Being Chicano myself and growing up in a Chicano neighborhood in the 70s, this song was indeed an anthem and War was a much loved band in the Chicano community. I'd hear lots of War songs coming from the lowriders all the time like "Cisco Kid", "Me and Baby Brother", "Why Can't We Be Friends", "All Day Music", "The World Is A Ghetto", "Slippin Into Darkness", and my favorite "Summer". Man, they take me back to my childhood!
YES!!! I didn't realize that was Lee Oscar with the harmonicas! I still have one of his albums. "Why Can't We be Friends" is a great War song too. I hope you'll listen to it as well. 😊
This album was absolutely on fire. You need to do The World is a Ghetto next. They had some of the greatest musicians. I so loved Lee Osker’s harmonica playing that I bought his solo album and it was fantastic.
Lee Oskar is a Danish harmonica player notable for his rock-fusion playing with War. His Mother was a Holocaust Survivor. WAR band members accepted him with open arms and didn't care if he was a White Guy from a Nordic Country. War just wanted to play great music - and they damn sure did. Thanks, Shawn, for playing WAR and for the fantastic commentary. I appreciate it.
Did you know that Eric Burdon from the Animals sang with this band for a little while after he was with the Animals? 'Spill the Wine' was his big song with War.
In the 80s I worked the door and headed security for one of their shows. After everyone was seated they had me come onstage and I listened to the entire show sitting behind an amp at the front of the stage with my feet propped on the amp. Good times.
The real War band is now called the lowrider band, one of the founding members took it to court and won the rights to the name WAR, so if you like the band with most of the original members that would be the Lowrider band
My friend and I attempted to see War at the Municipal Aditorium in New Orleans in the early 70's . We showed up without tickets to a sold out show with hundreds of others. Guys were climbing up the building and trying to crash the doors trying to gain access. When the N.O. P. D. showed up on horseback war broke out. Those cops are experts at crowd control with a long history with Mardi Gras. We hauled ass quickly. Iv'e never seen war yet. Slippin into darkness.
Mom raised me on this and the rest of the great songs from the 60's & 70's! Slippin into darkness is awesome, why can't we be friends, spill the wine and Cisco Kid.
In addition to Why Can't We Be Friends, be sure to also add these WAR songs to your list: Cisco Kid Spill the Wine The World Is a Ghetto All Day Music Slippin' Into Darkness Summer ... a very under-appreciated band, IMO
Aren't you glad you heard this now, rather than a year ago? It's a cool thing about music, the more you listen and the wider the range of music you hear continually makes you better at listening and appreciating. It's a virtually never ending ride of wonder, my friend. Later on, you'll go back and listen to music you thought you already appreciated, and will surprise yourself at how much more you appreciate about it since the first time you heard it.
Shawn, you might like "Fencewalk", by the 70's group Mandrill. It's like a mashup of War, Santana, and Chicago, and it is smoking'! Check it out and you'll see what I mean!
Great reaction, brings back memories of my childhood!! This was also used on George Lopez-Intro/ theme song on his tv show, could be where you have heard it.. :)
Most of my bikes are stretch cruisers (not really low rider bikes. There's a difference). If i do one of the local rides (not races, just casual city rides), somebody's liable to ride by and sing this to me.

You need to listen to his self titled album and So Much Love.
This album was absolutely on fire. You need to do The World is a Ghetto next. They had some of the greatest musicians. I so loved Lee Osker’s harmonica playing that I bought his solo album and it was fantastic.
I saw WAR Perform a couple years ago, they still top-notch Musicians. Summer, All Day Music, or Slippin’ Into Darkness.
Whenever this plays in my car, I have to turn it up LOUD, even if it is a sensible Subaru 😉
LOL
Some of their hits- Summer, Slipping into Darkness and The World Is A Ghetto.
All Day Music 🎶 🎵 🙌

Great reaction! Yes! Do “Why can’t we be friends?” Also “Summer!!!!!” You will love them! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Early 70s iconic song. These guys were so good.
- "Why Can't We Be Friends?" is another great one! :)
What a funky, hot groove !!!! 💥💥💥💥💥 1975 !!! Nearly 50 years ago and it could have been written today!
I'm a 71 year old white woman and love this song and I love low tiders. What art they show. Low and slow ❤

One of the most fun songs ever regardless of race, color, or creed.
San Jose was the lowrider capitol in the early 60s.

Summer is a War song no one has done that is a nice, chill summer vibe song 😎
This and Oye Como VA by Santana are the ultimate curb crawling songs!
This was a good one!
At the end of the song, I'm yelling at the screen, "yeah, keep it going with Cisco Kid now!"
Oh yeah, I remember this song on the radio…good song! 👏👏👏🩵🩵
All Day Music is one of my all time favorites!! Thanks Shawn!!
when I want to chill, I listen to All Day Music and Suavecito by Malo
one of the greatest songs ever written. Not only does it not get old, it gets better the more you listen to it

Try "Why Can't We Be Friends?" and "Cisco Kid". Oh, "Spill The Wine" and "Don't Let No One Get You Down" are also good.
I love this song! It reminds me of hot Summertime with a blazing sun. Yeah
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oh yes you need to watch the movie Up in Smoke with Cheech and Chong.
Growing up in San Francisco's Mission District in the 1970s, this song was always blaring out of cars, especially low riders.
I can't say enough about how good this is.
Love that WAR, and my favorite harmonica player Lee Oscar, YAY. It is very Rich.
Please tell me you've seen UP IN SMOKE...
It always makes me smile.
Great song !!!
A perfect song performed perfectly!!! ☮️💜
It seemed like everyone loved this song when I was a teenager. Nice, is the perfect word for it.
Their first big hit was "Spill the Wine" with original lead vocalist Eric Burdon (The Animals).
Give a listen to the long version of Galaxy.
This is a funky song! 💙👵🏼✌🏼
Forever a fav! 😎🎶
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Everybody know this, don't they?

You're a good reactor. Neil Young had an album called Reactor, it has a good rowdy tune Opera Star. I often play it at open mics 🎤🎸
If I could choose just one song to make me feel good instantly, this is it! Not to mention Cheech and Chong 😁 Up In Smoke
I think you'd really like their song "58 Blues"
Spill The Wine (Eric Burdon on vocals)
He reacted to Spill The Wine.
"Why can't we be friend," by War. Check it out!
I hear this i think Cheech and Chong
WAR "Low Rider" CLICK.
Love War
Pardon my Cultural Appropriation, but I've always loved this song.
Cisco Kid
