Down our way! You're always welcome to call in for a brew if you're passing...and if you're camping on the west side of Kinder, you're welcome to park out side our house😊
That film brought back memories! I have only walked in the Goyt area once or twice, and Shining Tor just once - all many years ago. But when you reached Windgather that really rang a bell. I don't remember it, but I think we must have climbed there once. I noticed the heather was looking really colourful there - it seems to be man especially good year for it everywhere. Lovely holiday, then back to the reality of British weather. Thanks Chris.
Hello Michael. Yes, my companion mention Windgather and nearby as a popular climbing area. I agree, the heather has been magnificent, as has the wimberry crop.
Nice one Chris, good to see you back. Hope you and your family enjoyed ʻO Hawaiʻi. Looking forward to your Autumn and Winter Adventures. Thanks for sharing this. R
Thanks Ron. Hawaii was just awesome mate. It really was the holiday of a lifetime. I suffer the post-holiday blues even after a night in Blackpool, so getting over this one has been particularly bad! Bye for now, Chris
Nice video Chris...first time I've come across your channel. Lovely scenery and I really like the little snippets of information as you go. Thanks for sharing 👍
Nice work again Chris with some stunning colours in the footage. You should develop a geology app for numpties like me, so I can learn more when I'm out. 😂 Shame about the clough. One day you'll find you are a landowner, but please allow us serfs to access it? 😊 Thanks again, Paul
Great idea re the geology app but being a technological numbskull Paul, I've no chance 🙄. Yes, the clough was pretty crap. there is a Jep Wood just round the corner from me too and that's not the best either....😭
Great video Chris. I had watched Des's video prior to viewing yours, so it as good to see it from your perspective. Despite the rain, it looked like you both had a great time. Loved the surrounding scenery in this mate. 👍
More youtube gold Chris. Too many funny moments to comment on. Top probably was , "there is Jodrell bank, disappearing into the gloom " - just as Des appears from the gloom of his bivi. Well Chris,I Hope he wasn't ! Seriously though, lots of great memories from my youth brought back on this one. One of which was a weekend staying in a blizzard at windgather cottage when I was in the scouts. All the pipes froze. At about 2 am I vomited about 2 pints of chicken supreme and blackcurrant jelly all over the dorm floor. But the scouts I lead have executed 2 am shenanigans many times so balance is restored.
How do Dave. I didn't realise you were familiar with this area, being a north-eastern chap, etc. Is Windgather Cottage still in existence as a scouting venue? Chicken Supreme and blackcurrant jell sounds like a winning combination 🙄😉. My last few camps have been a catalogue of bad weather, ticks and midges. I'm not a huge fan of autumn and winter but at least my next few camps should do away with the last two. Hope you are well mate. ATB, Chris
@@ChrisJB grew up in Staffordshire Chris, so the peak was hill heaven for me. Was a very young member of the North staffs mountaineering club that used to meet in Leek on a Wednesday night at the Dyer arms. I could save £2 out of my pocket money and get 4 pints of beer and a pack of pork scratchings.
The Goyt Valley is a treasure. Go there when the Rhododendrons are blooming. Errwood Hall is quite sad. Why did they demolish it? The views along the Shining Tor ridge are lovely. It’s a shame there’s so few places to wild camp. You can camp a few hundred metres south west of the trig point on Burbage Edge on the other side of the valley near a shepherd’s shelter, which is one of the few places that is secluded away from paths. The whole area is worth exploring. You can park on Macclesfield Old Road in Buxton. The other area to explore is Combs Moss north of Buxton. ATB.
Yep, I was very taken with the area. It seems many of the rhododendrons are being removed as they are rather invasive. I think the aim is to replace with native species. I've been looking at Combs Moss on the map. Des is very familiar with it and it's definitely on the agenda. Best wishes, Chris
Nicely put together Chris as per usual. Dave here from your MiL's pub quiz. You need to pack a 600mm lens to better pick out those distant hills 🤣 I'll hand Doreen some authentic noodles so you can up your camp food game.
How do Dave and thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Whilst not quite 600mm I do have a 300mm lens which I occasionally used to take. I soon realised it was a big mistake with the weight and gave that up! Hope the quizzing is going well 😎. Bye for now, Chris
The sweep of view you get from that position is quite amazing, from Pendle Hill, aross to Winter Hill, the Welsh Mountains, not forgetting good old Blackstone Edge of course. As for Clee Hill, I can quite believe it's visible from there. If you are ever down that way, it gives you a fantastic view of the Welsh borders and the Ludlow area. My grandmother used to live in Worcestershire and we would go up there occasionally.
Hello Tim. Yes, it's a tremendous viewpoint. I really fancy walking in Shropshire. I love Ludlow and fancy hills like Caer Caradoc and The Stiperstones. Definitely on my radar.
Hang on a minute, evey time you're out its peeing it down 😂 Great video the Goyt Valley is a olace I keep meaning to get to but always end up beggaring off some where else. Looks a really pleasant spot. Cheers David 👍
Aye, more rain Dave....though merely spitting a trifle compared to our recent outing 😉. I've done a camp near Alport since then and managed to find some rain that wasn't in the forecast. I think I'm jinxed. 😭
Great to see you out with des Chris. It's always a treat to get together with like thinkers. Ha, the the woodlands it seems are better than the Cloughs there. That's something on your way up I suppose. A wind and wet one up there - both had to retreat into your tents, which probably wasn't the plan - another time. You did have the daddy long legs for company though. Ha ha! Well, not a great nights sleep but a reasonable decent on that path. I agree love the name of that hill 'windgather.' All in all not as hoped but good finishing up at the church there. See you both out on another maybe. All the best. Mark
How do Mark. It was good to finally meet up with Des. It had been in the offing a good while but as if often the case, trying to coincide a mutually convenient day isn't always easy. Still, we got there in the end. I've been a bit unlucky with the weather on camps of late and considering this is summer, it doesn't bode well for the months ahead. The daddy long legs have been a feature of a subsequent camp too, plus a particularly unpleasant incident with some of the worst midges I've encountered outside of Scotland. The bites I received were terrible. I suppose that is one good thing about autumn and winter, I shouldn't encounter any of those for a while. Bye for now, Chris
@@ChrisJB Hey, yeah it is tricky making that connect but you made it happen. No, winter is looking wet and cold - perhaps it will be perfect though eh? Here in NZ, we have rock formation like that and it's due to uplift, where an earthquake has uplifted the land and tilted it to the east or west, In the past earthquakes, the land has tilted up to 9m.
