This is a great video! My husband passed away earlier this year and he always took care of this chore. I was able to change my filter without any trouble thanks to this video. Saved me money having a plumber come out to do it!
Used this video last two times I changed my filter, it’s the best one. I watched a few others from plumbers but they’re just not as clear as this one cuz they take everything for granted they are doing these all the time.
Thank you so much! New-ish to a house with well water. I have a great plumber who has done a ton of work on the house, including a new well pump last week. With the new pump, the filter needed to be changed after just 3 days. For a 10 minute visit, it was $240. $190 for labor (i.e. to show up costs that) and $50 for a 2--pack of filters (we have a two filter system, one for heavy sediment, one for finer particulates.) I don't begrudge my plumber any fees he charges--he's fabulous and I truly appreciate the work he does. But now I can change the filters myself, and I feel good about it after watching this great video.
It took me 2 years after purchasing my house before I changed minds because I didn't know what it was or then how to change it. I new I couldn't have been the only one new to well water systems, so I made this video for any and all that are like you and I. I am glad it helped you out, and most importantly I am glad you save a lot of money. Thank you for viewing!!!
Thanks for your very helpful and clear video. One thought that occurred to me, instead of using bleach, why not use white vinegar. Fewer harsh chemicals.
This was super helpful. Mine came with a rubber gasket that was well coated with silicone grease, so I didn't have to mess with that part. I think my rotation to unscrew the housing was counter-clockwise though. Regardless, this video was really helpful.
9:06 The newly inserted white cartridge can be seen wobbling left and right, and easily touching the rim of the blue housing. On my system, this happens even if the white cartridge has properly snapped into the bottom of the blue housing. When the blue part is eventually screwed in into the black "lid", how do you ensure that the white cartridge is centered and standing vertically up inside the blue part? If it is not, does this cause issues? Like, how will the water flow correctly into the filter cartridge, if the cartridge is sitting inside the blue part at an angle or even touching the blue rim? Once the blue part is screwed into the top black part, there is no way to visually check for this. I replaced my cartridge by following these and other similar instructions, but unsure about what to do about this "wobbling" of the white cartridge. It doesn't seem possible to fix it in a vertical position. Do people just ignore this issue? [Very nice video, by the way, thank you.]
If the cartridge is centered the housing will tighten all the way.lf it is not centered then the housing will not tighten all the way and not make contact with the Oring and will leak. If when done and there are no leaks then it is good.
I just looked it up--they ("they", lol) say at least once a year, some say every three months. My plumber says when your tap water slows down in your inside faucets, that's an indication that the filter is full and blocking water flow.
I think my filters need to be replaced. How do I know what size filter I need? Also, do I just turn the water back on afterwards? No steps after? I really don't want to mess it up, but need it done and done cheaply 😅
When I first attempted it, I took the filter container (Blue thing in the thumbnail) to Home Depot with me, then asked one of the staff to help me find the right size. As far as turning on the water goes; that's it. Turn on the hot and cold water all of your facets (shower and all), and let it run for about a minute to clear out all of the nasty shit in the pipes. I hope this helps. Thank you for viewing!
@The Amateur's Amateur-If I Can Do It You Can Do it so it won't hurt it to be taken apart for a while to go to home depot? I know once our power went out and we had to reprime the system or something. I was worried about thay
Thank you for the video! I am a new subscriber! Our water pressure has cut way down and I’m hoping the reason is the well water filter. How often do people change these? Thanks again G
How do you know what size & type of filter(s) to get? I just recently moved into this house and they have a phone number for a company that no longer exists. Also, I have 3 filters but theyre down stream in my basement, as in theyre under my kitchen sink, not next to the well intake. Near the well I have a big one that resembles a large 02 tank. So I'm a bit confused because of that. I've seen the packs of 3 filters which filter different things but I don't understand why theyre not near the water intake. Any idea based off of this bit of info? Either way thanks for the video. Once I end up figuring out what I need, I think I'll be confident enough to change them out myself.
If you don't mind, can you send me what you use? I change this filter way to much to be effing up lol. Thank you for viewing, the comment, and most definitely the suggestion. I appreciate you.
I read this comment last night and thought that this was an excellent suggestion. I tried it this morning when I changed the filter (true story). I will let you know in a month lol. Thank you for viewing!!!
So this was helpful. Except, if you have PVC piping, you want to be extra careful when you crank the casing off, or you'll snap something like an elbow joint clean in half and you're replacing more than just a filter.
To ensure a nice water proof sealant along the rubber gasket. I just changed the filter a month ago, and I didn't have any more silicone; therefore I didn't use any. I have had any issues, but that's how I was taught, so I am passing that down to you my friend. All in all, I hope this video helped you. Thank you for viewing!
I appreciate you my friend. I actually have to change it today, so i'm about to head to the Depot to get the food graded silicone. I didn't know that which is why i am an amateur. These are the types of comments I look forward to, so i can do shit the right SAFE way. Thank you for viewing and thank you for the respectful correction.
The trick is after you turn off the water to the filter, Open up the Faucet in the kitchen, then the pressure will be released, then Filter housing will screw off easily. One comment said to only hand tighten on and off, but I tighten with wrench....
It would be best if you made a 3 filter system, first filer has to be a 5 micron to block big sediments then second carbon filer to block organisms and better water taste, and the last 1 micron filter to stop bacteria getting in your tab water

Thanks for this, from a new well owner who was thinking, "Um . . . what have I gotten myself into???"

If You Have 3 Filters Under Your Kitchen Sink Sounds Like You Have An RO System / Reverse Osmosis System Which Use 3 Special Filters

Thank you, I hope that video was helpful!
Great tutorial! Thanks!
I have trouble getting the new filter centered so I can screw it on. I had hoped there was a trick I didn't know.
great tutorial!!
Don't use silicone caulk for these rubber seals. There is a silicone grease as per the manufacturer brand.
If you don't mind, can you send me what you use? I change this filter way to much to be effing up lol. Thank you for viewing, the comment, and most definitely the suggestion. I appreciate you.
Vaseline works good around seal so the filter comes of easier next time.

Wrong Silicone Sir. You Need To Use Food Grade Silicone GREASE / Plumbers GREASE . Not Silicone Caulk @@TheAmateursAmateur

you couldve shortened this to like 1 minute - who needs 3 minutes to watch you wash something out?
