    Losing Garcia/McCullers/Urquidy was tough. Playing with no Altuve+Yordan was devastating but we made it to the ALCS again.
    Pitching wasn’t there like it was last year. Montero/Stanek weren’t there like last year, Tucker/Peña weren’t there in the postseason…
    Valdez/Javier weren’t dependable like last year.
    Gotta tip the cap to Texas.
    They outplayed us.
    Wasn’t our year. We’ll be in another ALCS next season, no doubt. Tough loss.

    Astros fans are so ungrateful when it comes to Dusty Baker. The man took the Astros to the WS multiple times, that’s more than most managers can say about their careers. A lot of Astros fan forgotten just how bad the team was in the late 2000’s through the early 2010’s. Fans have been spoiled with a lot of *recent* success and they flip out when they don’t win the WS.

    • @attyrsa

      How the Astros were 10-15 years ago is irrelevant--he inherited an excellent team when he got here. The team was fantastic last year, with one of the best pitching staffs Iv'e seen in watching baseball for 60 years. I don't think Dusty could have pushed any wrong buttons last year. But this year he could and he did. And his greatest sin was not being able to figure out the serious problem--not chance or coincidence-- the Astros suddenly had at home ALL YEAR LONG.

    It was really hard to listen to Dusty making excuses about injuries and young players. Bruce Bochy lead the Rangers to a WS without deGrom, 50% of Scherzer, an unreliable bullpen, and other injuries to their team. Bochy played 3 rookies in his lineup that produced at a high level, one of them was called up on Sept 8th and batted 3rd in their lineup. Their catcher was an All-Star rookie. While Altuve and Alvarez were out, he was busy benching players like McCormick and Diaz, two of the best players on the team, top 20 OPS in baseball. He was starting players like Corey Julks and other players ahead of them. Corey Julks was in an 0-46 slump when he was finally optioned down to the minors. But Dusty was still playing him. JP France actually performed better than Garcia did last season. He was at one point the most reliable pitcher the Astros had. The Astros had the best ERA in baseball even in June. But he mismanaged the offense that wasnt giving pitchers run support and it lead to overworking the pitching staff. Dusty had resources that were available to him that he never maximized and that was the difference between the two managers in this series. All of it would eventually get exposed in the postseason where all they face is better teams, especially in the ALCS and beyond. Dusty and no other manager could ever get away with benching the best players on the team and playing inferior ones over them. What Dusty did was that he built the entire season around Maldonado and the team went down with him. He and Maldonado need to go. The organization has always advocated for player development and Dusty revealed his opinion of what he thinks of young players. It clashes with the philosophy of player development that the organization has had. A team with a good mix of veterans and rookies is great. Dusty doesn't think so. And if he called JP France and Hunter Brown young players, why were they put out there in a decisive game 7 to try to protect a 2 run lead against one of the best offenses in baseball? It only shows his inability to manage and maximize the potential of young players. It shows his inability to put them in the best position to succeed. The most compelling thing here is that the FO told Baker that they wanted Chas to start in CF and Diaz to catch. This was a season long request that Dusty continued to ignore in the postseason. He focused on trying to prove the organization wrong in spite of team results and he lost. And he actually said that Yainer, the city, and THE ORGANIZATION would thank him later for the way he handled him. No one will thank him for it for sure. It’s time for him and Maldonado to go. On to next season.

    Dusty said it very well. This is a tough game to win it all. Both teams had a 90-72 record during the regular season. If Houston wins 1 more they go to the series, if Dallas loses one more they don't! Wow! Every team seems to be getting better. As Dusty says, Dallas, Seattle, Baltimore, Minnesota, Arizona have all stepped it up a notch and perhaps Houston lost a step or two this year. Dusty said the season is a grind, and unfortunately it often comes down to a game of attrition. Those teams that stay healthy, somehow, seem to do better. When a team wins it all, they become the target of pilfering. Players heads swell a bit and teams start looking to pull away the top free agents. Look at Carrea and Springer for the Astros. There is so much parity in baseball it is difficult to dominate, and that makes the Astros run over the past 7 years even more impressive. Now if we can just figure out what the heck is going on with the home field curse of Minute Maid! My Gosh! Congrats to the Rangers! Bring it home to Texas and let's keep the FRIENDLY rivalry going. In the end it is a game and these two teams have risen to the top. Go get em Rangers! I would like to see a Rangers/Diamondbacks matchup but I have a feeling Philly is going to pull it out today. Got to love the game of baseball!

    4. with the game 4-2 he brings JP France, having Abreu, Stanek, still havung urquidy.... He allows him with 2 runs to stay in the game and then pitches Garcia with the first base open...
    5. They bat a fair ball to first base which wa sthe third out the homebase umpire reverses the call and you didn't ask for a review.. NOT EVEN GO OUT ABD PROTEST
    There he blew out two games.... And he still says that the game os though... I can't listen to all of this. Dusty had a chance to go out on top, but shockingly came back this season. Astros were pathetic at home, while performing as well as last year's championship team on the road. 40-47 at home (a horrendous dropoff from last year) is not chance or coincidence--there was a serious problem that Dusty (as the person closest to the players) couldn't figure out ALL SEASON LONG. Thanks to Dusty for his 4 seasons here--time to move on.

      The season was so bad for us because of the managing of Dusty.
      He should have made Diaz the starting catcher, end of discussion.
      We lost a good 14-15 games because of Maldonado easily.
      He also should've stopped playing Pena a long time ago, Pena hadn't hit a home run since July.
      Dubon was clearly way better, Dubon should've been the starting SS in the playoffs.
      The fact he didn't let Julks or Chas start every game at CF is insane.
      Look at what happened the game dusty gets ejected.

Most have moved on to teams that don't care. But none will make Cooperstown. It is shameful that the 2017 team got to keep the Division / AL / WS / WSMVP titles. Hurts, doesn't it LA? Bochy brought in Montgomery we brought in Hunter and JP (2 rookies), bad decision. You got 3 out of Javy Maton and Hunter and was down 4-2. Neris, Abreu JV and Pressly coulda given you the last 6. Managing game 7 like it's a regular season game. Not pinch hitting for Maldy earlier in the game with runners on. These are bad decisions especially in the playoffs. Theres no guarantees that we would come back this game, I get it, but these were bad decisions and we could have kept the game close and gave the bats a chance. France looked awful from the first batter and fell behind every hitter. There was no reason for him to be in the game when you have all hands on deck. The most important thing when trying to make a come back is keeping the game close to put pressure back on their pitching. When we let the game get blown open 8-2, it's very deflating. So stop saying a lot of things went wrong when you lose 11--4. Yes a lot went wrong but a lot of that was when the game was blown open and could have been avoided and contained if we made better decisions earlier in the game. Everything this season was more difficult than it needed to be. Appreciate Dusty taking us past the cheating scandal years and last year's World Series. It's time for new direction.
    Need a true CF (preferably Bellinger), Pena needs to fix his swing and Yainer needs to catch, and we need to trade some players with LMJ and Garcia coming back. Dubon, Chas, Jake, Urquidy should be on the trade block, maybe even JP France and Bielak (make a play for Luis Robert)

    • @emp0rizzle
      @emp0rizzle 11 місяців тому +2

      exactly. it went wrong because of his dumb decisions. he never takes responsibility for anything and blames it on bad luck or bad juju. He brought Montero out in game 6 which is basically waving the white flag sure enough 4-2 becomes 9-2. Because he wanted to have Pressly fresh for Game 7 and never even got to use him. He's a clown that is now 0-3 in game 7.

    • @Reloading20
      @Reloading20 11 місяців тому

      Not much you can do with the pitching. Javier gave you nothing. JV is 40, you can't trust him to come in and do what montgomery did. You have 2 starting pitchers in the pen to fill in at moments like this, but they couldn't pull it off. There are certainly many decisions to criticize (why was maldy hitting at all this game, why not bring in dubon for a struggling pena?) but pretending like you could have magically found a way to not give up a boatload of runs with how badly everyone was pitching is not realistic. At the end of the day the players have to show up and they didn't, save for 'tuve, breggy and yordan.
