    Also! If you have panic attacks in, say, crowds, and you are going to a place you KNOW is going to be crowded it may be best not to bind. I had a panic attack while binding and trust me, it isn't fun and I felt like I was going to pass out.
    So if you know are going to be near a panic attack trigger, it may be best to not bind.

    The bra laundry thing; I wear a sports bra that's small so it KIND OF works as a binder, it hardly does anything but I can't afford a real one. And I sleep in it and it hardly gets washed I know that sounds gross but I get dysporic af without it, and so my mom never sees bras in my basket, she's never once asked about it though how weird it's been like this for about a year. (I wash the sports bra every two months ok it's not like I NEVER wash it leave me alone)

      If you get the wish all or go on the wish site they have really cheap binders that work REALLY well my friend friend uses one and they love it. It flattens their chest really well they're a c cup but they look like a normal guy who has a little bit of pecks so I highly recommend wish they have some for like 5 dollars plus like 3 dollars shipping

      It's okay, I went a very long time wearing just one binder every single day without washing it for a few months before I had money to buy a new one. I have 2 now and i switch each week which one i use so i can wash the other one. I understand its really difficult when you cant afford one. I would suggest wearing 2 sports bras, it depends on how tight they are. If it is too tight, then don't wear two. But hopefully you'll be able to find a cheap binder. There are also places online wear people give away their old binders or do clothing exchanges and that may be cheap/free?

    Hey! If you wear the binder for more than 8 hours a day, PLEASE take it off every now and then to breathe. I don't have a good binder atm but I'd recommend going to a bathroom and taking it off for a bit then putting it back on. Don't keep it on for too long and take breaks as often as you need to.

      Doctor Mad Hatter maybe if you know you're just gonna be playing a sport, that should be fine with a binder. workouts aren't good with a binder. you can also see whether you'll sweat during the sports, if so, don't wear the binder. I recommend just wearing sports bras for gym, and then after gym wipe the sweat off your body and put your binder on. as with running, it depends, but you run the risk of losing your breath way more easily (haha i think that's a pun). i've heard you can wear a looser binder while exercising and you'll be fine. so maybe try that if you have really bad dysphoria. but it might just be better to wear a sports bra, plus it'll give your body a break. you can also just try out gym with your usual binder and see how that goes. you don't wanna risk damage to your breast tissue, which can affect top surgery if u get that in the future, and your ribs. just listen to your body.
      sorry this is so long haha, just wanna try to help and give as much detail as I can. Good luck.

    if you are not out to your parents but you wear a binder everyday and you want to wash it, how would you do that? I'm getting one soon and I'm planning on hand washing it but if I hung it up somewhere, wouldn't my parents notice?

    • @RyanPerch1
      @RyanPerch1  7 років тому +13

      Hand washing it is good, i would say hang it in your closet separate from your other clothes. If you don't have a closet/big enough closet then I'd say hang it in your room and maybe close your door for a little while or hide it behind something or do it when your parents arent home

      Hey, this is three years late, but if you're still not out or someone reading this is having a similar issue, I don't have a binder (because I can only find ones online and my card shares receipts with my dad) but I have pair of boxers that I wash at night when my parents are asleep and keep them in an old backpack my they wouldn't bother looking through. In your pillowcase is also a good spot if your parents don't make your bed or fiddle with it, just make sure to fold it flat under the pillow inside the case. (having multiple pillows on top helps too) Or you could make a hiding spot in an old stuffie by cutting a subtle slot in it and hiding it in your closet. I don't know if I'd recommend hiding it in plain sight on your bed, but it all depends on how closely your parents look into your stuff and how they treat your privacy.

    The thing with gc2b binders is the surface that is close to your body and around your chest has an almost plastic feel, if you size up you can exercise in it (I sized up accidently and found this out from their info) i wouldn’t recommend anything crazy or if it’s hot out, but I wouldn’t worry about things like light jogging or long walks

    for my wash, my mom is so utterly clueless to what I wear so I have a black binder. it looks like a similar black sports bra I used to wear 24/7.
    but, it is recommended that you HAND WASH AND HANG DRY your binder! it is much safer and discreet.

    Also if you don't mind helping me out with this question…
    How do you know when a binder is too small? Idk if you mentioned it in the video or not but I would like to know
    Thank you

    • @RyanPerch1
      @RyanPerch1  8 років тому

      +Phelix Phelix Hey, you are very welcome! I didn't think of it until it was too late, lol.
      Usually you would know its too small if it doesn't fit properly like if you can't pull it over your head or you cant pull it up if you are stepping into it to put it on. If you can get it on though, there's still a possibility that its too tight. If you can't breathe or can breathe but its very difficult or hurts or there is a lot of discomfort, then it is too small. On the websites where you can buy the binders, they have a size chart and it tells you how to measure yourself so you can make sure you get the right fit.
      I hope this helped and thank you for the comment. :)
      Let me know if you need help with anything else!

    So I have two tips about the tank binder from Underworks; or any binder, really.
    The first one is learn how to breath from the diaphragm; like singers, some athletes and people who meditate have learned to do.
    Breathing up high in your chest is an incorrect way to breathe anyway, and causes all sorts of problems.
    When you lower your breathing into your diaphragm, almost all of the associated difficulties of chest breathing disappear.
    I've watched many, many You Tube videos on binding and so far have not found one that addresses this problem with this simple solution; which seems like a no brainer to me.
    The other tip concerns all that extra fabric; and it is a good one!!
    Try folding the excess material up from your waist; so it covers the top of your chest. Essentially, you are folding the binder in half and using the extra material as an extra layer over the bust. The extra fabric should end just under the underarm to be effective, and if you need help getting the back to match the front I suggest folding it before you put it over your head; using something like a long back scratcher to catch the back and help pull it down once it is on and getting someone you trust to help you arrange the back if you can.
    This has worked wonders for me; and so far it does not seem to slip or drift or change in the course of wearing the binder for the day. I've also considered cutting off that material and adding it to the top manually; creating a second layer by stitching it carefully (re-cut and patterned to match the shape; of course,) to the top part of the tank.
    If you don't sew yourself, most small sewing jobs can be done by your local dry cleaner; who usually will have a seamstress or tailor associated or even part of their shop.If you can't get to one for whatever reason, there are many, many basic sewing tutorials online and teaching oneself how to hand sew or use a machine is pretty easy these days.
    If I ever alter a binder in this way I will post a tutorial; as there will be some technical issues such as matching the compression of the primary layer or creating enough tension in the fabric to sustain the reduction of the chest tissue.

    Hey man!
    I'm pretty new to binding and I was wondering if I could wear it for a full college day? That's 7am-5:30pm. I know it's over 8 hours but I can't just remove it or anything. If I were to go to the bathroom and hold it up to let myself breathe for a bit would that work?

    • @RyanPerch1
      @RyanPerch1  7 років тому +3

      Honestly, I wear mine longer than 8 hours when I need to because i also go to college and am there all day. I think you should be fine, just take it off once you get home and maybe take a day to just not bind maybe over the weekend!

    My parents and brothers all day I’m their “little sister” or “daughter” but really I don’t feel that way, for the past year or two I have been really struggling with my identity and gender but know one knows a thing about it.my mom buys me bras when she knows I absolutely despise them, I am too shy to ask her to help me buy a binder online so I had to make one with thread and an old tank top. I need some advice on how to figure out who I am or what I feel because I don’t know...

      Mad Anime You might be a trans guy, a demi boy, agender, nonbinary, etc. But you're the only person that can really figure that out. I'm transmasculine nonbinary (I don't identify 100% with boy or girl, but out of the two I do feel like I should be more masculine). I did a lot of research when I was questioning, and this was the term that matched what I was feeling the best. Good luck!

    I have a problem. I've been feeling like a boy for a long time, and I've told my best friend and my girlfriend. My best friend is trans too. I told him recently that I can't afford a binder and I have a lot of dysphoria. Today he gave me a binder (that his mum made him, but it's totally safe!). The problem is, I'm not gonna wear the binder at home at sometimes not even at school, but, when the binder needs to get washed... What do I even do? Do you think it'll be fine if I wash it with the laundry products with my own hands? If I use the washing machine my mum will find out! Hey, so, I have a question. I bought a GC2B binder, a size large. But I sized into a 38, which was the large’s maximum. But my shoulders are a 17, so I didn’t go up a size since I think it would be too big. And I can breathe and put it on just fine. So, the day after I got it I wore it to school for about 8 hours. I noticed rib pain three hours in. And after a day I’m still having discomfort in that area. I didn’t know if it was the sizing for the fact it’s not stretched out, and or my body isn’t used to it. Because I could still take deep breaths and didn’t have pain anywhere else besides on one side. It also rolled up quite a bit putting more pressure into the rib area. The pain mainly happened when sitting down. So I don’t know if I got my sizing wrong, or if it was from binding too long without it being stretched out and my body not used to it.

    • @uncreativeboogieman2012
      @uncreativeboogieman2012 4 роки тому

      lads lads lads Yeah, that part was dumb. I just kind of forgot everyone’s body is different since my friends said they had no trouble binding for 8 hours after getting it. I’m not too sure, but only time will tell.

      It's not absolutely horrible, but its not recommended. You shouldn't really use two binders at the same time bc it may cause damage to your ribs or lungs or something

      It IS safe if you bind correctly. Do not use ace bandages. Buy a binder from a trusted site like Underworks or GC2B. Do not use 2 binders at once and do not sleep in them. It is safe to bind if you do it correctly!

    • @RyanPerch1
      @RyanPerch1  6 років тому

      Well, they dont really make ones that are for swimming and they aren't made to swim in. If you do swim in one, I would say just swim in a size up from what you usually wear so you dont hurt yourself.

    What if your back cracks and hurts constantly when u bind? I have a gc2b large binder, it's measured right and everything but my shoulder blades go in and out of place and makes it extremely painful to bind (I can only wear it comfortably for 2 to 3 hours a day, 2 times a week) h e l p

      Unfortunately, I think you should take long breaks in between binding and make sure that you stretch before and after you wear it. Also order a size bigger than the one you have

    Dumb Me Time: I used and ace bandage for a year and as the warnings have said I ruined any chance I had at track I can't breathe without a deep breathe every few seconds, I can't have pressure on the side of my chest, and I'm damn sure I broke like 2 ribs. Please I beg people don't use ace bandages.

    • @RyanPerch1
      @RyanPerch1  7 років тому

      I'm actually not sure what size i am, i think it was like.. 38c? I know larger sizes are hard to bind, mine doesnt bind as well as I'd like but try to (as weird as this sounds) pull your breasts apart from each other in your binder while its on. It may not help a lot, but it does a bit. Try wearing layered clothing or baggy clothing, too. I hope that helps, im sorry!

  • @ashton8289
    @ashton8289 5 років тому

    You should buy from GC2B! They’re much better quality, more comfortable, made for trans people, and have more color options. They’re better all around, before I got top surgery I got six GC2B binders and 2 binders from the discrimant in the year and a half i binded my chest and in my experience GC2B is awesome. I’m a singer and a dancer and I work out in a binder (I even slept in it) and I never got hurt, so get GC2B

    • @RyanPerch1
      @RyanPerch1  5 років тому

      I actually have another video where I did get the GC2B ones and I personally don't like them that much but I may just be used to the underworks ones. I feel like it didnt bind me as well and get me as flat. Although the colors are awesome and I got one that was very close to my skin tone which was great when I wore tank tops and made me feel a lot more confident! Idk why I just wasn't a big fan of the GC2B and I had to try a lot of sizes before I got it right. Although since then I have gotten top surgery so now I don't have a need for them lol but thank you!
