I completely agree with you. In a lever gun, semi auto or bolt action the 35 Remington was and still is an excellent choice where bottleneck cartridges are approved for hunting. The 35 Remington also has the ability to shoot up to a 220 gr bullet for short range larger game such as animals up to Elk size out to 50+ yards. I just saw 1 of those Alaskan shows where a native American shot a moose at about 50-75 yards with a Remington model 81. I'm guessing that gun was a 35 Remington. While the 35 Remington can be loaded to better ballistics with proper bullets (in appropriate rifles for the bullet chosen) it has been eclipsed by the 350 Legend. The 350 Legend has 2 big advantages over the 35 Remington. The 350 Legend is chambered in the AR-15 which is becoming the most popular rifle available. The 350 Legend bullets are not only pointed but also designed to expand at a lower velocity than the old cup and core bullets in cartridges like the 35 Remington. Many of these new bullet designs will reliably expand at as little as 1500 fps while the old style cup and core bullets from the 35 Remington get questionable expansion at less than 1700 fps. I would like to see more the of the LeverEvolution type bullets loaded in the old cartridges and have them designed to still expand down to 1500 fps but hold together at close range. This can be accomplished with a partition design or a dual lead alloy design.
That's a excellent comment! I agree 100% thanks so much for watching and contributing to the comment section. Comments like this one is why I make videos!
@@nicks2581 I think the 350 Legend would make a great lever action round but unfortunately it was designed with more pointed styled bullets which can be a problem under recoil in a tube magazine. Were the bullets round nosed , a wide flatnose or pointed soft polymer it could work out fine. It would also work well in a rifle like the Browning BLR or Henry Long Ranger which is basically a copy of the Browning. Both guns use a detachable mag rather than a tube mag.
I have been hunting with my Marlin 336c .35 rem. since 1972 I like it alot , and wish I could find it in AR platform,.. .350 legend is as close a round that I can find.
I have the same gun! I love it! Yes the 350 legend would be the equivalent to build on the AR platform. They are pretty much the same ballisticlly. I don't think you or the deer would ever know the difference between the two.
There's really no reason the 35 Remington couldn't be chambered in an AR-10, it's no longer than a 243 or 308 and its rimless so it should work. The problem is it's hard to find ammo for so it wouldn't be practical unless you're a reloader.
You are correct most all modern cartridges are based off a old one (parent cartridge) if you consider the improvements in powders, primers, bullet construction, and bullet designs also the fact that modern rifles can handle alot more pressure it really shows how impressive how old cartridges really are.
@tonycanniffe2360 yes sir! The 6mm imo is better than the 243. The 6mm rem, 280 rem, 260 rem are some good examples of how Winchesters marketing was genius compared to remington lol
Well this is interesting 🤔 35 rem and 350 legend that’s very specific to say the least. Not very many even know what 35 Remington is. As for 350 legend this cartridge is really only popular in states that require straight walled stuff. I happen to have both myself so this is definitely worth a watch to me. Oh I want to add I personally think 350 legend is better then 300 blackout. People will tell me I’m wrong but if you look at them together and pit them against each other. You will see the 350 legend wins they will say oh 300 black is perfect for subsonic stuff. Yeah is it well so is 350 legend then they will say oh well it’s a thumper pift you think 350 legend isn’t????? Idk if people would just look at 350 legend like they do 300 black. I think they would see it in a different light. Gosh I keep adding stuff to my comment after I think I’m done. Anyhow if your into reloading for 350 legend. I think a good place to look for data would be 357 maximum. The 350 legend and 357 maximum are truly the same except the 357 maximum has a rim. Actually the 357 maximum has just a tad bit lower pressures in it’s data
You are right on. I agree with you about the blackout. It has its purpose in which it was designed to do and it does it really really well. It was designed to be a suppressed SBR for close range combat. Not a deer rifle lol. Although it does have a spot for hunting applications it's not going to be the best. But I've seen it take alot of deer so I guess the numbers on paper don't always matter. Lol I've always been a big fan of the 357 max and that is what lead me to buying a 350 legend. It's basically rimless 357 max on an AR platform. What's not to like? But when it comes to the deer woods I'm taking the 35rem over the legend!
The 35 Rem has nothing at all with the 30-40 Kraig and the 30-40 Kraig is a cartridge of larger diameter + longer length. I own a rifle in 35 Rem and own 30-40 Kraig cartridges so hold them together and they have nothing in common.
The 35 remington was based off of a rimless 30-40 case Just like many parent cartridges back in the day they were extensively modified to make a new cartridge. You are correct the end result of the 35 remington looks nothing like a 30-40 but in the design phase it did.

My own rifles for both of these cartridges, I love both they work great on deer. I tend to use the 350 legend more because ammo is easier to come by.
That is a great point! Ammo availability! The legend most definitely wins that category.

How is 35 remington recoil vs 350 vs 360 buckhammer
What was the grain weight of both cartridges?
170 for the legend and 200 for the 35 rem. But you can work up loads for what grain you want to use. A 180 grain in 35 rem is a good weight.
Why don’t you test the 180 grain legend against a 180 grain 35? That comparison isn’t even fair with a 30 grain difference
@Dartfreak75 i just left a message. Can you answer it when u get time
Have you seen the new 400 legend? Its supposedly the best of both 350 legend and 450 bushmaster lol but ive not messed with it at all
Yes I have and I wish I would have held out on the 350 and built one of them instead. But I have a 450 bushmaster so I don't need one. Lol
Lol hell yea I been thinking about building a 8.6 blackout that seems like a wicked ass round
@danielodham9511 it's very unique! I'm a fan of the 338 bullet family so that alone caught my attention with it.
@@danielodham9511cost wise and ammo availability wise, you would be better off using .350leg as your subsonic build.

The .30-40 Kraig shoots a .30 cal bullet; not sure what you mean by 'cartridge of larger diameter' unless you mean just the case diameter?
