Thank you for a brilliant flashback to my past. I lived on the outskirts of Hitchin in the late 70's - our house looked out over the rose nurseries and with a dog who loved running away many hours were spent shouting his name over the fields of roses as he enjoyed his favourite pastime. Letchworth was always the preferred place for an evening out and I lose count of the number of evenings spent at the cinema. I lost my Mum 8 years ago and seeing the roads around Letchworth bought back so many memories of happy times - thanks again.
I am 64 years of age and I had never heard of a black squirrel until this video. According to the internet there are approx. 25,000 of them in England.--- Great video Bob and Jenny, Letchworth looks like a lovely place to visit.
I can see why the house prices are so high, Letchworth looks like a lovely place to live. It was really nice to have a tour, made all the more meaningful with your reminiscences. Thanks for taking us with you.
Brilliant video really enjoyed that I used to drive trains from kings cross to letchworth never had enough time to have a look around as had to work the train back to kings cross 👍
Thank you so much for this! I moved to Poland some years ago, and due to Covid, haven't been able to see my parents for over a year (they live in Letchworth). Imagine my suprise when they appeared in your video!! Great to see my old teenage years stomping grounds!! Stay safe!
Great video i am at the ccc Hertford in the rain. And i have lived in Letchworh for 6years fab place and after watching the video saw parts of my town i will check out the Arboretum
A lovely fascinating video and fond memories that you shared of where you lived. Glad that Poppy has recovered and back on the mend. Thank you and stay safe.
I live in the North and whilst i have heard of Letchworth, never visited but when and if this situation we are in ever ends its on my list of places to visit. The town should pay you for promoting it so well.
Thoroughly enjoyed your trip down memory lane Bob and Eileen. Any road trip through England is a real treat for us and saves us the plane flight back :) Being born and bred in Brum, we finally travelled around to Wales, as newly weds, but it was only after 20 years over in Canada that we discovered the 'North', at least as far as Yorkshire. Flying into Manchester and across to Skegness and the touring around from there down to Cornwall and around back to visit relatives in Brum was a dream come true. I remember bursting into tears, as we rounded the corner of 'our road', to take our Canadian born children to visit the house I grew up in. So thanks for taking us along with you on your journey. We too loved checking out the towns churches and museums. Surprised that Letchworth still has an operating Cinema. Those windows are beautiful. Our 2 local cinemas were torn down years ago I have found out but they will always be a part of our dating memories! BTW I have grey and black squirrels visiting us daily. One black one buried a peanut in our grass, yesterday and then spotting several Mallards on our pond, ran up the nearby conifer and put up his tail and chatted out an aggressive challenge to leave his nut alone :)
I have lived in Letchworth all my life I am 64 now and I didn't no about the airfield in Willian, and although I have been in the fox pub a few times I have never taken a walk around the church grounds, really enjoyed this. and it was nice to see you two reminisce. the three horseshoes is a lovely pub further up the road, used to do lovely Sunday roasts, have you been in it.
Having lived in Letchworth from '68 to '87 your video was a great trip down memory lane for me too. I'm now living in Shropshire and also a motorhome owner.
Thank you for a most interesting visit. Ernest Carpenter Elmore, a crime writer writing under the pseudonym John Bude was a teacher at St Christopher School, Letchworth. His books are back in print by British Library Crime Classics.
Thank you both it was fascinating for us seeing our adopted home town in another light. We have lived here 33 years and it’s easy to take it for granted,. Sorry we missed seeing you both!
Wow excellent vlog, we visited Letchworth while staying at Ashridge Farm site a couple of weeks ago during the lovely warm weather we had in September. We loved the town & gardens & took a selfie in front of the water fountain just like you. Thank you Bob, Jenny & Poppy for bringing back so many happy memories of our caravan holiday. We will definitely be going back.💗😀xxx
Must visit Letchworth next time I'm in WGC. I think I only visited once, probably in the 70's. Great job with the filming. Thanks for letting us go along for the ride! 😊👍🏼
Great video and weather. Thanks for the travelogue/history too..it adds so much to the scenery and the town views. Although I'm from Hemel, I've only been to outskirts or passed by on A1 roundabout. Please leave the nice weather there and I'll be there soon!!🚙🐈👍👌🏅
Kathy B We really enjoyed your trip to Letchworth. We have lived here many years and loved watching your trip down memory lane with detailed commentary on all our familiar places, including your trip to the Fox at Willian, one of the places we often walk to from our house. As fellow motorhome enthusiasts, we follow your videos with great interest. Thank you.
Hi, thanks for all the great videos, I'm really enjoying them. I thought I recognised you when I started watching and thought that I had heard you mention Stevenage. I lived in Stevenage and Hitchin from 1958 to 2010. Perhaps we worked together somewhere. I also used to play in several local bands over the years. Please give Poppy a big hug from me, thanks again, Kev.
Really enjoyed that! Haven't been back since 2013 and haven't really lived there since 1998. Many memories flooded back from the town centre. Used to frequent the other pub in Willian and also used to cut across from the Jackmans - we used a different route across the Lordship estate and through the woods. Tour of the Jackmans estae next time please!
Perhaps next time we go back, we used to walk through the Lordship estate sometimes to get to the Three Horseshoes, which had a nice garden at the back.
I find it hard going back, our family home was knocked down and flats now stand there, dad's engineering yard all gone to houses, huge road layouts. Town centre is hardly recognisable. It is lovely to see your area looking so green and tree lined. Take care and thank you.
Good vlog bob that brought back a few flash backs the brother in law lived in Jackman's estate it's been a few year's ago you might now them butch Hughes & alan Hopkins
I am happy on my couch been sat here for almost 35 years in between working and bringing up our children 😂 I never fail though going back to Scotland and seeing all my family and the wonderful scenery 🐕
Thank you for your reply. You made us see our town in a new light! We have yet to visit the Willian Arboretum and find the car park nearby! For your interest, as you also have links with St Albans, my husband grew up there. Best wishes to you all.
Thank you both, full of interesting facts as usual, lovely to see Letchworth, Stevenage and surrounding area. We lived in Arlesey from 1993 to 2019. Take care, 🇮🇲🇮🇲 xx
I was a Wewyn Garden City boy but went to Letchworth catering college for 4 years 1975-9 and the Broadway hotel was the only bar and they weren't keen on having long haired louts from the college in, so most lunch times were spent above Burton's in the snooker club, 1p a minute for the lights, if my memory is correct or in the fondly remembered Koffee Kup cafe!
Good video Bob As I live in Stevenage its all local for me but you can forget how nice Hertfordhire is..Surprised you never stayed at Ashwell this time I was there a few weeks ago the three tuns is still shut!! keep up the great work and I see your subscribers are creeping up!! Just stayed at Sandringham caravan and motorhome club site last weekend I might give the Hertford site a visit have always meant to visit there but not got round to it
Been looking forward to this video, hope your all safe and well enjoy your day trip down memory lane. 👍🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴👍🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴👍
That was a lovely video. It must have been really nice to be back where you have many happy memories. It brought back some good memories for me too, I worked on a lot of projects in and around Letchworth and Hertfordshire. Thanks for sharing. 👍🚐
All I can remember from there is the Baldock and Letchworth Motor Comapany from the days when I worked for a drinks machine company, and McDonalds which I think was one of the first in the UK 😂😂😂
Thank you very much for a lovely informative video. Once again lovely scenery and great narrative to go with it. It was interesting listening to your memories. You mention your business. What was your career if you don't mind me asking? I don't live very far away from Letchworth and have never seen it as a place to walk around and enjoy. I've only ever just driven through it on my way to somewhere else. One thing I didn't know about was the walkway all around the town which I think is a lovely idea and a place I could go to walk my dogs. You have both opened my eyes to what a great place it is. Thank you again.
We had a Sage Software reseller business, helping people with setting up their business accounting software. Jenny designed and wrote custom databases to go with the software.
Sorry we missed you, we were away on a 4 week trip to North Yorkshire and back via Ferry Meadows CMC site. We arrived home today. Monty goes to Pampered Pets Letchworth next week for his regular visit.
@@BobEarnshawMoHo You should check out a website called Briton from above, you can see some really old aerial photos of Letchworth and some of the estate's before and during development.
Mrs Mr Earnshaw, this video is TERRIFIC !! LOOOOVE the drive to your destination and Lori and I would love to visit one day. However, with Brexit might be a bit difficult. Oh Well. Ciao from the Eternal City 🌃
Very interesting video, Bob, about a lovely town. I lived in Hemel Hempstead also a new town for a few years when I was young and my first real job was with International Computers Ltd (ICL) which had a manufacturing plant at. .... letchworth. Do you remember it, when you lived there?
We took Callum around my old stomping grounds when I was a kid in Northumberland and that brought a lot of memories. I am now stuck with a Northumbrian/ Oxfordshire accent which I hate. Still never mind.
Bob Earnshaw Thanks for replying, just interesting to know whereabouts in the UK you are with the distances you travel. So that was quite some distance to move.
I didn’t know you lived in letchworth. That is about 10 mins from where I live. (Whaddon) Where were you staying when you filmed this? As you came into letchworth and went past the esso garage where you said you filled up multiple times I thought you were lucky (card cloning) then you said you had your card cloned! that garage is renowned for cards being cloned. I quite fancy staying at the ashridge site in ashwell for a weekend just to get away.
Thanks, I did try and avoid that garage, but it was the nearest one to where we lived. Only happened the once. We were staying at the Hertford Camping and Caravanning Club Site (previous video).
And Jenny likes football, that's the perfect wife 😂👍 mine's hates football, but that's because of the Rangers and Celtic stuff up here in Glasgow, as you know Bob, it goes well beyond football here, and my Mrs cant stand it 🤣🤣👍👍

Whilst serving at RAF Henlow, I met my wife, who resided on Bedford Road, Letchworth. We currently live in North Wales some 30+ years later.
