Last year I bought the Crafted in China version of this Tele. It has alder body and rosewood fingerboard so I think it is an even better purchase if you can find it on the used market. I already swapped the bridge to a Wilkinson with compensated brass saddles and the pickguard to an Allparts 1ply in black. Next will be the 4way mod and just to try it out I plan to modify the stock neck pickup. There are plenty of ways to mod this beauty and to make it your own.
I'm another who got a CV Tele (pine 50s in white) with the intent to swap out the neck pickup, but decided to keep it as is. I found I like it too much to do that. I did tighten the output jack about ten years ago, and it's stayed put so far. The four way switch mod is intriguing, though.
Yep! I got one and only the neck and body remain. Pickups are a set of Lambertone Blondies, controlled by a 920D Customs 4-Way switch and electronics. Bridge is a Babicz full contact model, opped off with creamy-smooth, GraphTech ratio tuners. It's a bit of a sleeper, buit it is a BEAST! I love my modded CV Tele!
I have the classic vibe tele in white blond. It's my number 1. All I've done is put skull knobs on it. Thinking of upgrading pickups but at the same time it does sound good
i have the same one and it's great, the b string keeps slipping though and the guitar can't hold tune very well, probably just need to restring it though because the people who strung it in the factory might not have done a great job
I was going to sell this guitar to someone on Offer Up. Then, I went to play it and forgot how sweet this guitar plays. After watching this video, no frigging way am I selling this guitar. The action was awesome right out of the box. It plays like butter. The only thing I did to the guitar was oil the neck.

I just saw Chicago Music Exchange is coming out with a Classic Vibe 60’s in Olive Green. I know you use to drive a Wrangler, how cool would it be to mod one of these with a Jeep/Willys motif? I’ve sold Chryslers for 43 years, Jeeps for 25 years.
I’m convinced that if you’re just buying a guitar for modding your money is at least best spent on a Warmoth or similar quality neck. The body doesn’t matter. Even (and especially) the Wilkinson Tele kit Stew Mac sells is a better starting platform.
I've owned both the older Chinese version of this guitar and the new one made in Indonesia. To my surprise the Indonesian one was better. It sounded and played better and it had the most amazing fretwork I've ever seen on an Asian made guitar.
I agree.Every Indonesian Squier I have played, including the ones I own, Are made really well. Jack Pearson uses them professionally. That’s good enough for me!
Build quality wise the Indonesian guitars are great. Personally I prefer the sound of the pickups on the Chinese CV models, but in the end that is about personal preference.
I have that guitar, but it’s the made in China model from 2012. Alder body and laurel fretboard. I put on some cheap compensated brass saddles , an Obsidian Wire 4-way harness and plug, and new knobs (the original were plastic). I had planned to change the pickups, but they sound really good with all the new wiring. They’re some kind of alnicos. It’s a great guitar. I have other Teles. I’d probably do the pickups if it were my only Tele, but it’s great as is now. The new harness made a gigantic difference. People that don’t know guitars think it’s my nicest guitar, as in classiest and poshest. Lol.
The Chinese models have pickups made in the Tonerider factory. They do indeed sound as good as many aftermarket pickups. The Indonesian models don't sound as good in my opinion, but still great modding platforms.
I have a Squier 60s Classic Vibe Telecaster 3 color sunburst and double binding on the body with a rose wood neck. The only thing I didn't like about it was the pickups. So I bought a set of Fender 60's pickups to put in it. I'll be doing that soon.
I got one of those beauties ~4 years ago, and love it. I put in a set of compensated brass sadles, a killswitch, and a 4 way Baja switch. Really easy for my first foray into modding and it sounds great(I like the neck pickup tbh)
I've always liked Telecasters the most of all the single coil guitars. I'm actually considering replacing my cheapo tele (was about €80 new) that I've put over half its price in upgrades in with something better, and I really want it to be a thinline. The problem is: the only thinline telecasters available for me are either the €2000+ Fenders (nothing available until American original), or custom building from Warmoth. Although I really like the idea of the latter, it's way too expensive for me as of right now. Just a couple days ago I discovered that there actually is a squier CV thinline, and I might just end up going for that and upgrading the electronics and pickups to get me a great thinline for less than half the price of custom building. Thanks for the tips on what to start working on, I'll keep in mind that I don't really need to change out the tuners - something that was definitely required for the previous Tele.
i have one, it’s not bad but i wouldn’t get another. the pickups are kinda shrill and either wayyy too dark are way to bright. and the neck is very thin and cramps my hands
Great guitars, I put noiseless pickups in mine. After a setup and string change and I changed out the saddles to brass, it's actually the best squier I own. Very cool guitar at 2/3 the price of a player series. Which a mate owns and still did a few upgrades.
that's a Squier that does NOT need modding, imo. All I'd change are the pots, switch and jack plate; that's it. The Affinity range Squiers are way better value to buy as platforms for modding/upgrading imo. I'd buy the CV to keep mostly as it is, and the Affinity to generally upgrade. I don't like vintage style Tele bridges anyway.
The Chinese version (made in the Grand Reward factory) had better pickups (made in the same factory that makes Tonerider pickups). This is the Indonesian version, and there has been some changes (at least the body wood and the pickups are different). The pickups in the Indo version aren't "bad" bad, but they're pretty uninspiring, and an upgrade will definitely improve it.
I’ll watch this series with great interest, as I’ve recently purchased a CV 60s Custom Tele in metallic green (Anderson’s exclusive). I’ve already swapped out the bridge for a Wilkinson’s adjustable 3-barrel brass saddle. I’m planning to replace the electronics with the Fishman Fluence Greg Kock set, but I’m curious to see what you do. Keep up the good work!
Would be curious to see a comparison of how the bridge pickup tone changes with no baseplate, as well as different types and thicknesses of base plates.

i bought one over ten years ago. The neck pickup on mine seems ok. maybe Fender changed the pickup they use or maybe they vary greatly. the bridge pickup failed (my fault) so installaed sd little 59 in the bridge. its great for rock n roll. i want to replace the chrome saddles with brass thats the only improvement needed imo.

@@ilmisxx2 well noiseless pickups are just stacked humbuckers and I really want a “pure” tele. Otherwise when the whole band is playing, I could switch to neck or bridge when the hum wouldn’t be as noticeable. I just need the rwrp for when it’s quiet and I’m the only one playing.

@@flyguyty33 well if we are searching for specific tone then the amp and speakers we use are a way more important contributor than the pickups or even a guitar we are using :) Of course there's nothing wrong with any of that but I feel there is so much misinformation and 'legends' spread by corksniffers that it's really difficult to filter out real information for someone seeking for it :)
Would love to see a tension test like the top-wrapped stop bar from a couple years ago too. Wondering if the shorter distance from string ends to saddles reduces tension on this platform as well.
Hi Dylan, just purchased this model after your advice and I absolutely love it! I had an American Pro II Tele, and really impressed with the quality for the fraction of what I paid for the other Tele. Just one quick thing - seems the tuners are overly sensitive making difficult to tune, but I'm wondering if the bone nut might be snagging the strings?
Better yet, buy a used first gen Classic Vibe Custom. Alder body (not cheap nyatoh), rosewood board (not dry, nasty laurel), and Tonerider pickups. Kicks ass with no mods needed. A shame that Fender downgraded the CV line.
Well it may be good for modding, but it’s still gonna be a high 8 or 9 pound tele. My teles are low 6 to high 5. I have yet to see a light one, and have looked for a while now.
I don't buy your take on tuning machines. I love the two pin tuners and if an upgrade to locking tuners is desired then the locking tuners from Fender are a bolt on since they are two pin also. I do prefer the 4 screw bridge as Fender makes a direct replacement with individual saddles for about the same price as new aftermarket compensated saddles.
I wouldn't say that anything about these classic vibe guitars are bad, obviously you are buying a budget guitar so have to set your bar a little lower, for example you won't find a set of £200 pickup and £100+ tuners on a £350 or so guitar (though my Cort L500-o for £400 did have a set of Waverly tuners on)
I disagree. imo, the CV range Squiers are still good value and shouldn't need much upgrading/modding for a good affordable guitar. The Mexican Teles are overpriced imo. I know which I'd prefer to get and upgrade: the Squier CV. I'm in the UK btw, where MIM cost x 2 x or more the cost of Squier CV.
@@Iggytommy MIMs are way overpriced, agree totally, but the Squier CVs at 400€ are on the same wavelenght, upgrades? So you'll spend what...200 more and have more or less the same guitar? 😂 Good luck!
@@vanshankguitars thanks for info. Here, in UK, a Squier CV Tele is £340, a MIM Player Tele is £570+, a MIM Vintera Tele is £730, MIM Player Plus is £830+, an American Performer Tele is £1,050, and an American Professional II is £1,550. (1 Can$ = £0.59)
Not worth it, You can make a parts caster that is worth more than the squier will ever be worth, You can always buy the MIM Deluxe Body for $240 on sale and then buy the Deluxe neck, and now you can do alot of whatever you want.
@@DylanTalksTone I mean you can, and you can do it for shits and giggles, or also in the name of stupidity, I even went down that route a couple times but I will tell you ..not worth it, its an el cheapo chinese guitar, your time and money to waste. @@DylanTalksTone To many no, otherwise the industry prices wouldn't be as inflated as it is. I thought 1960s Teles had Rosewood fretboards? except maybe very late 1960s? was maple not basically custom order only in 1960s?
Well it may be good for modding, but it’s still gonna be a high 8 or 9 pound tele.
My teles are low 6 to high 5.
I have yet to see a light one, and have looked for a while now.
Cool shirt!
I bought exactly the same guitar two weeks ago
I'd like one of these fitted with a wilkinson trem
Those NATO bodies can be lightweight like swamp Ash. Also the truss rod adjustment is at the headstock.
I'm surprised how good this thing looks for how cheap it is
I'd go so far as to say it's the best telecaster to Not mod 😁
Did you get the Schector MGK yet??
NO! still. Back ordered 😒
@@DylanTalksTone ....... damn. 🙁
The wood doesn't matter, as long as the body is light and the neck is straight and level.
I wouldn't say that anything about these classic vibe guitars are bad, obviously you are buying a budget guitar so have to set your bar a little lower, for example you won't find a set of £200 pickup and £100+ tuners on a £350 or so guitar (though my Cort L500-o for £400 did have a set of Waverly tuners on)
By the time we are done with mods it's just as expensive -if not more- than a decent upgraded model....I would think.
Listed as synthetic 🦴 nut - body; Nato - Laurel fret board
I have a 2019 Butterscotch that weighs 10 lbs.
Kind of a bigger guy. The slim sixties taper was causing cramps and pain in my left hand...sold it. It was fun to play otherwise.
Do Nashville mod on it.
This is a better model to Mod -- Donner DJC-1000S 39 Inch Jazz Thinline
I think you'll find there's no reason to replace that switch also
Those NATO bodies can be lightweight like swamp Ash. And the truss rod adjustment is at the headstock.
You'll end up spending more than the guitar price (wich is totally too high anyway) and still have an half baked instrument.
I disagree. imo, the CV range Squiers are still good value and shouldn't need much upgrading/modding for a good affordable guitar.
@@Iggytommy here in Canada, the Player series telecaster mim is only 250$ more than this Squier CV 60s
(1 Can$ = £0.59)
Just recently bought the CV and a Player series. I kept the CV and sent the Player back
Great but you have to change pickups…don’t understand what makes a great guitar for you….anyway …
Anyone who complains about a Tele video just needs to go sit in the corner and think about what a dummy they are😆
Not worth it, You can make a parts caster that is worth more than the squier will ever be worth, You can always buy the MIM Deluxe Body for $240 on sale and then buy the Deluxe neck, and now you can do alot of whatever you want.
I can do whatever I want anyway…
@@DylanTalksTone I mean you can, and you can do it for shits and giggles, or also in the name of stupidity, I even went down that route a couple times but I will tell you ..not worth it, its an el cheapo chinese guitar, your time and money to waste. I was told the same thing and learned the hard way.
Wait…. So if I buy a guitar I like, mod it the way I want it, play it, and enjoy it, it’s a waste of time? Isnt that what the hobby is all about?
@@DylanTalksTone To many no, otherwise the industry prices wouldn't be as inflated as it is.
From a value perspective, yes its kind of pointless and a waste of time when you could have just bought a better guitar from the start - I did say "for shits and giggles" and you probably qualify more under that bracket, but yes buying a cheap chinese squier and upgrading it to try for it to be a better guitar is pointless rather than just buying what you wanted in the first place.
I am speaking objectively, you state you like it which means you are speaking from a more jaded stance. Either way, you do you, I believe is what they say now.
@@DylanTalksTone the most important thing is that the instrument becomes an ideal component that takes your performance level beyond your expectations with as few limitations as possible regardless of cost
Less is more cost wise and if the cheaper instrument outperforms the custom shop one that's a win
many times the ones that you spend time working on create a "bonding effect" other times you'll find one that's perfect right out of the box
Fishman Fluence pickups... that's all.
We will be using our pickups, but I definitely back that… those gristle tone pickups are AWESOME
21 frets.... 😢
The body is made from Nato. And I guess this a pancake body
Pancake? It’s a solid body
By 2:00 I'd had enough of the pointless waffling. Thumbs down.
Definitely change the neck to one that says Fender on it whahaha sheeeeit jk!
Fist thing to mod would be body and headstock shape... muahaha.
this is why Fender and Squier should make way more hardtail Strats.
Nato is the body.. Now made in Indonesia .
Did you ever end up selling this thing?
