! I've started learning about loom knitting and hear about "waste yarn" in some videos but wasn't really able to realize the difference and being a lazyass, I might have started with no waste yarn. Thanks to this video though I find it quite important. Me being lazy won't want the extra effort it would take on the curled up yarn without the waste yarn over even just 5 rounds of waste yarn. The extra cranking would be more worth it compared to the a less pretty finish on the edge without the waste yarn.

I'm new to the knitting machine world and I'm finding your video's brilliant in teaching me. But I've gone into panic mode on the joining of the ends on this one as I don't crochet. I've been a knitter for years but I've been able to crochet. And you went so quick I couldn't see what I had to try and do. Or is there a way as a knitter I can do it?

I'm confused. At 3:24 in the video the main color yarn is placed under the SAME hook as the waste yarn, Then 2 seconds later the video changes and it shows the main color placed under the hook NEXT to the waste yarn. So which hook should I place my main color under ?

Hi Lili! When doing a colour change you want to place the new yarn under the peg next to the old yarn. In this case the waste yarns ends on peg 48 and the main colour starts on peg 1. Sorry for the confusion!

I am just getting used to using waste yarn and had a question...how do you remove the waste yarn if it ends up on the inside of your project? One of the yarns I use is fuzzy, so I keep that side out which makes the waste yarn end up inside after I close the ends up.

I was just checking out some articles and trying to find waste yarn videos. I WAS trying to see what the big deal/interest was.
After watching this video all I can say is HOLY COW!!! You've made it so easy to understand and now I absolutely get the appeal of using waste yarn. Thank you for taking the time to film and share this video. It has given me a new thing to try that I am very excited for, thank you! ❤

Hi, i am new in using the knitting machine i have the sentro 48 needles, my question is how do you make the stitches closer or tighten in your product..
I have tried several times, but the output is always to loose, tho i use the tension lever in the machine.
    Thank you ❤

So, I am wondering if your hat has the straight edge on it instead of the curves. I figured it out though that if you use the darning needle and go around to the left picking up that stitch you have picking up with your hook, I am able to pull the yarn to close it.

    • @yojihiyo
      @yojihiyo Рік тому

Oh yeah, it’s important to go from inside and pull the yarn out, just as you would if it was still on the machine. Needle always start from inside and pull outwards, going left, of course.
