That elevated this stream for me. I've recommended it to everyone I know but I fear, unless they've been in the whole journey, they won't appreciate it as much as I have.
Right! The journey is amazing. The moments of emotional ups and downs. The struggles in-between that also bring moments of comedy and levity. All that's missing a love story that isn't between the fans and Ray Shunshine themselves.
What Hornsent (NPC) meant: - Marika is hinted at having been created by the Hornsent (culture) as part of their practice of making Jar-Saints - She rebelled against them, gained divinity, and created the Erdtree & Scadutree - Marika sent her son Messmer (hinted to be Melina's brother) to massacre the Hornsent (culture) - Hornsent (culture and NPC) are hoping for vengeance, and believe Miquella will help overthrow Marika's order to make a world closer to what they want
that's putting it mildly. The Hornsent took everyone in the Shaman village including the children cut them apart shoved them into jars in the hopes to make a god and it worked. However in hindsight this was not a good idea as the god they created was reasonably pissed and sent her son to burn their people to ash and for some reason the Hornsent still claim to be the victims and Miquella being based off Griffith from Berserk is confirmation that he is pure evil, completely selfish and, power hungry
So actually you're saying they're the bad guys and the entire time they were complaining that a paladin passed through their land and purged all their screwed up villages and cults and they want revenge on the paladin and his army for not letting them do their horrible deeds?
@@chitt77 Those damn mesmer's lot! We were a peaceful and love seeking cult murdering and corpse defiling peacefully before they came around and took offense at our whole peaceful and love seeking ways!
Furnace visages are a limited resource, so naturally I didn’t use any of them. I killed all the armored golems with heft fire pots! Did I make things harder for myself? Absolutely! But I still got it done!
@@TheScienceBoy I disagree. It's optional for one so there isn't really any justification for being upset about the fight or mechanics. I like that it forces the player to engage with the crafting system but not in an overwhelming way. The fact that the boss only has 2 attacks it can do while you are on the ledge (fireball volley and jump + swing) and it only takes 5 great fire pots to beat also means it's one of the easiest bosses in the DLC. We saw that when Luke finally figured out the mechanics he managed to dunk 4 pots on the boss in between 1 attack.
Whereas others appear to be frustrated with your approach, I appreciate your persistence in these games. Reminds me of when Dark souls was just coming out, and me and my friends were clueless as to how you tackle certain bosses. We would deliberately not look anything up, because we wanted to figure it out ourselves, but we were dumb teenagers so we just kept running in full tilt until we won. It's a very nostalgic feeling to me.
Something I learned in my time of Elden ring (which I loved) Any way you defeat an enemy is a good way. Often I told myself that when spending hours chipping away while hiding. As long as it is fun that is what matters. (If not fun then spite works too).
Very unhappy as the tooth whip was encountered and read delightfully as I tried to finish the last of my breakfast. Lovely reading of it, I just wish I hadn't been eating :D
You have my complete sympathies Luke, fought both the furnace golems with metal legs but eventually I just gave up- kudos to you for your determination
I really enjoyed the progression from finding the "silly bear hat" to getting the rest of the set, then fighting the bear that inspired it all. 🎉 I'm hoping in the next video or two you'll put the entire set on and mess around with 'bear communion' (hopefully AoE roars).
I really feel bad for Luke when he struggles in these sections of the souls games. Not because he's struggling. Not because he's on the verge of actual insanity the whole way through. Because this is something he clearly loves, and like a Westaway to a Farrant after watching the 2003 Haunted Mansion movie I could only watch and say... "So this is what you like, is it?"
Just figured I'd chime in and say I've really been enjoying these longer episodes focused on exploration! My favourite part of these games is poking my head into different areas that catch my interest and seeing what's around, so I'm very glad you're sharing that with us as well and not just following the story path (to the degree that there is one) :)
Luke once said: "Elden Rings takes everything the Soulsborne games are famous for and cranks it up to a million." Including the storytelling which is beyond bananas and doesn't make sense no matter how many eyeballs in bolt paper you chow down.

The self inflicted struggle is real. He is going to scream at the sky when its winter lantern time. Also use the mogh/margit shackels to unblock spirirt springs
Thank YOU for sticking with it, Luke! A greatly entertaining vid as always despite the lowpoint, especially with the return of the introspective sololoquy. I just thought "the hopeful young man" had already been turned into "the wise older man" back in the days of the Orphan of Kos 😆
The non-spoiler version of what the Hornsent said (based upon what you know so far) - he doesn't care that Miquella was psychically roofieing them, he's hoping the Miquella will become a god, overthrow Marika and stop the persecution of his people by Messmer.
Just spend a full minute staring at the thumbnail, wondering if I have really not watched Luke in long enough for him to grow shoulder length hair. Only to realise it's the seat's headdress. 😂🙈
Fun tip; those stone-sealed spirit springs can almost universally be opened with Mohg or Margitt's Shackles if ya got em. Same with many of the chariot-killing mechanisms in the OG game catacombs. The long and boring of it is they have a spherical area of effect that can trigger traps, fire-breathing stone pole lift dealies, etc.
Congrats for killing that Furnace Golem. I noped out after a few attempts. I tragically do have enough self-regard to put that a-hole in my rear view mirror and never looked back.
24:26, actually no, the normal ones also did damage, 111 each time, mostly. I guess I'm lucky that I had the means to make furnace pots at this point, and more than 4 at a time.
You don't need to apologise for how good or bad you feel that you have performed, you make it fun with the edits regardless. I am slightly concerned by the video lengths creeping up and past an hour each, but I do still enjoy them even if it takes more of my Monday evening to watch than I'd expected.
21:15 similar experience with this golem. I just gave up on him and the other 2 that can only be defeated with the pots. The only enemies that kept roaming my save when I was done with the dlc
Luke, do you never simply just say things for the simple pleasure of saying them? Hornsent's channeling his inner half-orc bard. Albeit a little oddly.
It's not my fault they never gave us a poison spell. I need those thin beast bones to proc poison before I start throwing rotten breath at them. Seriously, some real aggressive bosses have been done in by that damage whilst they were owning me. You can take a guess at who, mainly so I don't spoil anything.
You don't have to get off Torrent to throw the hefty pots, so you can stay mobile to avoid the fireballs and take them out pretty quickly. You can also throw hefty pots into the heads of normal ones you've downed as they're getting back up! You have to be quick, but if you do it right you can take them out in like half the time. Also, unrelated but you can use Mohg/Morgott's shackle to unseal spirit springs and lower/raise flamethrower towers in catacombs. The range is pretty huge too.
Luke if you do Count Ymir’s quest you can get a cool spirit summon by reuniting Jolan (the Sauron knight lady) with other knight Anna, somewhere. Don’t know exact details. She can also help with Messmer.
I fought and beat one furnace golem....after that slog of a fight I never fought another one again. Myself and torrent just leg it past them. Hats off to you for your determination.
FYI (for other people as I assume Luke as already finished the game), you can unlock the Spirit springs by hitting the actual spring with Margit's Shackle.
"Arugula the bear" I genuinely can't tell if this is another case of Luke being terrible at remembering names (see: every oxventure) or if he's being facetious. It's probably both, both is good XD
