Esepcially at the start of this theme 0:00-0:33, even when this isn't my first FF game, even when I don't experience these losses as you are, it still makes me sad regardless😭 Whenever I think of Aerith's theme, I usually imagine her death in that story beat of her theme.
This was such an emotional moment. The bulid up, the utter shock, fear, tears, and fury; Cloud feeling strong emotion for the first time. The music swelling as Areith was put into the water; quieting as she sank... This was one of the few times a game has brought me to tears. 😢 A thing about this theme, unlike others, it feels like it has movements. Dramatic major and minor apregios, the beautiful build up, and the swell to the F# minor. Then the phrase is resolved, only to begin another question before it loops. Truly, this theme is bulit different, meant to reflect and to hit the emotional core. And it sure has.
The reaction of her party will make me cry for sure, Cloud not being able to hold his emotions and losing it while her friend is dead in his arms, Tifa running away from the scene in disbelief and Yuffie doing her best to hold her tears and crying in Cloud's arms.
Plus, both Sephiroth and Aerith is able to see the future when they'll both gonna die. But in all likelyhood, Sephiroth in all possibilities is still going to kill Aerith the other way around her vision sadly😭

And thats could implies that the main character that will die won't be Aerith, but will be Tifa, because of Aerith as Sephiroth knows the future, he knows that was Tifa who helped Cloud to retrieves his original memories, meaning that Sephiroth could considers kill Tifa to prevent this, and makes the ordeal for Cloud harder, especially as he won't get back his original memories so easily. Even, the trailer of Rebirth gave a possible hint of this, for the fact that Sephiroth was like trying to insinuates that Tifa is an imposter, as he apparently killed the true Tifa in Nibelheim, implying that Sephiroth could tries to turn Cloud against her, and after get rid Tifa to prevent that Cloud be free from his control. While that in the case of Aerith, Sephiroth perhaps will spares her, to prevent that Aerith can return to the Planet, and become a greater threat for him. Adding that his last dialogue with Cloud in the final part of the Remake; "Seven seconds till the end, time enough perhaps", was like a possible sabotage of his future murder attempt on Aerith, to mentions the time that he need to stabbed her, to gives Cloud a "support" to saves Aerith. At least as theory.

The only hole in this theory is that Aerith already restored Cloud's memory from the future near her house in remake, before they get inside Shinra at Jenova's lab where Tifa also restored Cloud's memory that Sephiroth is planning to get rid of. And Tifa gained thr future memory after flinching the whisper harbringer in remake.
When thia track played before you go to Shinra HQ, I thought it sounded nic2, but didn't pay it much attention. Then then you hear this plays during that infamous cutscene, and the subsequent dialogue between Cloud and Sephiroth and I could feel Cloud's sorrow as he angrily spoke to Sephiroth. And then the Jenova LIFE battle starts, with this. I remember having Yuffie on my team during that battle. And seeing he cry on Cloud's shoulder after the battle didn't make me cry out loud, but I do remember shedding a manly tear. Only sadder death in the FF series IMO is Galuf's in FFV. Aerith's come as a close second.
Aerith SHOULD die in the remake, even though she's my favourite character in the entire game her death is literally what saves the planet from being destroyed.

In the remake everything is different, cloud is going out of his way to help everyone he can he isn't ignoring them, this time the ultimate good will prevail they will change fate. My only question is how will they handle that thematically cause as you said aerith dying is an essential note in the play, if aerith doesn't die, symbolically that means eternal life cause aerith is female christ.

Debirth didn't do any of the originals music justice at all. Plus they really fucked up the final scene in the game. It used to be so emotional but in debirth it's just ass. They basically said fuck you to the true ff7 fans with the demakes.
That's true, Rebirth is actually a great game however Aerith's death was ENTIRELY disappointing, I have a better idea on how the could have executed her death the way they wanted to do it while still staying true to the original but honestly at this point it would have been better for them to just actually remake the game rather than rebooting it under the alias of a remake. though the music isn't bad it definitely lacks in comparison to the original
I hope Rebirth sets up that Tifa is going to die, and that she has a new fate. But then stop on a dime and 180 the narrative by killing Aerith again and having her corpse mutate into JENOVA, just to spite us. It would be cruel, but it would be a moment to remember.
And its possible, because if Sephiroth knows about the future, he could knows that kill Tifa could brings him more benefits, like prevent that Cloud retrieves his original memories, avoiding that he can break away from his control. While that if Sephiroth spares Aerith, she won't return to the Planet, making her a lesser threat in the process.
