he auditioned to be a call-on pianist for London Symphony Orchestra, and he got several call backs. He didnt make it in the end, but the fact that he got any call backs at all proves he is utterly amazing. besides, if he decided to do work with LSO, we wouldnt have an Absolution or BHaR album.
Translation of every word he said (mostly, keep in mind that we do not know what the other person is saying who is speaking to Matt - "The First one was good... uh ah, the one after the end... You can keep all these x's (??)... what's that?... What do you mean like, you come in here or.... erm, I'd like to stay in here... Erm, I think you should come in here and here the sound quality..." And after that, he just talks about some technical things about the recording..
That's Matt's charm ! Talks, but few people understand what is he saying, but thanks for "translating words".I ,need it.Though,he compensate by his huge musical skills.20" of piano = 1' of talking.Or more !
i love it when Matt finishs playing the piano and then looks at the camera! he has the cutest expression right there! every time i watch it ..i laugh at his adorableness! Love you matty!
He's so talented. That last bit he plays right at the end, I wish whoever filmed it carried on I would of loved to have heard it all! I love him so much Gaia is so damn lucky, i'd give anything to have Matt Bellamy love me! .x.
so the end was la campanella, but what is the hurricane and butterflies beginning part from? or did he compose that from scratch, because it seems really rachmaninoff-ish
Im pretty sure this is written by Bellamy in the style of Rachmaninoff. At least I don't recognize it from any Rach work. How ever if Im wrong tell me where it is from, and the exact timestamp for where it is in the concert..
Beautiful... both the song and Matt x) He's such an incredible pianist (and singer, for that matter... and guitarist... and songwriter...). And I love his hair!
He has been playing since he was a boy. He has been known to interpret some Beethoven and Chopin pieces into some songs. One of the tracks Muse has made, he did 'Moonlight Sonata' but an Octave higher I believe. Sounds very well!
La Campanella is usually played (at least the versions I’ve heard) with a view on total destruction of the keys - la Campanella goes fucking *hard*.... but I really like his softer approach and I wish more people played it that way..., would be interesting to know if he kept playing it that way or if he eventually attacked it the way it seems everyone else does.
This is the Paganini-Liszt Campanella. For one, it is on the piano, the other arrangement is for violin. I think the reason that we don't hear the whole thing is because Matt can't play the really complex concert pianist middle section. He's learning classical piano as we speak though, so maybe we'll get a whole performance at the Albert Hall, V Festival or Ireland?
@BenMcCormack91 Absolutely correct. La Campanella is the nickname of the 3d piece of Lizst's adaptation of some of Paganini's violin concerts. Named the Grandes études de Paganini.
@bahuka91 La Campanella is a piece of Romantic piano music. They're a bunch of etudes for piano by Franz Liszt. If memory serves, Liszt wrote them all based on themes by another composer named Niccolo Paganini. I haven't spent much time with Liszt, though, so I can't remember off the top of my head.
it is butterflies and hurricanes at the beggining and it is sometimes called matts concerto but piano thing is completely differnt (one of the b-sides) but none the less both essential lisetening!!!
i believe this was part of the studio recording of butterflies and hurricanes, then he was talking to the producer or the rest of the band from 0:18 onwards. Then he asked them to do something, then started to fiddle around with the piano
The first part he played was the end to the solo of Butterflies and Hurricanes. After he finishes speaking, he played the first part to Liszt's "La Campanella". How could you NOT know this?
He's absolutely amazing! It doesn't matter whether or not this is the real La Campanella, of course he can't play as well as a classical composer, he is mostly self taught as far as I've known, and he didn't play it for several years, at least not very much. I think it is great, you don't hear much piano music in rock which is so heavily influenced by classical works as Muse's is. Matt Bellamy is very talented.
I'm not sure why your comment was voted down. it's definitely not the real La Campanella -- it's a very simplified version of it, and slowed down. He's still a very excellent pianist as far as pop musicians go, and it's neat how he uses a lot of classical influence in his music.
On pages 3, 4, and 5 of these comments... Why does everyone just.. criticise his piano playing? I think he is a God, personally. Listen to any of their songs, Apocalypse Please, Butterflies and Hurricanes,Sunburn, I could go on forever, if you think otherwise. Some people are so
I didnt say that at all! i said people who usually insult other peoples musical ability usually have none themselves. And Matt's piano is such a small part of the whole package. He wrote almost all of their songs, his voice is unique, and he can play some pretty wicked guitar. And i am from Australia, so Hobo is probably more true than you think :P
Aaarg, he's playing la campanella a bit slow, but I'd really want to hear him play the entire piece. It's so freakin' difficult guys! But Matthew really is the piano Master! He's proven that an infinity number of times to us! :-)
No, it isn't. I was responding to someone up above. Since Matt is playing the piano it brought up the discussion of a pianist. I know I should keep the discussion on Muse/Matt because they are amazing. :)
@kevindesmetz that's not exogenesis, listen to another la campanella and you'll hear it. plus, i don't think he had exogenesis ready the time this video was made.
@sparkish808 I'm definitely going to the Sacramento show, which is pretty much in 9 days. Are you going to that one? I'm ready to have my mind blown by Muse again. And I have class the next day=D Anyways I would have loved to have seen the whole video of Matt playing La Campanella. Sounded so beautiful.
True, the few notes he plays here are much more simple than the actual Campanella. That being said, considering his skills when he just improvises on stage, I'm pretty sure he can also play the real one ^^
matt bellamy will go down in history as a freakin genius other einaudi songs? if you just search them on youtube there will be some good ones (ombre, tracce and primavera are good)
@Lucsia95 ennek örülök és én is teljesen egyetértek veled. Jó párosítás: Liszt és Matt. :) Unfortunately we can't hear so much of "la campanella", but it's wonderful. Just like Matt Bellamy.
0_o I looked it up and it sounds the same! ...maybe we are both thinking of different ones...although I'm not sure how that's happened...lol how many are there? :P Sorry, I know its B & H, but I wanted to know if it is sampled from another composer, or was it just composed by Matt?
You're right in saying that we'll never know, but the evidence suggests that he can't; we have never seen him play such technically demanded pieces, he's self-taught and have developed a technique which would allow him is very unlikely (despite the fact that, let's be honest he's a musical God :P). He's learning classical piano at the moment (which suggests he's get some very high quality lessons), so maybe we'll here a nice Fantastia Impromptu come the Ireland Gigs? Let's hope so! :D
he auditioned to be a call-on pianist for London Symphony Orchestra, and he got several call backs. He didnt make it in the end, but the fact that he got any call backs at all proves he is utterly amazing. besides, if he decided to do work with LSO, we wouldnt have an Absolution or BHaR album.
and origin of symmetry
Before Muse broke out big or after he was already a star?
@@Atlas65 Neither, it's not true
He has stated that he can't read music.

I'm proud of you-
That's Matt's charm ! Talks, but few people understand what is he saying, but thanks for "translating words".I ,need it.Though,he compensate by his huge musical skills.20" of piano = 1' of talking.Or more !
GOD MASTER!!!
Wow... I listened to someone else playing this song, and it was beautiful, but this is... wow. Every melody he touches becomes something spectacular.
i love it when Matt finishs playing the piano and then looks at the camera! he has the cutest expression right there! every time i watch it ..i laugh at his adorableness! Love you matty!

This is not the original "La Campanella", but this version is beautiful!
so the end was la campanella, but what is the hurricane and butterflies beginning part from? or did he compose that from scratch, because it seems really rachmaninoff-ish
papa spil It's Rachmaninov
Quoting part of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no 2
Im pretty sure this is written by Bellamy in the style of Rachmaninoff. At least I don't recognize it from any Rach work. How ever if Im wrong tell me where it is from, and the exact timestamp for where it is in the concert..
@@Atlas65 Yeah I agree. It sounds similar to parts of the cadenza in Rachmaninoff’s 3rd concerto, 1st movement.
Beautiful... both the song and Matt x) He's such an incredible pianist (and singer, for that matter... and guitarist... and songwriter...). And I love his hair!

Holy Crap!!! Listen to that room!! Gorgeous.

I want to hear the rest of la campanella :'( the start he plays sounds so good!
I love at the end when he says... "ehhh I'd rather stay in here. " :)
you know one weird thing?
he barely turns his neck, even when he'd need to. he only turns his eyes or his torso.
I absolutely adore this man...!
BEAUTIFUL.
0:12 Matt sees your soul

Just like Professional Pianist!
P.S. Steinway, I love it!
love the face he pulls at the start
I'm Hungarian, and Liszt has been. I am proud of this. I love Muse and I'm even prouder of this. :)
well
that was
impeccable
im going to go try and learn la campanella now.

The song at the end is la campanella by Liszt :)
i love this man!!!!!!!
Matt isone of those guys who is so good at an instrument that it makes you want to stop playing it cause you know you'll never be as good as him.
As much as I try I cannot understand a word he says!!! But i cant stop watching it because of his beautiful accent :)
yeah. great piece
@vampiwerbowy absolutely!! A modern day mozart
The first part he played was the end to the solo of Butterflies and Hurricanes. After he finishes speaking, he played the first part to Liszt's "La Campanella". How could you NOT know this?
Same here!
Damn you Matt!
Man I cant wait to see them in Los Angeles or San Diego in September 2010!!
Gee i can't wait too
o love that little look he gives the cam at 0:12

@twimatt this video came out in 2006... there's a bit of a time problem with that considering when exogenesis came out...
His kooky giggle right at the start! hahahaha....Strange boy
wow he's good! it incourages me to keep practicing piano yay
10 years later.. Still practicing? ;)

The complete video? :(
Great

@GiangioBangio
English is my third language and YET, I can still manage to conjugate my verbs properly.
I want more! Why the video stops there!?

i would love to see him playing le onde, my fav piano piece rawr
i wish i was that piano..
I wish this video went on longer. I think it's better when its played slower.
God bless yours fingers
@Anonymous1092387456 BUT it had been "rumored" (by himsefl) that he made exogenesis around this time but that it didn´t fit on BHAR album.
Yeah me too !
@Dennon88 I said it's like a rensition of moonlight sonata...the resistance album track 11.
@sparkish808 I'm definitely going to the Sacramento show, which is pretty much in 9 days. Are you going to that one? I'm ready to have my mind blown by Muse again. And I have class the next day=D

isnt that part in butterflies and hurricanes in the middle?
BUTTERFLIES AND HURRICANES FOR THE WIN!
The very end bit is La Campanella (I love it, it's such a beautiful song =P)...but I'm not too sure about the bit at the beginning...anyone else know?
Thanks :D
I wish I carried on with this

@VFDbranch13 I agree completely.:)

@KillerHelix its a good shout... i have noticed less bananas around these days...
i bet he worked that out by ear too... good acoustics lol i want to go wherever they are!
HE IS SO FUCKING GOOD.
judging on the date of the video, which is two years ago, im guessing he's 28.
True, the few notes he plays here are much more simple than the actual Campanella.
