    🌲 Extra Knowledge 🌲
Explore this trail near Granite Falls, Washington. It's 4.4 miles roundtrip and has 1,200 feet in elevation gain. A moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 or 3 hours to complete if you don't stop to marvel at the view. This is a very popular area for hiking and snowshoeing, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are May through November.
Follow a somewhat rough trail to a scenic lake on the northeastern slope of Mount Pilchuck. Although the trail is rocky, muddy, and full of roots in parts, its short distance (4.2 miles roundtrip) and modest elevation gain make it suitable for families with older children looking for a challenge. The trail begins near a large parking lot, climbing through an old second-growth forest with switchbacks. Along the way, you'll see historical logging remnants, including rotting stumps with springboard notches and young trees growing out of them. After briefly following an old logging road, the trail becomes rockier with root ladders and small streamlets during high runoff. The vegetation includes ferns, devil's club, and other interesting plants. Near the lake, the trail levels out but remains muddy and marshy, with some sections of deteriorating boardwalk. A fork in the trail near the lake allows you to choose a route around it, both offering picturesque spots for breaks and photo opportunities. The east side features a marshy area with seasonal wildflowers. On your return, note the berry bushes near the outlet stream, suggesting a fall visit for berry picking.
