This is a re-upload of a now-deleted, fan-created music video that impacted me deeply. I hope it does the same for you.
A poignant comment from the original video:
"We all try to control our little worlds.
We all come up with plans for our future, and we try to stay on track with those plans.
But life just happens, and it can blow everything we thought our life would be out of the water in a blink.
Nothing is ever really in its right place.
Yet, we never stop trying to put things 'right.'
We pick up pieces of our old, broken plans and we try to build new ones, over and over, totally at the mercy of our own chaotic little worlds."

That kinda reminds me of a moment in which I was dealt a matter of poor judgement by judges. When I ran track in my younger days I can remember winning a race and was awarded the wrong ribbon. Not only was the ribbon incorrect, but it was for 3rd place on top of that. I looked at the judge, and he looked at me with a shrug, accompanied with a frown, and then I just stared at the ribbon. I didn’t protest the rendering, object or even correct the person. I actually held on to the ribbon, displayed it, etc for a while. Ultimately, I just threw it in the trash because no one cared.

I frame-by-framed it and the way they run and react to it is done really well. The arc of the run, the facial expressions / turn of mother's head. It's hard hitting alright. Being critical, the kids arm disappears in an unexpected way, but works perfectly at full pace.

Most people don't want to think about the harsh realities of life more than they have to. That's why heavy, thoughtful things like this will never be mainstream. However, we should celebrate the normies not wanting to be part of this.

It's astounding isn't it? I've watched it a couple of times over the years myself. It's quite rare to have a video match the profundity of Radiohead's music, but this actually excels the impact of the song. There is no competition when it comes to which medium is the best for creating art. It doesn't matter what you use. What matters is the inspiration behind the art. And I can't help but think this was made by someone who has suffered themselves or knew someone close to them who suffered in the same way our protagonist in this video suffers.
      It's devastatingly good! (beyond tragedy)
It reminds me of a scene from the series Six Feet Under when Brenda is talking about how we have the word 'Widow/Widower' for someone who loses their spouse, we have the word 'Orphan' for someone who loses their parents, but she asks: "What is the name for someone who loses their child? I guess that is just too awful to be given a name."
Dedicate 5 seasons of your time to Six Feet Under if you haven't already. My favourite series ever.
      With love
      Dully

@@DulceAllanLobo It's something that speaks to the reality of that horribly tragic beauty that makes life. Even one little circumstance can ruin an entire existence, something I think about every day. Leaving work too early or too late, stopping to pick up a penny. The moment you stop to hold the door open for someone at a gas station. Your shoe coming untied. To know and acknowledge that everything hangs in the balance every day, and we just go through it so often without a blink, without even appreciating the precious scale of every moment. This video really brings all that to the surface for me.

I had waited for him to get off his swing shift and we took off in the middle of the night to make the 8 hour trip. We listened to mostly my son’s music and he was into Radiohead. This beautiful song immediately connected with me as we drove through the night on the deserted New Mexico desert and the melancholic feeling of loneliness yet closeness to family that this song inspires. 0:50 protagonist for the first time steps back
0:52 tries to jump away from problems as a teen
0:54 after the jump, protagonist meets deep, unknown void bipolar from the sunny day pool weather
1:01 floats back up, met with drugs, parties, beatings, generally disoriented in life
1:24 floats back up again, but this time in a swimming pool at a gym; hinting protagonist got his life back together
2:04 we see protagonist running for the first time, metaphor for responsibility as he now has a family he needs to take care of
    2:17
2:28 transition from white to black clothing, possibly signifying a shift from a blissful life to an impending nightmare
2:42 protagonist walks, but in a very slow, depressed manner; disoriented in life again, but vastly different from his teen years
2:58 we see protagonist run again, very acutely telling us that no matter what shit happens, you have to move on and you can't keep yourself there forever
4:02 even after decades, protagonist reminisces back. unsure about this one, but I believe he's blaming himself about her death; about how she would have never died had she never saw him, or he's thinking about how beautiful she was when he first saw her and how they had a happy life even though it was cut short.
I would like to think the latter, but there are two colors in my head.

The song gripped me from the moment I heard the intro on Rick Beato’s 20 best keyboard intros.
Somehow this song is in the category of Mahler’s 3rd symphony for me -it is somehow the protoplasm of life and some primordial soup. And it makes me want to vomit at the same time, because it is the pain of loss and what could have been and yet what always is. I can’t stop listening to it. The video I think captures this.

I’m not one to cry, ever really, but the first time I watched this video and every time since that I’ve revisited it, it has moved me to tears. It gives me chills, disturbs me with its message of inevitability, and yet is somehow cathartic at the same time. That use of perspective is everything. • @DulceAllanLobo
    @DulceAllanLobo Рік тому +11

This is astounding! I've watched it a couple of times over the years and struggle to get to the end without my eyes getting damp.
    With love
    Dully
