haha the ghost of scammers past XD great advice curtiss. for me(imo) the #1 thing about scams is: if you have to pay someone money for the promise of something incredible in return. its probably a scam.

Depends on the situation. For example, I don't know of any great graphic designers that will do custom work for you without payment upfront. HOWEVER, they should have a portfolio of work that they have previously created. People just have to use better judgement and read the contracts/terms beforehand.

Hey guys, I clearly do not have the knowledge Curtiss King has but I want to share an experience I had in case something similar happens to you. For everyone's awareness.
I have some beats up on my soundcloud with 1 tag in the intro of each one. I got an email one day from this guy saying he wanted my stems to do a remix. I was skeptical. I did my research turns out he was part of a rap group. I found their soundcloud and facebook page through googling this guy. Their beats were a similar to mine. I replied saying I don't give away my stems but I would be willing to collab. No response. I think what he was trying to do was take my stems so he could remove my tag and get a free beat. Long story short just be aware and do your research. Scams can come in all sizes
