    I have a filter set-up with a clear housing. I can easily see when the filter is all filled with iron. I just grease the O-ring . The most important thing is to relieve the pressure by draining down the house supply. That way, the filter housing will remove easily. If not relieving pressure, it is a bear to remove and you risk busting the pipes that are attached to the filter housing. Just a few tips based on experience.

    I always install a 3 valve bypass and secure the filter housing to the wall, joist, etc.

    Why not install a union to facilitate replacing the unit next time? Looks like it was done once already.

      That’s what I would’ve done. It would make his job a lot easier next time for Service. But, we don’t know if he proposed that idea to the Homeowner. The Homeowner might not have wanted to pay for a $15.00 Union compared to a $3.00 Slip/Repair Coupling. Maybe we’ll find out.

      @@paulywalnuts9045 Even with the current copper price I do not pay that for the compression fittings, unless you are going to the big box stores who purport to save you money. 45 versus $2 for the solder in one, if I do not already have one or two spare ones already, just use new olives with them. I often add in one or two with each order, simply because the fitting complete is cheaper than buying 2 nuts and 2 olives separately, and I often just solder the centre in instead. Plus the thread works as 1/2in adaptor to a socket, saving buying the more expensive 1/2in male fitting. 3/4 does not, so I am stuck buying the 2 adaptors for filters, unless the old ones still are in good condition.

      I would never use a Compression Fitting. I would use Copper Sweat Unions.

    I have a love/hate/relationship with my GE filter ... a did install one of those "spin-down" mesh pre-filters with a backwash flush ... gets the most of the well sand/debris before it hits the carbon filter ... saves a ton on main filters changes ... I flush the spin down about every 2 weeks ... the spin down filter comes in 3 different micron sizes.... the super fine one clogs too fast

  • @jblyon2

    Parents had the same filter for their well. The valve on the top of it busted too. There's a shutoff on either side as well as a bypass. Plumber that put in the replacement said no need for a filter housing with a shutoff...just one more thing to break.

  • @craigharding475
    @craigharding475 2 роки тому +1

    My neighbor has a country well system. The filter would clog in a week due to all of the sediment. Plumber recommended a spin-down filter which can flush out sediment before it clogs the filter.

    I also have a well and have one of those filters to catch sediment from the well. I use the string-wound filters and always have an extra supply of filters as well as O-rings. I found at about every other filter change you have to replace the O-ring as well.

    Stupid question, but why not either desolder the existing coupling or hit it with the angle grinder, then put the slip coupling in its place?

    My Well had a hose, pipe come off the pump. We have a water filter under our house off the Water heater which was clogged and removed the clutter, but now the Water heater will not put out Hot water. We have water in all rooms which have sinks but 1 cold water faucet in the BR sink. We planned to replace both the water heater elements 1st then I dunno.

    There's a big flathead screw on the underside of the head of those Aqua-Pures (between the 4 white tabs that hold the filters in) that can back off whenever you use the built-in shutoff valve. If the leak is coming from just under the on/off knob, tightening the screw can usually solve the issue. Kind of a shitty design, but it's a good idea to snug up that screw every filter change. This is just for anyone dealing with the same issue. It's probably a better idea to shitcan it for a normal filter and external shutoffs.

    • @Mark-bh8zo
      @Mark-bh8zo Рік тому

      I've been having this issue every couple weeks or so, it's such a pain in the butt. I bought a new one and realized it has the same design. Seems like an awful design, just asking for a leak. Hopefully the new one doesn't so the same thing.

    I've seen some manual propress tools that look like bolt cutters, they come with several size jaws and only cost under 200 bucks. thinking about picking one up for those jobs that would work out well on. Don't see 3 grand for the battery powered ones unless your doing boiler replacements every day. any thoughts

      May as well use sharkbite fittings, they are the same thing as propress fitting but no tools are needed. O-rings do the sealing.

    One charcoal filter won't do much for the whole house, those filters are mainly used for taste improvement, would be better off with a 5-6 stage RO system at the kitchen sink

      Every water line in that house terminates in a o-ring connection,including the filter he put grease on,if they are good enough for the space shuttle and airplanes high pressure hydraulic lines they are good enough for me,just sayin!
