I’ve got a Vornado fan and just purchased the Jet Black fan after comparing it with the Wahoo one. For me the JB Fan is the best fan I’ve tested and used. Well worth the money and a million times better than a standard fan or 10!
Thank you Shane. After seeing your video on Jack Black products. I went out and bought the Trainer Tray which great rather than putting the Apple TV and Jet Black Fan Remote. The Fan is great and Value for Money
5:17 This ia a BIG surprise to me: the fan at max speed is producing wind of speed 26km/h. So now I understand why I feel much more cooked at home: when my fan reaches max speed it means I'm at or above Z4. Outside I'd be approaching 38-40 km/h. Gigantic difference, most likely I need a 2nd fan. Cheers👍👍
Amazon USA has a Sharper Image FLY 01 fitness fan w/ remote for $90 USD. The FLY 01 can rotate for better positioning than fixed legs and looks like it might be a much better deal than the JetBlack fan.
The fan looks really nice, i bought the Vacmaster AM1202R tho 2 weeks ago, and its fantastic tbh. Dont need more wind, having it on Stage 1 for almost everything. I own a Jetblack Volt Smarttrainer, if i saw this earlier...maybe i would have bought it =)))
I just installed a thick foam mat under the JB fan and used some excess foam mat to raise the front up. Compared to the wooden floor the fan noise seems to have decreased.
I use a remote control pedestal fan that cost $89 from eBay and has worked really well for the last 3 years I've had it. Not controlled by the trainer but I simply set it to one of three speeds and it keeps me cool. Plus it's higher so the air hits my upper body and head more.
I have the fan and tray and like them. I have found that with the fan in front of the front tire the tray blocks some wind. I'm going to try to flip it upside down and position it like you have it on the side of the tire. I like using the tray to hold my fan remote, phone, and a towel.
Got one of the fans and the trainer tray during their TDF sales. The fan is brilliant and worth every cent. The tray is ok but its a bit close to the bars in my case but ok for easy zone 2 rides.
Just received and set up my Treanor table and it is just as good and even better than your review. Thanks for the great review and I’m looking forward to using this jet black table for years to come. Wish we could get the fan here in the United States, but still says out of stock.
Made my own version of the trainer tray a few years ago as they weren’t easily available in the UK. It’s been great and good to see the legit version going more mainstream.
The fans and tiny tray actually made me get creative. I use a shop fan that does the trick for 200 less I can use a power tool battery or plug in. No remote but really that’s fine. The tray. I now use the Mac so no need for it. I can swipe around control from phone and go back to companion app simply. Cause at the end of the day cycling kit is expensive. And a lot doesn’t match in quality.
I really like the idea of the trainer tray, I have a garmin mount connector on my stem tube. This will be great for my Zwift companion app on my mobile.
Fan looks really good and hopefully would be better than the two stand ones I have at present. Am guessing it would be better when streaming as-well due to it being at floor level and further away from the mic arm 🤔
Fan looks like a genuine cheaper competitor to the outrageously priced Wahoo Headwind and Elite Aria ones, fingers crossed JetBlack licence it to Zwift or someone else for sale in other territories like UK/EU where they themselves don't sell. Would be great if it were licensed to Zwift as a rebrand to twin with the Zwift Hub, that'd put the fairer price amonst the greedy pigeons! ....and, ooh, do I spy a TrueTrainer on test?? I hope so!
Love the idea of the tray, I'm not following on how to get your Garmin Edge on there as well, with the two screws underneath. What type of mount fits those two screw holes to then have your Edge out in front of it? Thanks
fyi to anyone judging the SPL test of the fans: because spl volume is logarithmic, every increase of 3db is the equivalent of doubling the volume, so the jet black is more than twice as loud as the headwind.
There should be more knife tests! Also, it looks like the small tablet tray is still sold out until 2024. Hard to believe there aren't any copycats offering a similar accessory.
Copycats aren't dumb, they always look for high margin items with a minimum volume to target because they know they will get shut down eventually. If only a 1000 of these sell, it isn't worth their time.
My first thought when I saw the tray was whether the bike computer mount is up to it, a few of them have broken for me with just a Wahoo Roam attached, without the mount having hit anything.
I like the flat feet of the trainer table. Too many trainer tables have tripod style feet - the angles and braces stop one from being able to get the tray close. Their US store has a much higher price - $295 plus on back order. The Zwift store has the $149 price.
I got my trainer tray (and a wall mounted wheel hanger) from Foothill Products, a few years ago. Not sure who copied who but it looks identical to this one.
Question: this is related to JetBlack but not to the fan sorry. Have you ever experienced a drop in power reading form a trainer when the resistence is increased (ie: when going uphill while using an app such as zwift)?
I have the fan and wasn't very impressed because although it is shaped to cover a vertical area it seems just to hit my torso. I will try to reposition it again but as of now my it seems my Honeywell HT 908 was just as good and less noisy for $38 USD
I don’t suppose you know how wide the legs of the table are at their widest point? I’m a bit space constrained but like the look of the table! If they’re the same or narrower than the KICKR legs fully extended then I’m good :-)
No. They haven't even given me a good reason why I've been ignored by their company after many years of having a great relationship with them. Now they're not even replying to my emails. I'm disappointed for them.
Yeah that is not a good move from them@@gplama . So many people aren't going to go near it without a Llama lab test and by you showing how good it is (as DCR did) I'm sure it would be an easy win for them. It's just the price thats the sticking point. I've messaged them on the socials like others so its disappointing to say the least.
If you want a budget Fan, YOU want a vornado smart. My vacuum cleaner is more silent then the JetBlack one. Double thumbs up for easily put 1100 watt on the pedals. Sorry to say that but a 4 step fan is the cheapest hardware you can get on the market. Sale it for 149 is a bit scary.
The other generic trays found on Amazon have water bottle holder indents. Nothing worse than putting your bottle down and having it tip off onto the floor mid ride.
True Budget Indoor setup: Lasko High Velocity Fan $50USD Any Tool Tray ~$120USD Optional: Remote outlet plug to use with fan ~$15 USD Total: between $170USD and $185USD

I guess I have a different definition of "budget". I have an industrial shop fan in my bike room that I paid $50 for and it puts out way more wind than these trainer specific fans. Yes the footprint is slightly bigger and it has no remote, but come on, do you really need a remote control for your fan? I did have a trainer table years ago, but as cheap as tvs are now, you can buy a rather large tv and just run an HDMI cable from a laptop to the tv and run zwift from the laptop while watching the tv. The tiny tray thing seems like a good idea, but $50 for a little piece of plastic is ridiculous.
Smart fans are overrated, a remote and controlling the speed manually is perfect. Heck I usually leave those at one setting and not touch it for the rest of the workout.
I have two Laskos. The heads pivot through 270°. And with a claimed flow rate of 375 cubic feet/min and an exhaust area of 15 square inches (97 cubic centimeters), that works out to a max velocity at the exhaust of 41 mph (66 kph). Love mine.
I don't understand the appeal of these "cycling specific" fans. For about $200US, you can get a high-quality, massive air mover that will move at least 15x the amount of air on its lowest setting. The big fan will also have a much broader output which will cover your entire body with a light breeze rather than an annoying directed blast. Lastly, the bigger fans are quieter as the fan blades move more slowly.
It’s a fair question. I have a Wahoo headwind unit. Perhaps I never found the right fan but prior to the headwind, I’d got several fans in my pain cave and even with them on max, I still used to sweat buckets which was ruining the bike on my trainer. I could have continued buying fans, hoping to chance on a good one but instead I decided to take a punt on the Wahoo unit and it immediately solved my problem. Yeah it’s reasonably loud and a bit of a one trick pony but it does what it’s advertised to do. If you were to sit in your arm chair with it on max then yeah it’s really unpleasant but when you’re on your limit with Zwift it might be the thing that keeps you going. In my opinion, in that scenario, you need the concentrated blast of air (well I do anyway)
A cutting edge review of that trainer tray Shane!
