Truly terrific by both parts, even though it's 10 minutes long, not a single second is wasted. Your Kid A FTB was worthwhile and I wish you all a happy 20 year Kid A anniversary!
Wow. I am a HUGE fan of both Radiohead, Björk and Thom Yorke. Thom and Björk are my 2 favorite musicians of all time. This is awesome. Dude, i love this.
Very impressive. Have you done “Sit Down, Stand Up” yet? I love the keys on that one too and how live Thom jumps up just in time to grab the mic stand to sing ‘the raindrops’
Taka’s using the Korg Kaoss Pad (a multi-fx unit and sampler with XY touchpad control)! I’m using the Nord Piano 2 (Rhodes electric piano sound) with hammer action keys!
Thanks! Taka’s whammy is affecting the pitch of his samples of my vocals, and my Whammy is on the Rhodes piano to create some extra sparkle at the beginning and bridge!
The Korg Kaoss pad allows you to record phrase samples, so Taka is recording bits of my vocals and playing them backwards and forward using the X-Y screen, and then the output of the Kaoss runs through his guitar effects pedalboard so he can further tweak them (with the Whammy for example)!
I'm not sure if the video is live but I loved the audio mix, brilliant job. I was thinking how much instructive it would be for a musician to go that deep into Radiohead. Could you let us know the name of the device you use for these weird vocal chop loops? And is there any digital device or plug-in you know that could create similar (if not the same) effects for vocal?
The vocal chopping is done using a Korg Kaoss Pad, the same way Jonny does it live! The Kaoss pad is a multi-fx unit with phrase sampling capability and has a unique X-Y touchpad control. It’s a fairly unique effect but there are probably some similar plug-in emulations (Logic Pro’s new “Remix FX” plug-in comes to mind). The vocal chopping done in the album version was mostly likely done manually by cutting and splicing/reversing audio regions in Pro Tools
@@JoeEdelmann3 Thank you Joe. Manually cutting and reversing might be difficult because there are lots of random pitch changes as well :) I read years ago that Nigel used Autotune too much in kid a and amnesiac - especially in creating packt like sardines and pp revolving doors. I use Ableton Live and will check out a plugin I can use for similar effects :)
People who've only ever heard EIIRP on record and never seen it performed live well be wondering what that 1st 2 mins was about. Beautiful intro by the way (and the rest of the song great too) - better than Thom's version: ua-cam.com/video/KVvO4mPoZiA/v-deo.html
Great stuff! as always! Have you ever considered covering stuff by The Smiths? Radiohead themselves have covered them (ua-cam.com/video/9Divn9jOEkg/v-deo.html) and they are also a huge influence on Interpol as well
Hey everyone! Be sure to check out the full Kid A tribute, premiering on Taka's channel after this video! ua-cam.com/video/psw4tgsVNrM/v-deo.html
Who else loved the Unravel intro?

I love how at the end the band walks off stage one by one, including Jonny, leaving Jonny alone with his effects pedals

Radiohead is the best band in the entire galaxy, and you, Joy & Taka, are the best performers. Keep it up guys, because you really have a great talent
The only thing wrong here is that you don’t have a million subscribers yet

Gutsy and well done 👏👏👏

Nice!

consummate pros
This is awesome! What's going on with all the Whammy pedal switching on and off?
Thanks! Taka’s whammy is affecting the pitch of his samples of my vocals, and my Whammy is on the Rhodes piano to create some extra sparkle at the beginning and bridge!
Me encanta 💜
Does that nord have hammer action keys? I want one so bad!
It does! They are great!
Your partner is fluffymomo
Did you track the keys and vocal simultaneously? Bravo, Sirs.
Yep! Thanks!
@@JoeEdelmann3 really pushed the tune along, thanks for your dedication to the craft.
Unravel by "Bjork" ☺️👍
LEMON
Stunning as always dude!
What's the song in the intro?
Bjork - Unravel!!
how did you manipulate the piano with pedals after recording it?
Hey could you sorta explain how you did the vocal sampling? I’ve been looking online and haven’t had much luck

Where is the intro from?
Bjork’s “Unravel”!!
Very nice! Is this your own interpretation of the song or is this some sort of live version?
It’s based on a live version from 2012! (Where they opened with Bjork’s Unravel)
