Everyday I learn something new from my new found shoeboxers. I wish for someday to be able to meet all you wonderful and giving boxers. Our own little convention!
Not in Florida. I’m in Palm Desert (Palm Springs vicinity), California. I do have lots of family in Florida and visit them often. I’m originally from Cuba. Came to the US in the early 60s as a young child. If you Google Operation Pedro Pan you’ll learn about the children that came to the US alone without their parents. I’m one of these 14,000 kids. Lived in New York prior to moving to Los Angeles in 1976. Recently moved to the desert to enjoy retirement living and the discovery of the joy of shoe boxing!
Emily! You read my mind! I was gathering my information today to do a similar video but I think you’ve said it all very well! One of my recipients also said their favorite item was the photo. So precious right? Thank you for sharing your experiences! Some years I have heard from many snd other years only 1 or 2. It always rejuvenates me to keep going! So far this year I have 10 responses. All special in different ways.❤️
Thanks for sharing your experiences with shoebox recipients! Unfortunately, I still have yet to receive a response but I don't have any expectations. I agree it's not uncommon for people from poor countries to ask for money so I expect that most likely would happen with some shoebox recipients. And fyi, from what I understand, it's usually a parent/guardian asking for money, or the child being asked to do so by their guardian/parent. But it's so wonderful you got so many responses and who are very thankful for your shoeboxes/gifts.

I think I recall seeing on the Canadian OCC site to be cautious of the responses you may get as the people may ask for money. The exclusive email address is a good idea 👍 Those responses that you got are so precious ❤️
Thank you for sharing this Emily. I will keep the idea with occ email address in mind, because this year I will send so many more boxes. I always wonder if I miss an email in the spam box. I did have an email as well that said just hello, I had been befriended through facebook and last month a boy from Gambia followed me on IG. I thought he or one of his siblings may have received a box. I make my letters with Canvas (the free version) You can upload your own fotos and decorate then the letter. I write it in Spanish and English and I add all my possible contact information. How wonderful it is that you are emailing with some of them🙏
I have Canva too. That is how I make my thumbnails for UA-cam! That is a great idea. I didn’t realize you could make letters, or I guess I never thought about it. I may do that this year 😊
