THANK YOU. What a wonderful, understandable, coherant way of explaining what a LUT is. It's so refreshing to watch a vidoe that gets right to the point, completely explains the promised answers and does it with clarity. I can't wait to see the other videos you have created.

This was explained so well. LOL. I care much more about this subject than I should after hearing this explanation. For real tho, this explanation really sparked my curiosity about this subject, and I didn't really believe that was possible. Good work. Good teaching.

Fantastic. Thank you! I'm so glad you pulled it all together with the grid explanation at the end. I was trying to figure this part out with the Canon LUT naming convention.

So good interpolation algorithms can bring more accuracy to the result when the LUTs resolution isn't that high.

Thanks for the video! I often make LUTs in Resolve for Premiere Pro. Should I be making 33 point, or 65 point LUTs for Premiere? If 65 is offering better quality and less banding, is there any reason to make a 33 point LUT? Thanks!

if the colors in between are calculated it means that different bit depths are no problem bcs it can calculate all the possible colors in between the nodes? So no quality loss when using 3d lut on a 16 bit image?
Or is there a border at like 12 bits or 14 bits where the lut is not able to find the accurate exact color and instead go to the next 8bit or 10 bit color which is close to the actual one?

Thanks for explanation, it was very useful . In my case 1D LUT used , for converting HDR video to SDR on SoC platform. And I'm still can't get why exactly N point of LUT is used.
It's because of precise of interpolation?

Beautifully produced video, and great explanation. I guess viewers have an understand of lookup tables, however, the only reason I am looking at this is because I am investigating 3DTV (how retro!). If my understanding is correct, LUT is used for colour (contrast, brightness etc), and has absolutely nothing to do with 3D. Currys (.co.uk) have an article "Is 3D TV still a thing?" in which they say that "Most new high-end TVs still have it. Though they’re no longer branded 3D TVs. They’re 4K UHD TVs or OLED TVs that include 3D as one of their myriad features." ...so, I am looking at TV specs, and don't see 3D as a feature, but come across 3D LUT ... maybe people appreciate lookup tables as a feature, but I find this terminology confusing (and generally unnecessary for a consumer).
