I didn’t buy gold. I invested all of my spare cash into overpaying on my mortgage. I have just finished paying it off and I am now mortgage free. Any spare money I have now, will go towards buying food with a long shelf life. I am also strengthening the physical security on my house.
I have a feeling that it may get very unstable here in the UK shortly.

Those calling stocks momentum a flunk aren't considering the long run. The companies themselves have not changed, it's the market that changed. Steady as it goes, and it'll regroup in weeks.

The markets will determine whether it is a crack up or deflationary bust. We have stagnation and high taxes on the low paid and middle class. It would be radical to go for a deflationary bust because it is a relatively unknown for the banks but they have already tried the inflation approach. Next inheritance tax raid maybe to fund the government. After all they are not going to opt for a smaller government.

Really this is a return to world normals of chaos and localized controls. The recent history was the imbalance.

We've been in a gigantic debt bubble and it's at probably greatly predicated on the fossil fuel boom, which is an abbormality as it is running out. Nate Hagens of The Great Simplification seems to think that way. He sees the credit bubble as a call on future energy availability and it might not be available. That would mean a collapse and as Greg Mannarino says that can lead to massive fall in population numbers that could survive. There would likely be chaos but it could still be managed in an ultra centralised way through the tech infrastructure, the WHO, WEF, etc.

I disagree that the problem in debasement is monetary money supply only but also years of fiscal holes. Basically the Government is spending more and more subsidies in order to keep the economy afloat. Because the money supply (under monetary pressure) has been too slow to grow due to higher fiscal spent. Despite a billions giveaway that was grabbed by Intel, they just smashed $7 billion record loss in foundry business alone. That's one example.

I know of some people who buy PM's then sell them when the price goes up, expecting to buy more when the price drops.
These people are playing a very dangerous game because while they might be lucky a few times they only have to be wrong once, and when that happens they will be devastated.
If you bought a gold mark in Weimar Germany in 1918 and sold it in 1919 for example, you would have increased your paper "money" x8 times, BUT you would never have the opportunity to buy ANY gold again and would probably end up destitute or worse.

When you talk about hyperinflation being an overnight psychological event, I don't think that's completely true at this time. You can already see signs of loss of faith in the US economy when you read and hear about terms like "doom spending" and "debt maxing" that demonstrates the early stages of cultural realization. Maybe the media records it as an overnight shift, but the signs are already here.
Gold is too ‘obvious’ as a store of wealth. Confiscation & making transactions illegal would obviously be a huge problem, & not unrealistic in a full collapse. The best value stores are those which go ‘under the radar’.
When we return to gold and silver money the citizens will have to be talked into paying for what the government plans to do. If the taxpayer does not agree with the government's plan they will not pay.

As someone with distant family tree relatives who were almost very successful at transferring New Jersey to a bartering system I say this:
How much gold for a box of toilet paper? How much silver for a gallon of gas? Are you going to be able to break and make change so easy? What if suddenly something you really need like say....toothpaste becomes suddenly more expensive? Is everybody around you going to be easy to work with? Where are you going to store all the gold and are you sure it can't get lost there?
It would be so great if economists would start working on a clear system of exchanges that benefits everyone and shortchanges none.
