I just got a really old drone that barely stays up for 10 minutes and im trying to get into flying drones and doing drone videoography. A new drone or a nicer one would be so awesome!
I think I know why you weren't able to stay in optical flow mode. On pg 17 of the manual, it says that the maximum flight altitude for optical flow mode is 6 meters, so when you were indoors it worked fine, but outdoors, it reverted to GPS mode as soon as you climbed above 6 meters!

Do you have to have Internet to use the app? Does it work with data? Bluetooth? I'm wondering how useful one of these drones would be in a survival situation. Something you can carry in your pack and if you're lost you can send it up 100 ft and see what's around, find trails, etc.

No, I never was able to figure it out. I believe it started to work when I turned the drone on inside (which doesn't make much sense as you probably would not try and use active track indoors). I saw some other videos of people using the feature so I'm not sure what I was doing wrong or if the feature just wasn't working on that particular model.
Hs175d would be great but be grateful for any one of them

Working on FAA 107 HS 175 looks like fun to fly.
It's a great drone that has a lot of similar functions to DJI drones!
When I am flying a new drone I always attach a apple airtag
It makes the walk in a prickly field easier

You do not need the Internet to use the apps. It does work with data and you do need Bluetooth to connect to them!
