I applaud your opportunism taking advantage of the snow, and am delighted to get a proper recording of this so soon from having first heard (and loved) it on stream!❄️

An unexpected treasure! As a Michigander and sailor, it's great to hear more Great Lakes ballads being sung! First, the Mighty Fitz now Cold Winds!! It is a fairly accurate song for how the weather is this month on Lake Michigan 😂
As someone from Michigan this song just gives me goosebumps. It just makes me think about people from my state and surrounding states that were on the lake freighters. Up on the deck in the cold November air. Probably transporting the taconite that built the car my Grandfather drove or built the school my Mom went to. I went to school in the Keweenaw and the winds off the portage walking home at 2 A.M. were something I could feel in my bones and I don't think I'll ever forget.
I remember the ice storm that hit some 5 years ago. I stood in the middle of the street. Dead of night. NOTHING was moving. Everything just, frozen still. The UP has its way of making you miss it.
i think this is worthy for Spotify like many of your songs. most of the time i want to listen to a song you guys sang but i can never find it on Spotify.
listened to this once with my (slightly bad) earbuds, listened again with my (much better) headphones, and hoooly shit those harmonies. absolutely magical
Had to search this one up beforehand. Im excited to hear your rendition. Edit: had me humming along the whole time. Such solemn solace. Edit 2: Not even 6 hours later and the lyrics are memorized. They call to me.
As a proud northern Canadian, I felt the cold in this in my bones. Loved this! Would love to see you guys take a swing at some of the Maritime stalwarts like Chemical Workers' Song or Heave Away
That was lovely Also yay, now I don't have to look through the Just The Songs video to find the song! I'm very happy this happened. I've been trying to learn it the past couple of days, it's good to have some "cold" songs to sing. Feels a bit weird to sing about pleasant and delightful midsummer's morns when there's snow everywhere. And I love that Andy completely ignores the weather. "Cold? Pfft, not me."
oh my goodness. I lost my mind when y'all did this during the livestream, I cant believe I am now getting an official video version as well! Thank you.

Absolutely amazing. I think I caught an audio clipping/stutter at 1:59. Regardless still, the mix makes the bass feel so full in the audio, I LOVE the work. Never disappointed with y'all.
I’ve been listening to you guys for about a year now, and you’ve entirely taken over my UA-cam mix suggestions. You stole me from heavy metal and make me want to sail the world.
When cold winds are blowing, you need to wear your Longest Johns.
*chef's kiss*
W joke
Indeed, it cures what ails ya.

@@johncayley7838 IT does best when you're between wind and water

@@hopelesslydull7588 It's "dog" the hatches. Believe me, I know
It's "Wood and water, frost and stone" and "Taste each season as it goes". ua-cam.com/video/oVE5Hn3ys-E/v-deo.html
Oh man I had goosebumps at the first note. Wow.
This could totally work as a more than adequate movie soundtrack.
The reverb to it is as chilling as the weather, but all the better for it

Those harmonies are melancholy magic. Well done braving the cold to capture the right atmosphere.
You guys found fantastic harmony things that I didn't know existed in this song. Cheers!
Incredible bass!

@@Zman44444 I was a Yooper as a kid, living in Hawaii instead was a nice change but sometimes I miss the snow.
Great song, written by a friend. Glad you fellas are using it. Sounds great.
Exquisitely adequate! It feels eternal, as though the work will never end, and your rendition is heartbreaking.
Something about your harmonies on this and the haunting tune got deep inside my soul. Absolutely beautiful.
i think this is worthy for Spotify like many of your songs. most of the time i want to listen to a song you guys sang but i can never find it on Spotify.
Amen
Now every somber song is going to feel like a song representing dave's parting from the johns
There is some kind of magic hidden in this, and I can't put my finger on it...
Fabulous work, absolutely lovely to listen to
That bass note. Damn.
Oh damn I didn't quite realize how deep of a bass that you actually had!
I feel the harmony in my bones, the winds on my face, and joy for folk music in spirit. Love your work
Incredibl harmonies again & JD's bass - wow!
listened to this once with my (slightly bad) earbuds, listened again with my (much better) headphones, and hoooly shit those harmonies. absolutely magical
Beautiful song beautifully sung by all, specially Robbie
I've got chills, and it's not just the temperature!
Beautiful song, beautiful performance❤️
Been waiting for this cover since they played it on a stream last year
Brilliant Guys. I remain in increasing awe... Harwich seems a Lifetime ago.
It's been a few days, the winds are still cold but this song still slams
That’s a beautifully haunting song. The harmonies are spot on lads. Great work
Best longest johns song
Had to search this one up beforehand. Im excited to hear your rendition.
Edit: had me humming along the whole time. Such solemn solace.
Edit 2: Not even 6 hours later and the lyrics are memorized. They call to me.
Definitely a new favorite for me
This made me think of a Viking funeral or something…love the beautiful harmonies and melancholy tone
O my! Who would have thought that this song would get a revival!!! Love it!
The harmonies are perfect, i also love the atmosphere because it fits perfectly.
Beautiful!
I think I’ve listened to this almost every morning making coffee

One of my most favorite bass singers!
Heard this on the stream earlier, and it chilled me (no pun intended). And it does again here. Such a great song, and such a great rendition.
wow, i didn't know i needed the coldest johns this much
andy looks kind of immune to the cold, giving the snow a stoic cold shoulder.
I love to listen to this before playing Dredge, this and your cover of Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald!
I've been waiting for a shanty specifically about the Arctic sailing expeditions; this is beautiful!
It's about the Great Lakes, specifically Chicago. ua-cam.com/video/oVE5Hn3ys-E/v-deo.html
Snow?? Surely not in Somerset, UK! Superbly sung, what a little gem. Thank you all.
My Alaskan soul is moved by songs about winter. Hope you enjoy your snow.
This rendition could do some serious damage with a backing from some dark string instruments. Absolutely fantastic!
Oh hey Tom Kastle! Wisconsin represent!
I had hoped you would do a full version! It's beautiful ❤😊
A new one for me to learn!
Beautiful cover, haunting harmonies, love it
What a beautiful Song!
Can't wait to see you in Hamburg in some days
Hearing you guys never fails to bring me joy.
If I may ask, do you guys think you could try singing Barrett's Privateers?
Great Nebraska Sea would be an interesting one to see you do
Beautiful performance of a beautiful song!
Brilliant adaptation of Tom Kastle's original.
Bass on point in this one
Nice Song. can you pls play Rio Grand in hamburg 😍
So excited to see this one
It's a beautiful song with amazing vocals. I can feel the wind and the cold while listening. I will be searching for more of your music!
Simply Beautiful. Wanted a "proper" version since you first sang this on stream.
Wow, those harmonies are fantastic. I see I'm not the first to say that, but it's true!!
I grew up 3 miles from Lake Superior. My Dad, Mom & us 14 children sang this and other songs at Beaver Bay Minnesota's 150 anniversary!
So great, would love to hear this one on spotify
Listening to this song while reading “The Terror” = perfection
I so hope these covers go up on spotify! They're all amazing and I cant get enough
Gorgeous! Those harmonies...
Chef's kiss!
Love every song and cover you guys put out, please keep up the good work!
Give the guy his hat, I'm worried 😁♥️

Wow. Hope you guys didn't freeze too much while recording this. ^^
That's a beautiful fire ❤🔥❤🔥
The BASS 😍
Brrr! I hope it's warmed up for you lads, since you filmed this... (Beautiful harmonies, as expected, BTW)
A great song for the current weather!

Thank you for doing this one, it's so good
Beautiful song! Please let me know this will show up on an album available on iTunes.

I love it.
