    Looks matter for safety! Gear sitting at home doesn't keep you safe. So be honest with yourself and get gear that looks good enough and feels comfortable enough that you'll actually wear it.

    The heated layers is a great idea. And maintenence supplies you can always use. I'll be honest, if someone bought me a smoked visor it'd sit on a shelf and never get used. I sometimes commute in the dark and tinted visors are useless. My helmet has drop down shades and it is the best of both worlds. Not as cool looking unfortunately, but more practical for me

    Cardo had an edge over Sena for a while with their speakers, but not any more and the interface Senas use is arguably better. YMMV
    I use cardboard to protect my tire and wheel when spraying on chain wax (or cleaner). Works great. A dry lube or a wax will avoid fling off.
    Personally, I don’t like backpacks when I ride, not do it want a bulky thing on my back if I crash.
    I have to agree that RevZilla has a kick ass return policy.

    Chilly chest - newspaper! Granted it's been quite a while since I've bought a newspaper, but I've been out and about before on a bike and have needed a little extra insulation so picked up a free paper and used a few sheets in the front of the jacket. Works a treat!

    I can only think of other stuff if a person specifically requested something they either talked about or something they want, for example heated grips, tank bag, tank pads, tail tidy, emergency set stuff or even spare lights a lock or some tools. All fun stuff if one talked about it. Hope this helps anyone else seeking for gifts.

    Lali - tip for Gerbing gear.
    I've got a jacket liner (2008) that is not a tight fit. If you need the extra heat - find something stretchy that's a snug fit - put that over the jacket so that it's snug. Makes a big difference at 26 degrees 😎
    Nice job!

    Lali, heated gear is the way to go. I have had the “ base” layers for years ( at least since 1996) and Gerbing is the best. The gloves, pants and jacket are so toasty on those cold 🥶 days even down to freezing temps.
    Yes I have tested them down to those temperatures

    The chain paste is a game changer for me, I'm really OCD when it comes to cleaning, and ending up with a greased up rear rim and other parts after spending a half day cleaning the bike to factory finish was enough for me and just couldn't find a practical way to lube the chain without spraying it on places where I didn't want it to go. Now I glove up and massage the paste ONLY on the chain and it stays there. Brilliant product!!

    • @monstereng43
      @monstereng43 Рік тому +1

      Irritating af. Never seems to matter how long you let it sit before you ride or how much extra lube you wipe off with multiple clean rags it always seems to fling onto the rim and the lower left side of the tail plastics and if you don't wipe it off that day it gets harder and stickier to clean off

    • @lakaiskates8064
      @lakaiskates8064 Рік тому

      @@monstereng43 I just finished up my first season of riding and used some cheapo castrol chain lube I found at walmart.
      It worked in the sense that my chain is nice and rust free but EVERYTHING was covered in lube.
      I thought I had an oil leak but it was just lube dripping down from my front sprocket... an obscene amount of lube. Took me a couple of hours to clean up lol.
      Y'all have any experience with Maxima Wax based chain lube? I bought some but haven't ridden with it on to see if it flings.

      @corbel793 Рік тому

      @@lakaiskates8064 I use it, it’s best to apply when the chain is warm. So I have a good ride, quick clean and spray. Then I let it sit and set before I go out. It doesn’t splatter, I make a bigger mess when I’m lazy with my cardboard shields.

  • @nephicus339
    @nephicus339 Рік тому +3

    Bonus idea; if they wear glasses, a gift certificate from FlyingEyes (previous sponsor of Lali's).
    I've been wearing my Luzon pair for a little over a week. The thinner, flexible arms of the glasses are great for helmets or noise canceling headsets. The field of view is huge, too, which I really really appreciate. The magnetic clip-on sunglasses are not insignificant when added to the frame, you definitely notice how much thicker your lense frame becomes.
    Negatives; found out today they are not compatible with N95 masks. The flexible arms will let these glasses slip off your head if you look straight down (bent over a backpack for example), this also means they don't grip your head, so an N95 mask will just push them off your nose, and then they'll slip off even easier. (Side note; I've started sitting upright more, and keeping my chin up more since wearing my Luzon set from FlyingEyes because of this. So it's not all bad)
    now realizing i forgot to use lali's code at checkout. RIP.

    Really interested in the heated base layers especially the pants. I ride bike (in Ontario, Canada) now till it gets about 34 - 38*F in the morning, I have a half hour commute to work. When my commute was 10 minutes I rode till ~14*F and its always my knees that get cold. Feet are ok, recently installed heated grips so that helps the hands a ton. Love riding the bike, save so much money on gas.

      I've used heated gear before in cold weather. It's pretty awesome. My first go was a sweatshirt from Milwaukee tool company and it takes a m12 battery. Was actually pretty nice under a leather jacket. But nothing really replaces purpose built heated riding gear. (Check the snowmobile shops. It's cheaper alot of times)

    • @houjous5131
      @houjous5131 Рік тому

      @kelton Wright. Save your money. Do layers right. I suggest because I use them tsla compression thermal shirt w/ Hoodie. A neck gator (windproof). Any fall season jacket that fits under your motorcycle jacket. After the motorcycle jacket put on either a leather jacket or insolated windproof/waterproof jacket.
      Pants the same. I do rain pants over motorcycle jeans over thermals. Socks 1 dress nylon sock 1 merino wool sock.
      For hands I did go electric. I run the Merlin Minworth Heated Gloves from revzilla w/ a extra thermal liner... eventually I'll get heated Grips too. So far I've done highway speeds in 20°F (-6°c ) comfortably.

      So as a big fan of proper layering, I will also play the other side and say, I don't think I could do a heated base layer. The insurance of having heated gear does make me feel better. In all truth, even down to some of the stupid low temperatures I've ridden down to, I've worn the heated gear, plugged it in, never needed to turn it on because bi was dressed for it. But the heat is there if I need it. When the weather gets colder than you're willing to be in, you at least can get home.

    I think the Gerbings run on the larger side because it's more comfortable to have some kind of layer between the heated gear and your body. I have the heated jacket liner and it helps to have a long sleeve t-shirt or sweatshirt underneath to better distribute the heat from the microwires.

    My Lady will appreciate the Ladies section products as I move her from passenger to fellow rider. Our (my) only difficulty is with cardo- I am deaf in my right ear and their system keeps cutting out while we ride and I cannot hear my Lady. cardo customer service used the horrible covid excuse for not getting back to me quickly then they insulted me with their excuse filled trouble shooting tips like I was too stupid at my age to have done already. Responsibility is huge for me when any company professes to be on top and cardo failed here!
    Thank You young Lady for your cold gear tips, my Lady stops riding with me long before the snow flies because of cold even though her Goldwing chariot has heated seats.
    I ride year round here in Iowa and all over with just Hot Hands on top of my hands inside my gloves, heat needs to be where the blood flows and heated grips and so much gear fails to consider this.

    FYI on chain lubing (from a rider that started in the 80's and became a certified mechanic in '99), if you're running an o-ring style (X/W/whatever shape ring), the only thing you need, or want, to do is condition the o-rings. You don't want a bunch of gunk on the chain, it'll just act like a dirt magnet, which then works like an abrasive paste to eat through those o-rings and accelerate wear on the chain and sprockets. If you're meticulous and want a clean bike, that means just putting a drop, one single drop, of whatever flavor chain lube you like most on each o-ring. There shouldn't be anything to wipe off when done like this. I like a much more liquid lube and personally use Super Lube 56204 (4oz bottle lasts YEARS)
    If you want "easy" and don't really care about clean, then an oiler ~ either automatic or manual ~ is the best solution. $20 for a manual chinesium oiler up to $120 for a Scottoiler (premium brand name) automatic system with a bunch of options between.
    If you're running a non o-ring chain, you STILL don't want to spray the side plates themselves, you're still looking to lube Just the end links where the chain pivots... you don't really see much real world application for these chains outside of racing (o-rings steal a little power).

    I would say colored visor is not that great for most riders. It ends up that you ride with out eye protection when it is suddenly dark. Most people cant see anything, with that on. And why not get a helmet with extra sun-visor in the helmet. That is super great, and many helmets have that. I use the SHOEI Neotec 2. That is an good helmet, if it fits you head.
    Remember people have different shapes and size of head. Just testing a helmet some minutes in a store, will not tell you if it fits you or not.
    You have to use it riding for 2 + hours, That is when you find out if it really fit you or not. And it can start to hurt your head, pressure points and get head aches. So it is best to find a store with someone that know about this things.
    Even worse is if you helmet is to big. Then you have to buy a new on, at once. That is like riding a bike with out a helmet on. If you crash it will just fall off, and not protect you at all.

    Ah yes. Removing leathers. I remember back when I still rode with full leathers before I converted to textile. First time I went to try and remove them without a base layer on. I was all like "well I guess I'm just going to spend the rest of my life with this suit on."
    If you wind up enjoying colder rides, heated grips will change your life. They make ones that just tie on to the grips so you don't need to keep them on year round.

I should mention that I wear an open face dirt helmet at the moment (came from dirt; been on the road for a few months), and that’s about when I start to not be able to feel it after a minute of riding. I bet I’ll be able to go a bit lower with a face shield and a solution for hands.

    Best looking/safest gear on the market is all made by Dainese. I ride Dainese only, for my jackets, my DAir airbag vest, and my DAir Misano 2 leathers.
    I can understand the bluetooth but to me, any type of electronics other that whats on the bike, is a distraction, you want all your senses sharp, especially on the road where its most dangerous already. I ride my bike so that work calls wont annoy me, and the sound of my exhaust is music to my ears enough.
