Eric Burdon who sang House of the Rising Sun, also sang with War. Check out the video Eric Burdon & War, Spill the Wine. The Live version is 6:41 long.
Low riders came first ,the song celebrated the culture. Cars were so cool it’s impossible to explain. The sounds of engines influenced music ,the rumble of a great engine. Heavy sigh ☮️ to all the Motörheads and musicians
The 70’s was weird, wild and so COOL!!!!!! There were few boundaries in music, everyone could do everything. It’s one of the reasons so much phenomenal music came out in that decade.
OH HELL YEAH!!!!... See man we were all together musically up till they used 80s hip-hop/rap to separate us! That's when it REALLY got weird not the 70s.
Low riders are part of the Chicano/Latino culture since the late 40s, the song lowrider is by the group WAR which is a tribute to the low rider movement. The song is been sampled by many.
If you can remember the 70's - you weren't there. 73 yr old disabled Vietnam vet, married 55 years and we're having the time of our lives. Yes there is life after 70.
R.I.P to Charles Miller he died in 1980 at the age of 41 he was murdered in Los Angeles, Ca til this day his murder remains unsolved 🙏🏾👼. FYI he's the man singing and he's the saxophonist.
War is such a great band with amazing hits like "The World Is A Ghetto", "Slippin Into Darkness", "All Day Music", "Why Can't We Be Friends", "Spill the Wine", "Summer", "Baby Brother", among others. it's a great band to explore. They were extremely popular with the Mexican lowrider crowd in the 70s, which is where I used to hear them as a kid in my neighborhood. I love this band.
70’s was a genius decade because there were no rules or restrictions on who could make what kind of music. There were cultural musical intersections everywhere and our lives were the richer for it! ❤😊 Time to watch Up In Smoke with Cheech and Chong!!! Lowrider culture began with LA Chicanos ( Mexicans). Everyone would be cruising in their decked out autos!
Race was really only mentioned in a description, like everyone saying "Parliament/Funkadelic? They're like a black funky Kiss", or the other way round - "Kiss? Yeah, they're like a white hard-rock P-Funk."
From 1973-1975, my dad had Treasury department training in Chicago. He came home with an appreciation of the band War. "Why Can't We Be Friends" is another popular tune from them & will likely sound familiar to you & your other subscribers.
You are correct… the 70’s (and part of the 60’s) was the best era for music. It was when players actually played, singers could actually sing. Eric Burdon (singer from The Animals - House of the Rising Sun) joined War to record a great song called “Spill the Wine”. If you have not already heard it, I highly recommend checking it out!
Yes! If lowrider cars had a sound, they perfectly encapsulated it with this song. Other hits of theirs that I highly recommend are "War", "Cisco Kid" and "Why Can't We Be Friends". Each is very different from the other and reactions to any of them would be worthwhile ❤. I can honestly say that as a 70's kid, growing up in the Bronx, music crossed racial lines MUCH MUCH more than they do today; if it was good, it was made and listened to, didn't matter by whom. Unfortunately, I don't see that nearly as much today; things in that regard have regressed.
Music of my childhood… 1970-75 WAR rehearsed almost every day at the Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach California… where family went every day for swimming lessons.. 7 to 12 years old I heard these guys playing…background music of my youth… love it!
Mugs, the fashion of the lowriders, with the big spongy shocks, began in the early 40s as part of the teenage chicano culture. That style inspired this song -- rather than the other way around. There was clothing style attached originally . . Zoot suits, tight skirts and sweaters, etc. Growing up in Texas in the 69s, I knew a few. : )
We had a ‘74 Buick that was awesome. If you got in a wreck, you had time to open the door and step out before the shock wave hit you. Also, I have heard this on R&B, AM pop, classic rock, and “adult alternative” radio stations. I’ve seen metal heads grooving to this.
YES!! Damn straight! The 60's and 70's were the GREATEST decades for ANYTHING....music, movies...you name it...we either started it, or perfected it! LOL
The 60s and 70s were like that. All types of people and styles got shook up and mixed up and crazy cool stuff came out. Life was crazy and gritty. You just never knew what would happen next and by who. War was a great great band. Time to add more of them back to my OG playlist.
My brother had a 1973 Firebird we called "Flying Low ". That was in 1976 and it sat very low but only because the shocks were worn out. 3 to 4 inches off ground. Jammed this song all the time. Great memories. Peace my man and have a great day.
Cisco Kid is another War song that sounds like a Chicano Hispanic band. Other War songs to check out-Summer, All Day Music, The World Is A Ghetto, Slippin Into Darkness and Why Can't We Be Friends.
Oh young man! I grew up when this song got airplay on the radio. My sister got the album and I became a fan of War. They had such fusion of culture and instruments! Enjoy more! They do not disappoint! 😽🎶
Huge song. I remember it vividly and everyone loved it. I think the bouncy cars came first. It wasn’t until the song came out that I knew they were called Low Riders.
War is from the South Bay (Long Beach, Wilmington, Harbor City, San Pedro) which is predominately Mexican/Mexican American & their sound is influenced by this, As a kid i used to think War were Mexicans until I saw a pic of the group. Lowriders are part of the Cholo (Mexican Gang/Pachucos) culture that many African Americans adopted & War is paying homage to this culture.
Black with a Latin swag. I truly believe that the 70s was the Golden Era for racial relations. The music you see displays that. I feel much more division in evidence today. 1970, the race of the performer was immaterial. Good music was good music. 2020, blacks listen to black music, whites listen to white music, and there is a small area of overlap. Sorry for talking so much, but it's how I see it.
They started out as Eric Burdon and War - the first song I remember on the radio from them was SPILL THE WINE from the album Eric Burdon Declares War. Check it out, about 1970. Good Times! The cops were usually in the Plymouth Fury cop special.
I have LOVED this song forever! What a beat and vibe! You can't not rock to this. I never saw the video before so I didn't know it was about cars. I always thought it was about the Harley Low Rider motorcycle. LOL
Yep, harp and sax at the same time. And it's funny because I was a child during this time and there were a lot of different kinds of cars but yeah that's generally what it looked like including the cop cars. And I would say you were more accurate when you were saying it was both a celebration and an inspiration of the culture. The culture already existed but was fairly underground compared to later but the song lyrics actually are quite interesting. They really speak to the culture. The lowrider drives a little slower. He cruises. He makes frequent stops and becomes the center of a social interaction for a while. Gossip and information are exchanged, he moves on, he knows all the streets. He can tell you anything pretty much anything about the neighborhood.
When I went to college in the early 70's, the WAR LP was the bomb!! Eric Burdon (formerly with The Animals) does a song on the album called "Spill The Wine," others songs: "The World Is A Ghetto," "Why Can't We Be Friends," (this song), "Cisco Kid," etc...Look for the full LP by WAR!! ✌ Yep, I'm old, but I was born in a great era for music 👍✌💯
Another highly significant and multiracial banned from that era is the Beloved Sly and the Family Stone. Just find a greatest hits playlist and randomly pick any one of those. You will be amazed. Color Me True is my favorite of their hits. "Do ya laugh at the boss's jokes when they ain't funny? Color me true"
OH my! I remember smokin' with my friends and school bus driver listening to this one!!!! Ride around with our bus driver after dropping the other kids off and cruised!!! Oh, and my dad owned a used car lot so got to ride in lots of rides!
The only people who have heard of Olatha KS are people who are from Olatha KS War is one of my favorite groups! There are so many great cuts you should check out.
"The group was racially mixed and shared a love of diverse styles of music as most of the members grew up in racially mixed neighborhoods in Los Angeles."
War it takes me back to a calmer time or got great music they also made music with the lead singer of the animals take me back to 1975😊😊😊😊 back then men were men and women were women if you know what I mean
Mexican American veterans came up with lowriders in the 1940s, and soon African Americans began customizing their cars which the song Lowrider came out later in the 70s.
In the 1970's you could tell a Chevrolet from a Ford from a Buick from a Dodge from a Chrysler. Now? You can't tell a Honda from a Toyota from a Kia from a Mazda. And WAR was a great band. "Why Can't We Be Friends?", "Cisco Kid", "Livin' In The Red", "The World Is A Ghetto", more...
That's the original. Eric Burden of the Animals sang with them a a lot too. They had a few albums together. Spill the Wine is a really good hit song. 'Spirit" is also a good song he sings with them
Remember your reaction to the Animals song “House of the Rising Sun”? The lead singer Eric Burdon was one of the founders of War (after the animals). War was originally called: Eric Burdon and War. If you watch War’s song “Spill The Wine” you’ll see him. It was a multi-cultural band. 😊 Check this out: ua-cam.com/video/4-Xs7NK-7B8/v-deo.htmlsi=6YQ_MCmBG2F5rv8U

The best movie to use this song was Cheech and Tong's Up in Smoke" Used at the beginning during the opening creats with Cheech driving his car. and picking up Tommy Tong. One funny movie, My parents even liked it.
The 3 best are The World is A Ghetto, All Day Music, Slippen Into Darkness ! Trust me on this one ! Also, Eric Burdon ( Animals) British rocker kinda help start them off, although their base is Afro-Cuban. Spill the Wine, bet you heard that, anyway that was Burdon

@@joyceedwards2708 Yes! Cisco Kid!
Some were black Mexicans.
Agreed! Really great band! Saw them live with Chicago in the late 70s.
70’s was a genius decade because there were no rules or restrictions on who could make what kind of music. There were cultural musical intersections everywhere and our lives were the richer for it! ❤😊
Time to watch Up In Smoke with Cheech and Chong!!!
Lowrider culture began with LA Chicanos ( Mexicans). Everyone would be cruising in their decked out autos!
lowriders first modified their cars in the 1940s and 1950s
The 70's were the BEST !! No one ever thought about the "race" of the artist! We loved and appreciated EVERYONE !!
FACTS!!

You will be hearing "Why Can't We Be Friends" soon, they were not a one hit wonder.
You also forgot “Outlaw”.

70’s great time to be young and alive. LOVE IT ❤🎉
My high school years were from 1971-75 and imo the 70's were when rock n roll was at it's finest. 🤘✌️
The 60s and 70s were like that. All types of people and styles got shook up and mixed up and crazy cool stuff came out. Life was crazy and gritty. You just never knew what would happen next and by who. War was a great great band. Time to add more of them back to my OG playlist.
The music of the 70s is the absolute ultimate dream for musiclovers. Fire all over the airwaves.
War was a whole vibe I lived in San Diego back in the 70's & 80's. Lots of old cars and l8w riders. The whole Why can't we be friends album is 🔥🔥🔥
My brother had a 1973 Firebird we called "Flying Low ". That was in 1976 and it sat very low but only because the shocks were worn out. 3 to 4 inches off ground. Jammed this song all the time. Great memories. Peace my man and have a great day.
Oh this the original, and I'm pretty sure no one else has attempted a cover (professionally). This is one of WAR's signature songs.
Cisco Kid is another War song that sounds like a Chicano Hispanic band. Other War songs to check out-Summer, All Day Music, The World Is A Ghetto, Slippin Into Darkness and Why Can't We Be Friends.
The harmonica player is Lee Oskar. He put out several solo albums.
Oh young man! I grew up when this song got airplay on the radio. My sister got the album and I became a fan of War. They had such fusion of culture and instruments! Enjoy more! They do not disappoint! 😽🎶

I got to see War in concert, they were incredible! One of my favorite bands from the 70s.
We had great cars, great music and believe it or not even in rural Texas we got along with all races. Forgot, we also had great fashion!
Black with a Latin swag. I truly believe that the 70s was the Golden Era for racial relations. The music you see displays that. I was born in the 70’s but those next two decades were free AF. We were wild and our for real back the
Wow, never knew the history of this song or that it was done by a black person. Great to see Mugs. Keep up the good work.
WAR will always be one of the greatest bands period. Everyone can relate to them.
It was in "Up In Smoke" with Cheech and Chong, hilarious movie. It really was a celebration of low riding, no commercial. War was a Black Band.
Olathe Kansas is a 20-minute drive from me and I drive past it every day to work on my commute.
Lowriders also referred to the custom bicycles built just like the cars. Hence the line about not using gas.
They started out as Eric Burdon and War - the first song I remember on the radio from them was SPILL THE WINE from the album Eric Burdon Declares War. Check it out, about 1970. Good Times! The cops were usually in the Plymouth Fury cop special.
Nothing weird about the 70s, can't say the same thing about today's music scene
1st song i listen to at work everyday
😂 the look on your face was priceless. Then ya hit me with the 70s was weird 😂 indeed it was, a lot of surprising talent.
Love my 60s - 90s music!
Growing up with the 60s 70s and 80s, we had thee very best music on the planet. Looks like the streets in Cuba.
I have LOVED this song forever! What a beat and vibe! You can't not rock to this. I never saw the video before so I didn't know it was about cars. I always thought it was about the Harley Low Rider motorcycle. LOL
Been cruising with the Low Rider for near on 50 years.. welcome aboard.. happy you found it ;-))))
Espanola, New Mexico - Lowrider capital of the world!
WAR was always fire 🔥. Lee Oskar was the harmonica player and did a great album after WAR called After the Rain. I think you would enjoy it
Oh Man! I can't wait to see you unpack some more War. What an incredible band! Great reaction!
See, back then, musicians played musical instruments and vocalists sang great lyrics. Result, fantastic music created by people, not computers.
Yep, harp and sax at the same time. And it's funny because I was a child during this time and there were a lot of different kinds of cars but yeah that's generally what it looked like including the cop cars.

Back in the 70's a friend of mine had a 63 Bel Air burned to the ground from all the batteries in the trunk (hydraulics used a lot amps).
When I went to college in the early 70's, the WAR LP was the bomb!! It's special to have been a teenager in the 70s. The lead singer of The Animals Eric Burdon sang with War on "Spill the Wine".
One of the coolest tunes ever
Oh yeah growing up in the 70s the music was 🔥🔥🔥 . The Band War also sang a song "War" ☮️
War was an LA neighborhood band. ALL NEIGHBORHOODS.......now go look up Eric Burden and WAR "drink the wine"
Lowriders still doing it low. Many memories as a teenager lowriding on Whittier Boulevard
They reprise this song with Dog Face for an advertisement. called, No Lighter. He still has it going on!
All these years and they brothers? I love learning new things! Very cool!
Loved this sound back in the day (still like the smooth groove) ... gave me a strange Cuban-Jamaican feel.
The only people who have heard of Olatha KS are people who are from Olatha KS War is one of my favorite groups! There are so many great cuts you should check out.
" the 70s was a weird decade". Spot on
"The group was racially mixed and shared a love of diverse styles of music as most of the members grew up in racially mixed neighborhoods in Los Angeles."
That bass line is a total groove. And Olathe, Kansas is near Kansas City.
Love your reactions, you've got an old white fan!
Olathe, Ks is about 20 minutes from me! I live in Kansas City, Missouri! It’s just across the state line. Loved this song back in the day!
This always reminds me of East Oakland. And crusin’
War it takes me back to a calmer time or got great music they also made music with the lead singer of the animals take me back to 1975😊😊😊😊 back then men were men and women were women if you know what I mean
Just keep passing down history
Mexican American veterans came up with lowriders in the 1940s, and soon African Americans began customizing their cars which the song Lowrider came out later in the 70s.
This was a good time, loved it.

The harp is miced, genius..
War had some great songs.
Also, check out Latin Alliance (Lowrider on the Boulevard) featuring Kid Frost A.L.T. and Mellon Man Ace. Thanks
See quite a few low riders in Corpus Christi ❤ Beautiful rides, brother.
That's the original. Eric Burden of the Animals sang with them a a lot too. They had a few albums together. Spill the Wine is a really good hit song. 'Spirit" is also a good song he sings with them
Sadly, lead singer/saxophone player Charles Miller was stabbed to death in an attempted robbery in L.A. in 1980 he was 41 years old. RIP.
I loved this song when it came out at the time, but I forever will associate it with Cheech and Chong!
Remember your reaction to the Animals song “House of the Rising Sun”? The lead singer Eric Burdon was one of the founders of War (after the animals). War was originally called: Eric Burdon and War. To add a side note, not everyone knows the Animals bass player, Chas Chandler, more or less "discovered", then managed, Jimi Hendricks.
I once listened to this song on my headphones when I was completely stoned while walking through the city and thought I was the hottest lol
Symbol „Von der Community überprüft“
cool tune :) Reminds of my childhood.
So good!!!
A black dude from Olathe ks . He grew up as close to Canada as to Mexico.
The best movie to use this song was Cheech and Tong's Up in Smoke" Used at the beginning during the opening creats with Cheech driving his car. and picking up Tommy Tong. One funny movie, My parents even liked it.
If you like this one, check out The Cisco Kid. Untouchable
That was a cool song, liked the video too.
70s was much more inclusive and less color concerned than we are now.
Wow!!, i live not very far from Olatha Kansas
Cheech and Chong "Up in Smoke" 🙂
I can't hear this song with out thinking about Cheech & Chong's movie Up in Smoke.
SOUTHERN PART OF TEXAS, GYPSY MAN long version.
Check out a group called Mother’s Finest. Baby Love, Mickey’s Monkey. Great group.
70s we listened to e erything. No one was pigeon holed into one genre.
The band has Chicago's, whites, black men! Listen to City Cpuntry City!
Gas was 50 cents/gal back than.
