      The progression is "octave independent". You could equally play the C major above or below the G major chord (in the key of C). I just like highlighting the C above the G because it's visually pleasing.

      Thanks! I will check it. Another question (lol) regarding voicings/tonality in chords, take an Eb Major chord: I noticed that you played it with the Eb octave on the left hand and then a G, Bflat, D, G octave on the right hand. I play it with the Eb octaves on the left, but I double the D (octaves) instead and keep the G & Bflat.
      Is there a particular theoretical reason that you voice the Eb major chord that way or is it just by choice?

  • @norakat

    I think one of the big turn offs for anyone learning to play music is doing things like ‘learning to play 2-5-1’ in every key before even appreciating some music they enjoy or even better - both recognize and enjoy; preferably a song they already know and like. Without that everything is like torture and meaningless.

    Why does the wikipage of a 2 5 1 progression says the following ?
    quote
    It is a succession of chords whose roots descend in fifths from the second degree (supertonic) to the fifth degree (dominant)
    unquote ;
    YOu are moving by fourths ?

    • @MangoldProject
      @MangoldProject  7 років тому +1

      Moving by a fifth DOWN is the same as moving by a fourth UP.
      So D to G to C (moving upward) is a motion by fourths.
      D to G to C (moving downward) is a motion by fifths.

    • @TheLazyClips
      @TheLazyClips 5 років тому

      There is no such thing as chord scale, there is a chord and a scale, separate beings, but a chord is about a combination of notes within a scale, and there are chords with 4 notes too. A scale has 7 notes or 8 if you count the root note twice (C to C for example). A triad(1-3-5 chord) has 3 notes but there are also chords like 1-3-5-7 so four notes. This is said with my limited knowledge so there is way more than what im telling you lol.

      My favorite example: The Beatles' "Yesterday" is an exercise in 2-5-1s. You can also just pick any jazz standard! It might be difficult to recognize at first because people use substitutions and funky voicings. Once we get to part C and you've seen how to "use" the 2-5-1 I will be able to really show you where it pops up.
