You have me cleaning out my sewing room. I have been working on fabric for over a week. Folding yardage, cutting 2 1/2 x 2 1/2, 2 1/2 x 5 1/2, 10 x 10. Curating sets, sorting colors, separating those that inspire me. Today I did 3 cubby shelfs and pulled together all my books and patterns. I'm blaming it all on Kate. I can't stand watching her sort and not join in. I'm exhausted ! And not done yet. 😂
I cannot imagine cleaning all my drawers of stuff with people watching me and trying to explain why I’ve saved this. It also gives me many questions about the different projects that you refer to what they were along with your comments about having a shop. I would love to hear about that. Thanks for spending the afternoon with me.
My husband and I met online when I lived in the Netherlands and he lived in the USA. When I moved there/here I didn't take a lot of things. I had 3 suitcases of clothing and gifts from Holland, and a moving company brought the rest. Well......there was no need to hire a shipping container, I had packed my whole life into 15 moving boxes. My sewing machine had to come with me, and most of the boxes were filled with fabrics and yarn and other hobby stuff. There were 3 boxes of paperwork and documents and pictures. Now I live in a small home and when my family comes to visit the one extra bedroom we have needs to be emptied out! Soooo.....long story short...all my stuff resides in the garage in plastic totes with lids. God forbid if mice find a way into those totes! I can only dream of a cabinet like that, it's truly awsome. Your collection is a lot like mine....and yes..there is always a use for things. I can't tell you how many times I've saved the day for someone by having just the right thing. I always tell my husband; "I have no money, but I've got enough stuff to build an empire." He must love me a lot......😁😁
I love that story! very much! I like having a dedicated sewing space ... it was harder when the kids were small, but now I have things all over the place and I love it - hard to have your things in the garage! you need that spare bedroom as your craft room!!! xxx
It's great to be able to make a mess, leave it when you get tired and then come back to it when you are refreshed. I've moved everything out to my sun room, but by May, it will be too hot out there.
@@msjenjenp could you install a ceiling fan or one of those cooling towers in a corner? When my husband is visiting relatives overseas, I take over half a dining table with my crafts.I bought a second hand Ott Lite, so I can also move to our darker, downstair bedrooms, which are cooler. 💖
I had an unused 3 ring binder laying around. I bought pockets for it and now it stores all my "manuals" for appliances, coffee maker, vacuum, stove, dishwasher, washer and dryer. They're all in one place and are easy to find. I also put the date of purchase on front of booklet. This idea may help you stay more organized. I love watching your videos. Thanks for sharing. :)
I did the same thing, I also have one for invoices for work done on things like the car, furnace, hot water tank, appliances etc. it helps me easily see how much I spend on repairs every month & what has already been repaired (I found our furnace repair guy was using used parts so was continually replacing the same things☹), & also one for utility bills (my cell phone server was charging me incorrectly). It all helps me keep things straight & helps budget for the next year. I keep one with records of important information too, including locations of water shut off valves (I have a well for water system because I have 10 acres). I inherited my home & sure wish my parents had kept this for me so I knew what was what. 😄

We are kindred spirits! My sewing room is quite small, but I have an old library card catalogue that at one time was organized, but now is a mishmash of small items that belong elsewhere. I'm feeling the need to go through it and put things where they belong, and reunite like items. Your large set of drawers is amazing. I love furniture/cabinets with lots of drawers, but apparently lots of people do as well as the prices for those items has skyrocketed in recent years. I'm enjoying this series of videos. Am looking forward to the journal making tutorial. I make books too but am always looking for new ideas.
I love these videos. Always a cat trying to get your attention.🤗 You have had and still have so many adventures, hobbies and projects. Time flys listening and watching!❤
Hi Kate, from Victoria, Australia. We are having a mixed day here, wintry cold (15oC seems like winter!) and its still summer. No excuse for not ironing today. You have so inspired me to go thru my craft drawers, I even found a stash of patchwork pieces I can add to the crumb quilt. I am still in catch up mode watching all your old videos, loving it. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Kate! I just started watching your videos and love your style! I live in New Orleans Louisiana USA. We never ever get snow. Lots of high heat and humidity here. I love seeing Norma, Prudence, Sadie and Rita. I enjoy the chickens and Eileen the Goose. You are very good to animals that’s wonderful. I haven’t been to England one day I’ll get there. I am now making your little Quilted dog. And eat as much butter as you want. I think you are fine. Love your videos. Kris Held
thank you Kris! be sure to send me pictures of your dog so I can include it in the gallery video I'll make sometime! xxxx Thank you ... permission to eat butter!!! xxx YAY!
I'm also in de-clutter mode - today I brought down a large box of sewing 'stuff', unseen for nearly 25 years! I kept 20%, binned 10% and the rest donated to my daughters craft group. Like you I had a shop, for 10 years, selling bric-a-brac and sewed/hired fancy dress, so I understand how we accumulate, store and find it hard to let go (cos once you do you'll need it!). I also worked at Oxfam for 14 years and brought home 'stuff' that was being binned/unsaleable, hoping to give it a new home. I have a few more boxes to go through still! Your video made me smile :)
I am thoroughly enjoying watching you organize the sewing room drawers and going through memories as well. Love the stories. Love, love, love the animal interruptions!
I could relate to your little envelope of silk. A friend who does upholstery work gave me her expired sample books containing silk and wool samples. I treasure such little gems! I love organizing...doesn’t it make you feel accomplished! ;-)
That cabinet is wonderful, it just never stops giving! Kind of a combination Treasure-Trove-and-Junk-Drawer that never ends! ha I think you're doing a great job sorting out...
When people were asking about the drawers and then there was talk about sorting them out, I don't think anyone meant that you needed to get rid of stuff. I think they just wanted to see what was in there. lol Always good to have a go thru on the drawers once in a while so you can get reacquainted with what's in there. I have to do that from time to time.
I like how your cats just wander around ,when I'm trying to get some sewing done my 20 pound queen Ming seems to think she should bat at it or lay on my work , LOL
Making myself chuckle. I’ve just made your delicious anti inflammatory soup and it was really tasty. Now, I’m watching you again clearing the drawers out......finding it satisfying n comical. Love your ways. X
I love those little denim boxes! Kicking myself for toss those old worn out bluejeans! I collect postcards too. I used to document our trips with them ; )
I don't know how long you have been putting videos up on UA-cam, but I find it amazing how many of us have just found your channel in the last week or so. I found you (or UA-cam found me) because of my Quilting interests. All I've watched so far have been really fun. Keep it coming. We got 14" of snow over the weekend and the temps have not been above freezing for a couple of weeks, nor will they get there this week, so I am hibernating. What better thing to do than watch your lovely, homey conversation. Wait - - what? Drawers? There are drawers to clean out? NO-O-O!
Hello to you, Kate. I know this drawer clean out is a bit of a job but I have to say I really love that set of drawers. They look so handy and the windows on the front. Wishing I had one for all my bits and pieces. But like you, I’m sure I’d have it filled with all sorts of things in no time. Still, you’ve found some interesting things and you’re getting through it! :)
Good Morning Kate. I just found you on youtube and I am so glad I did. Watching this morning. You said you thought the drawers are not in the correct order. I think the second drawer you cleaned out was put back in the wrong place. Take a look at that before you start in another location. I think you put it below it's correct space. Hope I'm right and save you some time. Got to get back to watching the rest of the show today. I love your house.
thank you =- I think the problem is I chalked numbers on two separate occasions! ha ha!! now I'm not sure what goes where - but you're right about that one! xxx
Hi Kate, It's evening here now and I'm only now putting my feet up to watch your video. You'll be pleased to know I've been cutting out the squares of cardboard for a dog. Next will be choosing some fabric. Enjoyed your video as always.
Hello, Kate. Like you, I find sorting out isn’t too difficult but finding a real home for all the sorted piles is tough. I can remember when there was a “place for everything and everything was in its place!” Trust me ... that was many decades ago. As a crafter and semi-artist there’s just too much miscellaneous stuff that defies sorting and organizing. Someday my kids will most likely shovel it out to the bin. Lol. I do enjoy seeing you make headway. Salute!! 💕
I find that interesting because what I consider to be treasure or essential - I know my kids will just bag up for the tip. I am part way though my Mum's craft and sewing supplies - and she did EVERYTHING and I am b bewildered by it all .... I have promised myself that none of it will come home with me and so far - none has! but there is way too much *stuff* in the world. xxxxx
The Last Homely House East of the Sea My heart’s with you, Kate. It’s not an easy task. I did the same about 5 years ago. I still have a few things - can’t bear to part with them. I know it’s just “stuff”, but still ..... Take your time and be gentle with yourself. ❤️
Smart idea to put them in the charity shop. If I lived near that shop, I'd be in there poking around whenever I was out. You're so right about the postage! I laugh when your cat walks in front of the camera. I adopted a cat and love her. She's 11 now and not a bit interested in any of my hobbies and crafts. I love dogs, but can't give them all the energy and excercise they require.
Oh pls make the pom-poms . I bought a set of three pom-pom makers like yours back in December to add to some knitted and crocheted winter hats I made for me and my fluffy baby, but I didn't get round to making them in the end... So we've spent the winter with pom-pomsless hats...
That was my mum. she held on to a pile of crochet patters for decades and when she finally threw them out, the very next week someone asked if she had any! ha ha!!!
Kate, you can't keep everything!! Go ahead. I dare ya!! Toss something! LOLOL I'm a terrible purger. I throw everything out. I'm still searching for things, but realize I've pitched it. About 8 years ago I decided it was highly unlikely that I would ever do cross stitch embroidery and donated a huge container of supplies, half finished pieces, patterns, materials. Guess who's up to her elbows in cross stitching these days. Yup!! Me!! You NEVER know when you'll change your mind. No, you deal with that task any way you want. Pay no attention to me. LOLOL. Take care and I hope you've have a productive day (7:00 your time? It's 1:00 here. Just checking.
I've been watching that lovely little Japanese lady on Netflix - and if it doesn't 'spark joy' then it has to go! trouble is - most of my things spark joy! xxx and you will always want its a week after you throw it out! xxx
Save your old tape measures, cut them up when you do one of your journals. The counter you have we have one on the haybaler to count the bales of hay when they are made.
Back to you did little sewing and washing now crocheting watching hubby watching reruns wow i need some tape measurements like the colorful words there i have a lot of 2 1/2 inch squares so i thought i do a postage stamp lap quilt phew or string quilting button button who got the button lol i have those pompom maker
I think if they had a 75% off sale at the local store here there would be no way I would make it. I am so zoned watching your videos Kate. So happy your you tube channel popped up on my tablet!!!
Reading the comments hahaha I think I've found my people , if your a crafter / artist/ sewer /etc etc etc. So many supplies ,a little bit of everything ,and from project to project stuff seems to get disorganized . You know you have it ! But where ?
I think there are lots of people like us who love to try all sorts of things! and slowly I am gathering them all together here! it's rather marvellous! xxx
@@thelasthomelyhouse I just came across your videos and new subscriber , I keep seeing the different things you do , and saying I do that too ! So I do feel their support and appreciation . I appreciate your relaxing manner ,easy on the ears and mind 💙
So true, Linda. It can all becone quite maddening after a while when you want to save every scrap. Especially if you have no designated craft room and find yourself pouring through the same stuff over and over again looking for just the right treasure, but not finding it in the hoard. Ha ha.
I am watching this, and thoroughly enjoying it Kate, I could almost be watching myself do the same thing. The things you have forgotten you had, the memories (the promises to throw most of it out) and ending up keeping a lot more than intended... I think there are a lot of us Bowerbirds out there :D, well there are worse things to be, don't you think...lol? Wish I lived in the UK... would have loved to meet up for a cup of tea and a chat ( well you never know, stranger things and all that) thanks for the video xo
I think there are a lot of people like us out there Diane - I feel like they are all getting together on this channel for one massive friendly party! xxxxx
I would have kept all the same things you did. In an insane fit of organization 3 years ago, I donated all my scrapbook paper and card stock. Now I want to start art jounaling again and I don't have a scrap of paper.😩 Second time I have given away art supplies in frustration. When will I ever learn? They say if you don't find an item useful or beautiful, get rid of it. I find that if I find something annoys me, no matter how useful or beaitiful, I want it gone!
Good for you Kate another drawer sorted. I had to laugh at myself when you pulled out the packet of badges. Your finger must have been over the letter `S` because I thought I had read POTTY! Now you really would have hung onto them for a long while.
Geez here and I thought I’d never see another clicker again, used it to count people entering Costco. Funny item to show up in a sewing room. I’ve used clothes pins to help with sewing, can be quite handy.
My sister was good at prognostication! She got me a magnet I proudly display on my fridge. It says: Organized people are just too lazy to get up and look for things. That is too true for me. :)
I miss this... not sure what it was about the series whether it was my OCD for cleaning or hearing all the stories connected to certain objects or seeing all the goodies you pulled out. Have anymore drawers to organize? 😁 all the best to you Kate.
yes - but don't confine yourself to triangles! The PGB is little rectangles and I have it above where I feed the cats! (they deserve nothing less!) xxx
@@thelasthomelyhouse I'm curious about the little window hagings you made with the fabric from India ,is there anything in it to make it hold it's shape or just what you put on the back ?

She is a sewer, quilter. Such a job. We all need to save our children that task. I am trying. It was fun watching you organize. Now for my junk. Hugs.

Oh yes it is! So hard. I have started giving my two children and 6 grands now. Is has been fun seeing what they want. It's all about the fun not the stuff.
Hallo Kate....i do that… clean out drawers….seperate things like you do...always have a big pile of things i want to get rid of....and i end up putting everything back...cant trow anything away….there is no triftshop here or i would buy all of it back...😊🙃
I was hoping to see you later that night, outside with a sparkler. I would love to see your Pom poms 😮. Your magnets reminded me of a little story I read the other day and I wanted to share it with you. This little girls hamster got out of its cage, later the family found it behind the refrigerator. A few days passed and the poor little hamster wasn’t eating or drinking, it would stay in the corner of its cage all day in the same spot. They took the hamster to the veterinarian and to everyone’s surprise the poor little hamster had a magnet down in its mouth pouch. It was stuck to the side of the cage for two days. 🐹 ❤️ 🧲 😆
I just didn't want this to stop, I really enjoy these videos Kate. Thank you. Maybe you can do two drawers each episode, thirty minutes would be wonderful😁❤😘
I will carry on tidying drawers every monday until they are all DONE!! I don't like to make super long videos - I don't think people have the time!??? xxx
Too funny that you did not know where your sewing machine manual was stored. You know your machine well! I must refer to mine for the littlest things. As you clear out each drawer, are you labeling it? I only have 8 drawers and forget what I put where. Have a lovely evening. Oh, and late congrats on the Djokovic win in Australia. No pics of the cat pattern yet; still in progress.
I thought about the labels in the windows. Not so much for Kate to remember (she has that in excellent working condition), but just to see what she would create to suit her life themes.
no - I'm not labelling them! I guess I am putting something near the front that might indicate what is in there? though even that sounds too organised for me!! I'll just have to clear them all out again in another ten years! xxx

Thank you Wendi! enjoy your 'heatwave'!!! xxx
Of COURSE you need them!! Very Important! Goodness, your cats are so sweeet!! 😻😻😻
Your video made me smile :)
the charity shop work was a nightmare - I brought so many things home! oh dear! xxx
Your cabinet looks antique. I wonder if it was used commercially at one time.
I've found a lot of old souvenir postcards that I now send to my daughters randomly. They really enjoy getting them.
I am thoroughly enjoying watching you organize the sewing room drawers and going through memories as well. Love the stories. Love, love, love the animal interruptions!
Love the feathers! My mother would have used those on her artistic wall hangings.
I absolutely love these drawer sorting episodes. Everything has a story. :)
I could relate to your little envelope of silk. A friend who does upholstery work gave me her expired sample books containing silk and wool samples. I treasure such little gems!
I love organizing...doesn’t it make you feel accomplished! ;-)
I should extend this to my whole house though! xxx
I use boxes recycled from tissues etc. cut down to size to fit into drawers to sort out and store items. They are free.
I’m cleaning for the holidays 11/2022. Taking a break and watching you my friend. Claudia in NC
I just discovered you and have been totally enjoying you!!! You are absolutely wonderful. You are a calmness in this chaotic world. Thank you
That cabinet is wonderful, it just never stops giving! Kind of a combination Treasure-Trove-and-Junk-Drawer that never ends! ha I think you're doing a great job sorting out...
Oh my Kate, keep up the good work sorting the pieces. 💝
Prudence is hilarious 😂 She doesn’t mind the camera is running. I love how patient you are with her.
Hi Kate cleaning out drawers have hidden treasures 😊
NO-O-O!
I have no idea how all these lovely new people have turned up - it is lovely beyond words! xxx and you are most welcome! xxx
there is a temptation to just stuff 'things' in anywhere - which is why a tidy out is required from time to time! xxx
I love your house.
thank you =- I think the problem is I chalked numbers on two separate occasions! ha ha!! now I'm not sure what goes where - but you're right about that one! xxx
I love your curtains!!
Hi Kate, It's evening here now and I'm only now putting my feet up to watch your video. You'll be pleased to know I've been cutting out the squares of cardboard for a dog. Next will be choosing some fabric. Enjoyed your video as always.
send me pictures for the gallery video I'm going to make .... no hurry though! xxx
I have promised myself that none of it will come home with me and so far - none has! but there is way too much *stuff* in the world. xxxxx
The Last Homely House East of the Sea
My heart’s with you, Kate. It’s not an easy task. I did the same about 5 years ago. I still have a few things - can’t bear to part with them. I know it’s just “stuff”, but still ..... Take your time and be gentle with yourself. ❤️
Hello from Texas. That was so fun to watch! I imagine it gives you new ideas for more projects. :)
Oh the treasures, so many potential projects, so exciting!
Every time she walks in front of the camera, I get a good laugh. No other channel offers that service! 😂
I have a special clear zip up folder for all the home's appliance products. I lives in the filing cabinet.
My dear dad always used to say 'it might come in handy even if you never use it'!
I've been watching that lovely little Japanese lady on Netflix - and if it doesn't 'spark joy' then it has to go! trouble is - most of my things spark joy! xxx and you will always want its a week after you throw it out! xxx
I love those drains. Great you can see in. Xx
Save your old tape measures, cut them up when you do one of your journals. The counter you have we have one on the haybaler to count the bales of hay when they are made.
those counters are the best - when you need one, nothing is as good! Hay Bales!!! yay! xxx
Thanks Kate ❤
I think if they had a 75% off sale at the local store here there would be no way I would make it. I am so zoned watching your videos Kate. So happy your you tube channel popped up on my tablet!!!
so am I!!! xxx welcome xxx
"I'm keeping that." Lol. I'd keep that stuff as well. ❤️❤️❤️
I love your cat walking about while you're filming😀
Reading the comments hahaha I think I've found my people , if your a crafter / artist/ sewer /etc etc etc. So many supplies ,a little bit of everything ,and from project to project stuff seems to get disorganized . You know you have it ! But where ?
I think there are lots of people like us who love to try all sorts of things! and slowly I am gathering them all together here! it's rather marvellous! xxx
@@thelasthomelyhouse
I just came across your videos and new subscriber , I keep seeing the different things you do , and saying I do that too ! I have so many things I do and family can't believe all the stuff that I'll keep to use for something some day ,haha .but I'm the first one they come to to get something fixed ,made ,or designed .
Ha ha.
@@msjenjenp , LoL I was trying to avoid the word hoard !
I love your videos. Love the March calendar picture. your subscribers jumped from 1,000 to 3,600 quick. Congratulations
I know - isn't tat crazy! so many lovely new people! xxx
I find that if I find something annoys me, no matter how useful or beaitiful, I want it gone!
also -' things' can hold negative memories too - irrationally, I got rid of all of that! xxx
Always enjoy your de cluttering😍😍🇦🇺Love your tape measure collection!
Ok, I’m getting up to clean off my table! Thank you!
Good for you Kate another drawer sorted. I had to laugh at myself when you pulled out the packet of badges. Your finger must have been over the letter `S` because I thought I had read POTTY! Now you really would have hung onto them for a long while.
Potty Badges - a real best seller! xxx
Organizing is so much fun
Geez here and I thought I’d never see another clicker again, used it to count people entering Costco. Funny item to show up in a sewing room. I’ve used clothes pins to help with sewing, can be quite handy.
clickers - just the thing when you need one! xxx
“Very English”, Kate! Love how you tossed those ridiculous comments right out.
Hahahaha oh! Prudence your so obedient.
My sister was good at prognostication! She got me a magnet I proudly display on my fridge. It says: Organized people are just too lazy to get up and look for things. That is too true for me. :)
I have a magnet on my fridge that says 'make yourself at home.... tidy my kitchen' no-one ever has sadly! xxx
i love that wall hanging its so unique x
Thank you! xxx
So relaxing, it’s like having a chat with a friend...
I miss this... not sure what it was about the series whether it was my OCD for cleaning or hearing all the stories connected to certain objects or seeing all the goodies you pulled out. Have anymore drawers to organize? 😁 all the best to you Kate.
Watching your channel is like going to a good friend's house and having a right good natter. C from the little haunted cottage in Ireland 🍀🍀🍀👻👻👻
If you ever make a magic wand you will NEED those Jay feathers!
I knew I was keeping them for a reason! A wand it is!!! xxx
Hi Kate! - Posh-Girl-Bunting!!! I love it, I'm going to make me some and I'm going to call it "Kate's Posh-Girl-Bunting" :-)
Ahhh ,I just got it !! LOL
Bunting is the little triangle flags that go on a string and you have it hanging outside? Yes ? I love that idea !
yes - but don't confine yourself to triangles! The PGB is little rectangles and I have it above where I feed the cats! (they deserve nothing less!) xxx
@@thelasthomelyhouse I'm curious about the little window hagings you made with the fabric from India ,is there anything in it to make it hold it's shape or just what you put on the back ?
Hello Kate, I just discovered your channel two days ago and am so happy I did. You are delightful! Now I must go watch all the videos I've missed :)
hello! happy to have you on board! xxx
When you do crafts there is always so much stufffffffff!!!! What to do, what to do. My hubs and brothers just worked a week on their mums house trying to get rid and organize for an estate sale. She is a sewer, quilter. Such a job. We all need to save our children that task. I am trying. It was fun watching you organize. Now for my junk. Hugs.
having got part way though my Mum's sewing and crafting things - I know exactly what you lot are doing - and yes - I need to save my lot this task! but it's so hard isn't it! xxx
Oh yes it is! So hard. I have started giving my two children and 6 grands now. Is has been fun seeing what they want. It's all about the fun not the stuff.
I just love watching you!❤️
Hallo Kate....i do that… clean out drawers….seperate things like you do...always have a big pile of things i want to get rid of....and i end up putting everything back...cant trow anything away….there is no triftshop here or i would buy all of it back...😊🙃
some of this isn't even thrift shop worthy - but a trip to the tip with it all is in order I think! xxx
Wait, if they were curtain rings you can use them for Dorset buttons. They are hard to find nowadays.
I'm glad I am not the only one who has drawers full of stuff.........
So many ‘treasures’!
oh dear! poor little chap! what a good job you found it in time! xxx
Old measuring tapes work for your journals? Or trim on your fabric boxes?
great ideas! xxx
wow, that looks like heaven!!! :)
I'll just have to clear them all out again in another ten years! xxx
Attach the feathers to the bottom of one of the cut out square hangings you made in the Pavilion.
Norma loves you so much:).
Would love to see you make Pom poms and braid!🙂
sew the measure tapes into a quilt or denim box
I find it amazing(and a bit shameful) that there are over 13,000 views on this post and only 600ish thumbs up.
Just curious...postage stamps in the bag....why did you collect them? What was your intentions for them? 😉
I watch you later while crocheting tonight lol
Where are you Kate 😬😬 U-Tube says you are ‘private” are you no longer on U-Tube??
Are the pom pom makers made by Clover? They make really good notions.
yes - they are - did you watch the Midsummer Wedding video I posted - about 3000 pompoms there ! xxx
No, but will👍🏻
Oh my gosh, woman-it’s so hard knowing you can’t hear my advice!! 😂😂
Omg that American post card!! Lolol
Did you make the pom-pom video, if you did could you tell me the title. Thanks
You not given up keep going girl
there are 33 drawers! hahaha!!!
