I just got my blue belt at the Gracie Academy and participated in their lessons. Greatest experience of my life. Everyone who lives in Torrance, CA are lucky to have that academy there.

You are lucky to live in Torrance and get the opportunity to train at the Gracie Academy. I live way closer to a Gracie Barra school and signed up with the Gracie Barra instead. You're right! Going to a Gracie school is a great experience!

And also... Kimura weighed 50 lbs more than Helio... And Rorion and Royce and the rest of the family came up wit the grandmaster name... He is a very noble man and may he R.I.P.

  • @SnareBuff

@vincespell Actually, Helio IS the founder of the Gracie Jiu Jitsu system. Carlos was taught the original Japanese Jiu Jitsu, and Helio, being a frail and weak boy, had to sit out. From this, he created his OWN system of jiu jitsu, based on leverage, speed, and technique. THAT is Gracie Jiu Jitsu.
Actually, there are VAST differences between Japanese Jiu Jitsu, and Brazilian (Gracie) Jiu Jitsu.
Lay off the caps there bub. It doesn't make you seem louder. Just makes you look like a kid.

  • @SnareBuff
    @SnareBuff 13 років тому +1

@ronki23 From my knowledge, Ju Jitsu was the art the samurai practiced, and judo became the sportive version of it. The traditional Japanese Ju Jitsu was taught to Carlos Gracie who then began teaching it. Gracie Jiu Jitsu is Helio's revamping of the old system to use technique and leverage over strength and speed.

the reason is that people can withstand punches kicks knee and elbow strikes and they an resist chokes all if well trained, but no amount of training can stop the pain much less everything else if you get a finger to the eyes or a hit to the groin u cant toughen up your balls or eyes
and sometimes thats all you can do to get out of certain situations

    sure no problem
u hardly hear of it, yes and thats the problem cause tv dosnt allow it and teachers dont teach it, and people forget but if people remember ALL the things that are at there disposal in a fight, then they would realize as i have that there is always an opposite to anything that puts u at neutral, and there is always a way out of everything no matter how bad, unless your already dead
by the way love your favorites, about to download to my computer THANK YOU

I used to think that they were dishonorable for not letting the guy go the instant they tapped but I learned over time that this was a time that people didnt want to admit they tapped because they were so supprised at the submission theirselves and wasnt sure they were defeated. They didnt recognize the technique or it came on them for so quick that they only tapped because of desperation. This desperation was well called for because they were about to be damaged.

Carlos is given His props, but He never taught the style that Helio does. His was more grounded in the original form Maeda taught. There are inovations, but those stemmed from BJJ as a whole; not necessarily the Gracies. There is a Difference between BJJ and what the Gracies Teach.
Carlos' style is still taught by the Machados, and in part, by Carlson Jr.

Its Hughes not Hughs! But its dumb to bring up Matt Hughes in this conversation because like I said, he was waaay passed his prime. Its like talking about Liddell and his last 4/5 losses. It doesnt diminish what the Iceman did, it just means that he was done with professional fighting already!

@judorican973 Judo newaza doesn't allow ankle, knee, torso, wrist or shoulder attacks-Judo only allows elbow locks and chokes. From the Japanese Ju Jitsu I do, submissions are only a part of the equation-not the be-all end-all

    1 im not a 'spammer'
2 your comment isnt marked as spam so i dont know what your talking about
3 twisting someones wrist doesnt mean all of a sudden that its gracie/brazinilan jujitsu (do you have any idea how many different martial arts have wrist locks)
4 'it must work because alot of the chokes have been implimneted in trianing the marines'
oh wow the marines use it so it must work (O_o)
1 marines also use karate & tkd
2 i doubt they ever pull guard/mount or anything else in real battle/war

@luizinho81 I'm glad you acknowledge that. So many BJJ fan boys try to say the Gracie's invented every grappling move. There's not one original move in BJJ, it all comes from judo/traditional jujitsu. I always ask them to show me a move in bjj thats not in judo or jujitsu and they can't because there aren't any.

2 that made no sense at all, u r the 1 that called me a 'spammer'
3 and your point is? if i take TKD and modded the kicks i didnt make a new style i just plagiarized TKD, the credit goes to the ORIGINAL style not the rip off

Sakuraba was one guy who showed the Cocky Gracies that they can be beaten at their own game. I love BJJ, it has changed my life in the past 5 years of training it. I am now a purple belt but BJJ is by no means perfect. Every single martial art has weaknesses. If you're going against someone who has no idea what BJJ is in the street, you'd win every time if you force him to play your game. But BJJ alone in an MMA fight won't get you anywhere TODAY.

And Modern day Rules, and Time limits work against the very core of the BJJ Fight Strategy.
    -------
Kosen Judo was on two types of Jiu-Jitsu, witht the ground portion being re-introduced after it was destroyed by Fusen Ryu Jiu-Jitsu.
The Gracies never pretended it to be otherwise. READ THE FUCKING HISTORY!!!
