Yes I agree, rivers seem a more calm way of travelling. Gloucester looks really old. How cool to find the shop behind Beatrix Potter's book. Such a wonderful vlog. Zephyr is very clever. What a stick. Zephyr sure loves being out with you on your adventures.

The comb antenna on the Cardinal Beetle was amazing. You get such clear focus with your shots.
That is the first time that I’ve seen a black-headed cardinal beetle, I’ve only every seen the red cardinal beetles before and the sheer size and brightness of it blew me away! Another day to remember. Brings back memories from when we purchased Spook seven years ago when she was a little further south on the Sharpness. So we then travelled through Gloucester going north to Stourport. Happy days indeed. Cheers and Happy landings.

Beautiful Black-headed Cardinal Beetle that was sunning itself upon the Dog Rose. Zephyr meanwhile seemed happy as a clam with her enormous stick as she pranced back and forth across the bridge. Finding the Tailor of Gloucester Shop that inspired Beatrix Potter was certainly a treat! Enjoy reading the "Tailor of Gloucester." Jenny 🪲🐞🦋🐇

I am on holiday in the Loire Valley in France but I still remembered to look out for your vlog. I truly enjoyed your dog with the stick and also with him looking up at you waiting for your next move.. My dog was put down last week. He was 14 1/2 yrs old. He was very very sick and the pain med was not working. Dogs wait on us with tender loving eyes.

Another superb vlog Vanessa. This one took me back 40 years, when I attended the Fire Service College at Morton in Marsh.
I was on a Fire Prevention Course studying Building Regs and everything related to Means of Escape and Fire Safety.
We were taken to Gloucester Docks and tasked with surveying one of those large dockside warehouses and coming up with Fire Safety solutions to enable the building to comply with Fire Regs at that time.
It was a very complex situation because the building was listed and therefore had to comply with those regulations as well.
I love your descriptive presentation. I am sure it was far more interesting than mine. ❤

When Our Twins were just two - Round About '86 - One of them was obsessed with the Peter Rabbit Stories - We had the Two-Box Set - and every evening when I got home from work He would get up onto the kitchen worktop and get Me to read Him one of the books 'before' I went for my bath - (A Plasterer, so a bit dusty) - As you know - SOME of those books are pretty Looong - The things you do EH?? 😄

I remember when I was a kid I had 4 of 5 of the little books by Beatrix Potter but The Tailor of Gloucester was not one of them I was cool to see where she wrote that book once again your close up video of the bug was perfect as was your drawing and poem. How lovely to visit The Tailor of Gloucester shop. My husband’s uncle worked and was friends with Leslie Linder when they were both at The National Physics Laboratory in the days of the Comet investigation and who wrote the preface to Leslie’s biography of BP. Such a special treat and just as it ought to be.

It’s so lovely the way you flick through your poetry and illustrations with the gentle music in the background. It reminds me of a TV series in the early 80s called the Diary’s of an Edwardian lady I think it was called? The lady would paint in watercolours and I seem to recall there was some poetry and beautiful music too.
What a wonderful life it must be living on a canal boat, I suppose it’s hard at times. I have a couple of friends who both have narrow boats with their partners. The are moored somewhere around Nantwich area they keep telling me to do it, I do t think I could give up my house and being close to 2 of my grandchildren. But good for you xxx
Thank you for your lovely comment. I only came across Edith Holden when a friend and my mother-in-law said the same to me as you just have about a year ago. Since then, I have bought all of her books and read her biography and I greatly admire her work. I tried to find out more about her when I was travelling through where she lived- these are my January vlogs of this year.
Narrowboat life has its ups and downs like anything in life, but if you want it badly enough, you will find the ups far outweigh the downs. Your grandchildren would probably love to visit you on your boat. This aside, if you rather like your house, then you have more to lose, so follow your heart.

Oh ! That fire engine red beetle was simply amazing, it really stole the whole show ! I loved seeing the shop which inspired Beatrix Potter to write, The Tailor from Gloucester. I wrote a few years ago, a short story to help an old friend who was truly hurting. The story conceived in my mind while aboard a regional jet from California to Arizona, envisioned animal characters one would find in an English Garden, and was very much rooted in images remembered, from reading Beatrix Potter books to my children. I absolutely loved this one Vanessa, thank you.
Oh Michael, you sound just like Beatrix as she started writing to those in need and her Peter Rabbit story was first written for a sick child. That's how it all began for her. The nature reserve is a natural flood plain and often floods in the winter from the River Severn, it can be quite weird driving through the middle of it with deep water both sides. The cathedral is gorgeous to visit and Harry Potter was filmed in parts of it with students from Kings College.

Last time I went to Gloucester docks they were filming 'Alice through the looking Glass' so there were loads of tall ships there and they had dressed the surrounding area for filming, it was rather cool.

Many memories in that - I think you passed my old boat on leaving Worcester although it has been renamed Charly from the original Rafiki. Did you continue along the lane past the Tailors Shop and see the magnificent Gloucester Cathedral ? Gloucester is Englands most inland port and home to Tommy Neilsen's shipyard where many of the Tall Ships are serviced. Going down the canal you will pass the Cotswold Canals Trust at Saul which is aiming to rejoin the Severn and Thames. If you stop at Sharpness marina I suggest you visit the Dockers Club for good food and interesting people - you may even find boaters who remember Roy, Carol and Rafiki !

You are right, Zephyr was not impressed with my purchase in the Beatrix Potter Shop was she? 😂🐾🐾 Most of the gulls were Herring gulls with some lesser black backed ones and there were a couple of black headed gulls when we were on the River Severn. Did you know there is a boat that go's from Gloucester docks along the sharpness canal,this boat has a plaqe on it saying it was one of the small boats that fetched troops from Dunkirk in 1940.

We certainly do. Moored mostly in Kingsbromley marina. We have KIngfisher. dreadful Canada geese, struggling swans, afew Cormorants together with visitors, When we arrived years ago at this time of year we were unable to count the Swallows / Swifts, but each year they have decreased until this year after a breeding we have about twenry birds!! As a 73 year old i recall years ago my car windscreen at this time of year coverd every evening in dead bugs, No more. Thats why we have no birds. However the farmers are fine with their various grants 🤔
I am so glad to hear that your swift and swallow numbers are slightly up this year. I'm not sure if you are on Twitter, but I tweet a lot of petitions that are environment- related and one of them recently was on banning pesticides. They only take a minute to sign. When I said "goodbye falcons" I was referring to the peregrines on Worcester Cathedral that I had filmed in the vlog the week before as we were looking back to the cathedral as we left. I am not an expert by any means and I make lots of mistakes, but I do know a cormorant from a Peregrine when I see one- just about!😂👍 Have a super rest of the week, take care🌻🦋
