    I was a huge fan of Justin For a while even though I do not believe in killing our chickens. I had to stop following him years ago when he bragged about putting a live chicken in a pen with hogs and watched it get eaten alive. He literally bragged about it being shredded to pieces because he didn’t like the attitude of the bird. That’s why he subjected it to a brutal death. Everyone else on his page follows him never cared about this but I cannot believe the lack of empathy. I also don’t believe that it’s psychologically OK to allow his children to slaughter so many animals at such a young age is exposing them to a solid lack of empathy towards the active killing.
    I still cannot get over what he did to that chicken and how he bragged about it on his channel years ago it just eats me up inside. I do love your chicken coop and It looks like you’re going to raise your chickens respectfully.

    Very helpful video. We purchased this setup a year ago also and found the low height a real burden. Too hard to bend down and clean. Ugh. Didn't want to spend anymore upgrading so put the coop in a large 10 x 12 run. Removed the low run. We have 7 clucks and the original run just wasn't big enough. We do let our clucks free range too. In addition, if you have a rooster, as we do, it's just not enough room for them (hens) to find their own space when they need a break from him. Just some food for thought to consider since it's a very expensive purchase. Quality is truly the best though and customer service is phenomenal.

    good video. Same problem down under with rats getting in. They should have a smaller cage wire option for those who have this problem.
    We have foxes big time in Australia (introduced) and this coop was my only safe option really to have a portable, easy clean set up. I am 67 and maintain an acre myself so it's got to be easy.
    I have 2 large blue laced red Wyandottes (1 rooster). Big birds and 2 is enough for me. I use them to till my garden. 1 egg a day is fine. Important to check local ordinance re roosters which I am allowed to have one. Thanks for taking the time to film this.

    Do you have any tips on how to get them to learn to go into the coop on their own when the sun goes down?

      Josh, we started with just one of these cams and liked it enough we got 3 more and then purchased the solar panel for each one. That way we didn't need batteries or anything else. I have added an SD Card to each so that I can record both for fun You Tube clips as well as security when I am away or just want to if the chickens and bees are doing well. You can do some searching and find that many of the cams on Amazon can be linked up via the same exact application. I manage all of my cams from my phone. Let me know if you have more questions!

    Here in the states we can call EGLU owners provided from the company to answer questions about the coop and I have not had one return call so I will ask you. I am concerned if I don't get out early enough to clean under the roost, the chickens will walk through poop to go in to lay their eggs. I have had chickens and I know their poop does not go through those bars without leaving some along the way. How do you deal with that?

    • @shellijury7288
      @shellijury7288 Рік тому

      I’m also interested to know more about the roosting plate vs actual roasting bars.
      Seems like the chickens will just be sitting in poop all night since poop doesn’t necessarily fall thru slats.
      @moonwoodhomestead Would you give more info regarding this?

      So glad you liked it! I used 1/4 19gauge hardware cloth. We have not had any issues at all since we did this. It's a bit of a process getting it on there (just getting it cut and such) but was really worth it to me.

    Thanks for the great review. 2 questions ... we are located about an hour south of Tampa.
    How does the Eglu do in FL rain? Does the coop stay fairly dry?
    How is the ventilation? Does it manage heat/moisture in the coop during the summer? (We plan to put it in a shady spot)

    • @MoonWoodHomestead
      @MoonWoodHomestead  3 роки тому

      Hey Jeremy, great question! So we are now in our second summer and things are great. The coop gets hit from about 12-4 but we also have the birds able to range outside of the Eglu run. I'd say in a shaded area it would do just fine. The venting is not bad at all and it has held up great. The only thing that has deteriorated over time is the green tarp over the run and that just from so much sun exposure and rain in two years. I might consider adding a small and different tarp but otherwise very happy.

      @@MoonWoodHomestead We have a nice big scrub oak that the coop can sit under to provide shade. We've been looking for something that is easy to clean, meets our local ordinance that the coop must be moveable, has decent ventilation and can deal with driving rain. It was hard to find all these things in a single pre-fab coop. The Eglu checks all of the boxes for our needs. Glad to hear it has held up well.

    For the auto door on the side, did you have to cut a square in the run? Like did you have to damage the the run to install the auto door? Thanks.
    As well as the run, your chickens are out in your yard as well. Do you think it would be ok to have 4 chickens just in the run?

    • @MoonWoodHomestead
      @MoonWoodHomestead  3 роки тому +1

      Thats a great question! Yes you do have to use some wire snips and cut a square out as it will show you in the directions for the Autodoor.
      As for keeping birds just in the run itself I think you could do that but I'd recommend small or medium sized birds so they have the most amount of room.

    • @neshead3099
      @neshead3099 3 роки тому

      @@MoonWoodHomestead mind me asking how much it cost you in the states? It's looking like close to 1200 Euro for coop with 9 foot run and 1 auto door where I am.

    • @MoonWoodHomestead
      @MoonWoodHomestead  3 роки тому +1

      @@neshead3099 That sounds about right. The thing to keep in mind is this doesn't wear and tear like most other prefab coops. After a year if I were to clean it out you'd think it was like it was day 1 (minus the hardware cloth lol)
