It was intended for the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes, but Ozempic has become the latest fad in the weight loss industry. The drug, which is a weekly injection that helps to lower blood sugar levels, has an unintended side effect: slowing digestion and encouraging people to eat less. Thousands of Ozempic users from around the world are calling it a weight loss miracle, having shed kilogrammes after just a few weeks on the drug. But as more people turn to Ozempic for weight loss, the drug is becoming harder to find, and diabetes patients are paying the price. Now some users are turning to the black market to purchase the drug.

What is my biggest concern, people can buy these drugs without prescriptions. It is a controlled drug, but every second person is selling it. If done by a doctor or dietitians, I have no problem with it, but people are buying it because they gain one or two kilos. This a real epidemic. I lost 27kg by walking daily and cut of sugar and I am 65 years old

Lol..suddenly the comment section is full of health and fitness experts...if only it was as easy as some make it out to be. _"Stop eating junk food...exercise regularly."_ .etc...etc..gaining weight has MORE to do with a mental state than physical one..people don't just decide to get overweight and let themselves go..it's a process that manifests itself overtime. There is something bigger that make people throw in the towel and say "I don't care anymore!"...don't be so quick to judge..it could be you in a couple of years..

I dont think people saying eat healthier and exercise could ever be a bad idea in general.
There are unrefutable benefits and the more you do it the better you become at it.
The general public does not have severe thyroid issues or some other fat storing genetic pre-disposition.

Correct diet and exercise. In the old days everyone was in shape, because schools enforces exercise and sports. Kids played out side and not on phones/ tablets and games all day. Young men and woman kept fit by staying active, working and eating healthy home cooked meals not take aways. No gym memberships and natural meds and foods. Sweets were a treat not everyday food.

While intermittent fasting, diet and exercise are best practices for losing weight, my heart goes out to diabetics (like my late father) who need it the most to manage their deadly insulin levels. So, please think twice if you only want to lose a few jean sizes before you legally use limited Ozempic supplies and potentially put those most at risk, facing life-or-death situations.

Blood sugar and insulin resistance is like paddling through mud without a paddle. It is not easy to lose like it is for others. Eat one meal per day, drink a cup of coffee and two litres(8 glasses) of water per day, take long walks, and most importantly, keep yourself occupied. The number one cause of weight gain is being idle, which leads to turning to food as a pass time and for comfort. The less you're in a position to eat, the more weight you'll lose. Make sure by the end of the day you are tired so you'll go straight to sleep instead of watching tv while having snacks or takeaway. It's not really about diet, it's about creating an excess demand for energy from your body even though you barely eat, which will force your body to burn the fat. I've gained weight and lost it again 3 times just by doing this.

Ok, I have suffered type 2 diabetes since 2006. I am now on insulin. Any doctor who studies 20 hours of nutrition during their medical schooling does not understand how diabetic patients suffer. The root cause of obesity is the amount of sugar and salt in all foods at supermarkets. Fix that problem, and we will heal. it is a nightmare, no two days are the same. you can do whatever to manage your diet, but nothing works. Cutting out meat, cheese, and milk results in deficiencies down the line. Our government and doctors should be more involved with the manufacturing of food products. Ozrmpic would be a lifesaver for me, but it's unaffordable and never available. Where is the government and our pharmaceutical body in curbing the sale of Ozempic to people who do not have diabetes? You need to implement new habits & coping mechanisms & face your stuff, not stuff your face. I am trying but it's a daily battle.

I'm far more cynical about the 'shortage' of these types of drugs. It's not like it's a plant-based drug. It's synthetic, so in theory, they could just ramp up production.
One possible reason they haven't is that inaccessibility to a product like this creates more demand.
The second could be that pharma companies and hospitals who stand to make billions from cardiac and other weight related issues are suddenly experiencing a decrease in sales and thirdly, ozempic is patented and the patent is only due to expire in a few years, so as the law stands it cannot be replicated by other companies right now.

There are alternative weight loss drugs, like mounjaro, made by another company, that does not have a shortage.
I think the sudden popularity of these drugs (although Ozempic has been available since 2017) via social media took doctors and pharmaceutical companies by surprise and their initial reaction has been one of disapproval of the general public taking drugs for weight loss, but for myself, I feel its a great way to kick-start weight loss as long as you stop taking it once you've lost the weight you want to lose.
