That's right. Good compositions sound good with any instruments. Today's game music cameos itself with pretty sounds embellishing mediocre compositions with impressive ambient sounds, but take those sounds away and you are left with sub-par compositions and progressions.
@@Mystwalker That has always been my rule of thumb when I compose melodies - they should sound good on any instrument, including things like the NES sound chip. This means that the core melody in itself is powerful enough, without being dependent on "pretty sounds".
There's a reason the first dialogue box most people will get in the game is "This is Cornelia, the city where dreams are woven." I'm playing the game now for the first time and it has such an inherently nostalgic vibe to it that games seldom capture nowadays. It's so simplistic in its nature in an almost innocent way.
Christmas 1990, I got two games in that years batch of presents. Dr. Mario was one, as a game the whole family could play, and this beautiful gem for me. I played this one like crazy, listening to this soundtrack brings back so many memories.
Got this when I was 6 in aug 1990 on my birthday, not knowing wtf I was doing lol. Wasnt till ff2 (ff4) came out and I beat that I went back and played ff1. First time I played it I think I got lost after I got the boat lol
Thank you so much for your video game soundtracks! Your excellent efforts bring me right back, allowing me to re-live my best memories from the past... well, many years; I often listen to your soundtracks and reflect. Looking forward to relaxing tonight after work and doing just that, in fact; whiskey in one hand, and PS3 controller in the other. Oh, and the bonus with this particular track is, the original FF for the NES is what began my (and many others') love affair with RPGs. I spent wonderful hours and hours playing this game, a welcome distraction after a long day at work. So again, thank you.
Dillon Sheil I've nicknamed that game draggin warrior. Because omg. Literally used my foot on my advantage controller and a paper towel tube for my sword and pretend fought the bad guys to deal with the boredom.
i dont know if this is weird, but im 14 and when i started playing this game, I could even feel the nostalgia of the game itself and i wasnt alive when it came out
1990: Includes 84 page Explorer's Handbook, Game World and Dungeon Maps, plus full color Monster Chart. 2014: Includes subscription form, and 5 page manual!!1 and be grateful you you cheapskate fans, we publishers are so damn generous.
Not the mention the 5 page manual will have a maximum of 2 pages on the actual game (and sometimes none). the rest is full of copy right and system care info.
.. if you're lucky to get the whole game in one go. These days you usually have to buy stuff piecemeal as DLC. That, or you can't win until you literally gamble for loot boxes. That's why just about the only money I've spent on games in the past year was for the SNES classic.
Working on my own 8BIT RPG, so I'm listening to some authentic tunes to help me focus. ;P Thanks for the upload, always a pleasure to hear these mixes.
First game that i ever played, and still today my most beloved game. Damn i miss the older age of Square, where they made amazing RPG's and quality games.
when the original team leaves, you get very different sequels of the same series from the same company. happens very often, sadly. most series were ruined like this.
Thank you for uploading the NES soundtrack all the others were off the remake. I finally decided to start my first Final Fantasy adventure the other day when I found a copy of FF1 on nes for 14$. The gameplay has a certain sort of charm to it, I also love the fact that you get to choose your characters right away. Wish me luck I hope I can finish it :D.
Awesome!! This is one of the games that is responsible for my gaming addiction lol thanks for doing all these cool soundtracks. I work from home so I will be listening to all of them in stereo! Sure beats mono that I heard these in originally!
I've always loved Garland's castle theme. First quest the game sets you on and it just creates such an eerily beautiful tone for the rest of the grand adventure that you are unknowingly about to embark upon. Truly a masterpiece of an RPG.
When you exit the menu screen when flying, the first second or so is without the propeller sound, then it comes in after the screen reaches full color.
Pretty good actually! I got a 98% on it. It didn't have graphics, but I implemented an xp system, spells, and shop to buy weapons and spells. It had a lot of rng elements in it to kinda replicate nintendo hard, but not that hard. :) This was all for my last year's comp prog course. Currently in ap comp prog.

i'm 40 now and hearing that swamp cave song 11:08 gave me endless anxiety because EVERYTHING poisoned you. The NES was the original Dark Souls and it would hurt you. It hurt me.
Lol I emulated the original NES version, almost unplayable the way it was coded. GBA version was much more forgiving (and the evasion stat actually worked!)
I know the covers to countless US releases had awful Western approximations of the original cover art, but man, there was just something about this cover that got me as a kid. The chipped and notched weapons, the floating palace suspended in the crystal orb...it stole my imagination. And that classic Final Fantasy font with the twin accented "F"'s...nothing will match Amano's art, but as a piece of fantasy art by itself, this cover is still great. And the game is amazing, too.
I remember wanting Super Mario Brothers 3 for Christmas, and instead got this. I could never pass the second boss because I couldn't figure out how to equip items. Now that I'm older I think I can figure it out :P The soundtrack is awesome though :D
That's funny, I think this game is 10x better then SM3 and I think it took me about 5 month's to beat. I missed a lot of school mornings because it kept me up late back then.

5:39 Matoya's Cave is one of the best songs on NES I've ever heard.
The composer created a prog rock band called Black Mages and they cover it with guitar!
She shows up in final fantasy 14 and the song plays during her parts...I cried a lil ngl
easily my favorite track in the game by far

Giordan Diodato nope, it was the last chance of squaresoft to not disband thats why they called it final fantasy

I still remember the feeling of how this first game opened my eyed to RPGs. Golden age of gaming, right there.
The Undersea Shrine and the Chaos Temple themes give me chills every time I hear them, no matter what version of the song it is.
If I ever get to heaven, I hope God plays the Final Fantasy intro theme. Gives me chills every time.

Played and completed this recently for the first time. The music gives it such a charm!
Floating Castle has always, and still does, creep me out. It's such a stark contrast from everything else in the game both visually and musically.
