In this Geauga Firearms Academy video we take an in depth look at the most common conceal carry positions. We look at these concealed carry positions, we look at how to conceal carry and proper holster locations. Having the correct holster in conjunction with your concealed carry position it extremely important. A concealed carry holster for appendix carry is much different than a concealed carry holster for the 4 o'clock position. Not only the type of holster but also the construction and the construction material. A full kydex holster have advantages and disadvantages over other materials. Full kydex and hybrid holsters vary greatly, in the users comfort.

Daily work uniform is slacks and dress shirt. Waistband carry is not an options. Carry a Glock 43 in a Galco ankle holster with calf strap. No print.
Summer with sandals, shorts and big tshirt is a custom leather cross draw holster, no print.
Fall and winter with a coat is sometimes a Glock 22 in a shoulder holster.

Thank you for this! I had no idea how clueless I was about carrying until I actually started carrying. Couldn't find a comfortable holster, was too self aware of it jutting out - the whole nine. I'm under 6 ft. and slim and of course my first firearm was a glock 19. Basically too big for a slim guy to carry inconspicuously. That led me to this vid and led me to going to the shop and talking to the experts and trying different things, and learning a lot of things I didn't know. Nothing wrong with asking questions! Thanks again!

Great video for showing us all the different kinds of holsters out there to look at and and pick from. I've looked at a lot of holsters lately, and still this video showed me a couple of types I hadn't run across, and gave me some great pros and cons on each that I hadn't thought of. I like that he actually puts these holsters and puts guns in them so we can see exactly where they go and how they function in different positions on the body. Great job !

This video definitely gave me some things to think about. One thought is that I will probably have to go and buy some short sleeve button down shirts. My t-shirts will probably not be enough to cover the pistol. Thanks for the tips and info.

  • @switchtr3
    @switchtr3 4 роки тому +4

Great video, very informative. One thing I will disagree with though, even it the holster is all nylon, etc, you will never be able to "bend" it enough for a seatbelt buckle, table corner, a pen, or a child to press through the "fabric" and pull the trigger. It is softer than hard plastic (which isn't as smooth when sliding the gun in and out of for sure won't argue there) but not THAT soft to the point where the trigger can be pulled. It's still pretty darn thick and stiff despite not being a "hard" material. If your preference is to carry a full plastic holster that's totally understandable, but don't for a second even pretend that a nylon holster is flexible enough to allow an accidental trigger pull/discharge. If anything it's just more form fitting to your body. If you had no trigger guard you might be able to depress it enough, but in that roughly 1" space between the frame/guard you're not gonna be able to hook a table corner into it hard enough to pull the trigger, even if you fell on it with all your weight.

Kore really makes a great belt. I've never had a ratchet belt before, but thought the concept to be great. I then did some research on the various brands and found the Kore brand to be consistently rated as the highest quality in brand-to-brand comparisons. I believe those test comparisons to be true. These belts just "scream" quality. I have to say very impressed and am enjoying them immensely.

I bought one of the Urban Carry holsters that he talks about at the end of the video. I am 6'1" 230 pounds and wear a 38 pant. I can sit down and still pull the gun out. Tried it several times it still works. The only time it does not work is when you pull the belt too tight or wear too tight pants. It will still work with the pant too tight but it is harder. I don't use the Urban Carry all the time but it is handy. It all depends on what you prefer or were taught. Police and Military would prefer the 4 o'clock because that is what they use and are taught. Good video.

    • @tomabbott9653

Real pleased with the company, the holster is just ok for me but it's not their fault. I have a Ruger SR9c Talo Edition which means the slide is slightly different than a standard SR9c. When I ordered the holster I wasn't thinking about that difference so when I got it the retention wasn't the greatest. To Raw Dog's credit they sent me a new holster free of charge and let me keep the old one too even though this really wasn't their fault. I'm using the Raw Dog for the time being because when I have it on, IWB, and my belt snugged up that pistol isn't going anywhere. I'll probably look for another holster some time later on. Again, I want to stress that this was not Raw Dog's fault, they sent me a holster for an SR9c, not the Talo Edition, but they still backed up the holster as if it was their fault, so kudos to them.

Very clear message on how to conceal carry in many different ways with different materials. And great demonstration too. But I like the 4 o’clock style, looks more comfortable even if you sit, bent and raise your knee or leg and thigh high, can do a situp, can crawl flat on the ground, easy pull for quick draw, and good when climbing that doesn’t hurt uour groin or pinch your appendix when bending. How about that!👍

I don’t disagree with anything on the video, I shared it after seeing it and the highly beneficial level of info provided was a perfect sum up that I could point new ccw and everyday carry lifestyle and you hit the big examples but a lot of newcomers haven’t learned what is best fit for themselves yet. This can be a quality resource they can return to as they learn what meets their needs over time.
I agree with the comment of abdominal carry not being appendix holsters being an all around poor option for me, but I think the reason it’s so common is the same as why he likes hip placed holsters without cant so the barrel is on target faster, the appendix carry provides that rapid on target speed without as much practice drawing. Again not my style either but that’s the only distinct benefit provided by them that I can see, but I have no clue if my guess is valid or not. Probably should get more info on them myself and find out so I have a better idea if asked.
All around great content and appreciate the resource it provides!

Also a huge factor in holster selection is finding a holster that fits less common firearms, and still works great
I personally run an Astra A-100, which is effectively about a 2.5 lb Sig P226. As you can imagine, finding a good holster when every Tom, Dick, and Harry mindlessly goes for a Glock 17, M&P Shield, or Springfield XD, is not easy.
Since the A-100 is virtually identical in shape and size to a Sig P226, my odds were way better than if you went for something even more obscure. I came across a brand called "Tagua Gun Leather," and it's been working great as an IWB holster. Single piece of hardened leather folded over, pressed and cured to conform to the shape of a few similar models of Sigs, very nicely stitched with extra heavy thread, and the thread looks to have been coated with a waxy polymer to protect against fraying. The clip is about 2" wide, securely mounted, and has very strong retention (sometimes I have to struggle to get the holster off). It's so comfortable that I'll forget I'm wearing a holster with a 2.5 lb service pistol in it. The price was reasonable, too, at $45.
Anyway, I think it's important for EDC that you find an affordable holster that's very comfortable. I probably would never spend more than $50 on a Kydex sheath, as $50 is already a massive rip-off as there's like what? 25 cents worth of material, and they're mass produced by the millions? I could see dropping $100-$200 on a REALLY nice, hand crafted leather holster made from the finest leather and built to last well beyond 2 lifetimes, but when it's molded plastic? C'mon, don't be a rube.

WhiteDean45 I doubt he's against it. It's just the guns that are suitable for it are very limited. If you feel comfortable carrying in any fashion/position, as long as it's safe, it's good in my opinion. If all you can carry is a 380 in your pocket, it's much better than leaving the 45 at home that you couldn't conceal that day.

I can almost guarantee that no one can actually sit while carrying concealed with that holster, unless it is a micro 9mml or
      .380ACP!!
Anything larger would actually ride in the area of the leg where the body bends when seated!!
Then there's the whole, "Are you carrying concealed or are you just happy to see me?" question that will eventually come up!
It must have been the grandson or great grandson of the person who devised the women's high heeled shoes that came up with the Urban Carry holster! People who just like to get people to buy stuff that makes them uncomfortable.
