Incredibly low baseball IQ, top to bottom from management to the players. This team is straight up stupid. From sleeping on bases, blowing through stop signs to pulling pitchers in their best game of the season, and not putting in hot hitters - this team does not make any smart moves. In all the years I've been a baseball fan and since following the Jays since '91, I don't recall ever being relieved that the season was over for a team I was a fan of. The way they run things is as if the want to kill baseball in Toronto. Clear out the khakis and the GM and get 2 bats here. I think analytics, over good scouting and experience, have ruined the in game experience. I thought Blake Snell getting pulled in a World Series game a few years ago, while pitching a gem, was the worst baseball analytics move, but pulling Berrios last night, while pitching his heart out, and was untouchable, is right up there. What is the point of having a manager, bench coach & a pitching coach, if the in game decisions are made ahead of time in a boardroom with a bunch of computer nerds.

I'm not saying it was for sure right ro take out Berrios either but its not nearly as bad as ppl think. "Having domianted first time through the order" actually is not a good predictor of how they'll do a 2nd time. Kikuchi had the 2nd lowest opponent OPS vs lefties in the entire league, Berrios doesn't do well ve lefties. It was known that Baldelli would pinch hit, so Kikuchi faced the righties, but now Jays also get Romano, Hicks and Swanson against those righties the rest of the way. There was more to it than ppl think.

  • @darkwillis416

This team needs to sit Vladdy down and tell him to grow up. He lacks focus, intensity and effort. Having fun during the season is part of the game, its a long season but when you reach the stretch and are competing for a post season spot, you turn on that switch and Vladdy has yet to show that. Atkins and Shapiro cleared out the leaders in the clubhouse to change the culture and leadership group. Its clear both Vaddy and Bo are not mature enough to lead a clubhouse. Schneider and Atkins need to go! Baseball isnt played on paper and analytics are a tool not the bible. An exoerienced and respected skipper would not have taken Berrios out no matter what the consequences. It was the wrong move not just because in hindsight, Kikuchi gave up the runs but also because it deflated any momentum and fight out of the players. Hire a real manager and a GM that trusts his eyes more than his calculator.

"He had electric stuff. It was hard to take him out." . . . "That's baseball." . . . No, that's not baseball, it's bad analytics.
The issue isn't that statistics are used, it's that they are used incorrectly. The value of statistics is their good percentage of predicted success with LARGE sample sizes. In important games, a good pitcher who is healthy, is currently pitching well coming into the game and performs well in important games is a SMALL sample size. Important games are a SMALL sample size, so you can't evaluate the performance by statistics, you have to do it by the pitcher's past experience.
Not only that, but the morale, confidence and resulting PERFORMANCE of the other teammates is also improved when they see that their ace pitcher is in a groove in a playoff game. Your team didn't hit when their ace gets pulled? Go figure.
If you have a very good pitcher who is pitching well in a playoff game, there is absolutely NO reason to remove them and every reason to leave them in until they start to fail. That's good analysis not bad analytics.

I wasn’t surprised the jays would lose considering they barely made the postseason. The team needs some serious restructuring in the off season.

  • @jeremyc3911

Ross Atkins' throwing Schneider under the bus pretty much shows you all you need to know about the Blue Jays management integrity, or lack thereof. The Jays respectability has really taken a hit since Alex Anthopoulos left. I am glad AA won a World Series since and has shown he is not just a capable GM and executive, but a keen baseball mind. Unlike these two clowns from Cleveland organization (Shapiro and Atkins). I personally don't think this was a Schneider decision alone but the fact that Atkins is sitting on the fence, neither endorsing or criticizing the Berrios decision tells me he is complicit - him and the various departments who had a hand in the decision. The fact that he let Kirk, Gurerro and Manoah get past spring training when all of them are out of shape speaks volumes to the lack of drive and quality that the Jays need. I feel bad for Berrios - he put it all on the line and throughout the year he has consistently given the Jays chances to win. It can't be put squarely on Kicuchi either as he was not a BP pitcher throughout the year. Lack of offence exacerbated an already untenable situation.

Vladdy lacks intensity and is not a leader like the front office had hoped. Take the leadership role away from him, let him focus on playing and tell him to grow up. Your tendancies and demeanor during the season carry over to the post season. Getting picked off at 2nd base during an elimination game, down by 2 runs has been his MLB career in a nutshell. Watching balls hit the wall instead of hustling to 1st and little league base running are all attitude issues. Bichette has plenty of intensity but in this series he tried to do more and it hurt the team. Schneider needs to learn how to stand up for his players anc Atkins needs to stop micro managing from the office. They both should go.

Terrible game! The Blue Jays weren't even competive in this wild card series. No one showed up offensively , bats went cold when you needed them like all year. Leaving men on base.
Sloppy plays like Vlad getting picked off on second base etc.
They didn't even allow David Schneider a chance when players are not hitting.
John is an ok manager but Toronto needs a more experienced coach with a sense of urgency. John is just a 2.0 version of Charlie. All analytics and no going with your gut feeling. Sometimes you need to just do what's right and not what analytics say.
John and the organization knew the twins had the upper hand on Gausman but they started him in the series anyway.
Guys like Vlad were a let down this season. These are the guys that should be making an impact and coming through when you need them. What a wasted year, especially that we had the pitching...
Time for a clean sweep in the organization starting from the top down to the coach..

its a great group? did you hear that everyone? what yes man John is telling you is hes been told what to say and not to go off script, if people are shallow and dumb enough to support a group and office that runs a team this way you waste your time , ive already got to see back to back world series years from the best Blue Jays teams of all time 92 93, this team cant even do basic hitting or base running, This man will say and do anything to keep his job, yes man Johnny Even the Media seems controlled , scared to ask tuff questions, WTF is going on today?

      @johnsummerhill8323 11 місяців тому

@@jamest8967 The pitching decision had virtually no effect on the game result. Did you expect them to win 0-0 ? For all we know, Berrios could have given up 3 or 4 runs. It all came down to poor hitting , two games in a row. The pitching and defence was great as usual.
