knottheory79220 I picked up an ar10 308 20inch from palmetto a few months back. Being poor I waited for sales to save as much as I could. I got the upper, and lower separately, buying them separately cost me right at $700.00. Maybe I got lucky, but this thing is a nail driver at 800m. I’d love to do a few upgrades, and probably will swap the fire control group, and the stock as I get the extra cash. I did put a primary arms 4-14 with the acss recital on is that was close to $300.00 so I’m in to the weapon $$1000.00. Still that’s not bad for a solid 800m weapon in my opinion.

Let me start by saying great video and thanks for sharing it. I have two PA-10s in 308 both have the 18 inch barrels as well. One has the extended length buffer tube (1 inch) with a H3 buffer using a 308 buffer spring. Before it had the short one and I was having the bcg crash into to receiver threads. And bolt bounce which caused jamming issues, since changing to what I have now all problems are gone runs flawless and it has a primary arms 18x50 acss scope. My other one has a rifle stock on it and I use a 308 rifle buffer (different than a 5.56 rifle buffer) and a 308 spring no issues at all both are gen 2 the first has a mlok rail the other has round mid length hand guards.

I bought a 20 inch blemish rifle for Christmas. $769.95. Bought a Larue straight bow two stage trigger. A Larue pistol grip. A LMT muzzle brake. A strike industries extended latch on charging handle and hand guard grip panels from black slate industries. Picked up a B 5 Precision stock off of my local gun forum. Went with a Arken SH4 6-24x50 rifle scope. Went to the range and shot some of my reloads. Could not believe how accurate this gun is. My reloads were using Sierra 165 grain hpbt bullets with IMR4895. Brass was mixed head stamped military brass. Sub moa groups. I was using a Versa-pod bipod. Mine came with a adjustable gas block. Recoil was not bad at all. I had the same trigger as yours. And installed it in one of my AR15’s.

I got the 20" upper with this system, I run mainly the heavier 180gr SP stuff from federal which has considerably more gas and recoil than the 145-150gr Nato ammo. Very solid and smooth shooter. It does have recoil, but not as much as you would think. My one complaint was it shipped with the wrong buffer and spring. I know for a fact it will cycle sharply or fail to engage the bolt hold open without both the proper spring and buffer because this system does not use a carbine buffer spring. After going back and forth with customer service providing pictures, they sent me the proper parts and the issue was resolved without having to mail it to them.
I have used it to smack steel and put some meat on the table.

..have had the g2 for 4 years now, by far the most cost effective .308 battle rifle available, after break in at 200-300 rounds and upgrading the trigger to a national match geissele trigger, consistently get around .75 MOA with 168gr or 175gr match rounds. I do not find this rifle to recoil anymore than any other comparable .308 battle rifle. For cost, accuracy, reliability, handiness/lightweight it is a lot of value for the money. It is easily my favorite .308 from someone who shoots a lot of .308 rifles..M1A, PTR-91, Galil .308, SCAR-H, DPMS, S&W AR10. The SCAR-H beats it in handiness and low felt recoil but at almost 3x the cost.

I built a gun using PSA 10 upper and lower, but used rifle length gas system, adjustable gas block, and a standard rifle buffer tube with Magpul MOE Rifle stock, which allows for H3 buffer and proper AR10 recoil spring, it is a very soft shooting gun.

  • @seanhobbs4868

Hi Chris, Thanks for another review.
BTW, the S&W M&P-10 uses the M4-type buffer length and the longer receiver extension/buffer tube and have 5R rifling as standard. In mine, I am getting MOA with very nearly AR-15 recoil in a lightweight package, but it is loud, and lots of aftermarket parts went into it. I put on VG6 Gamma 308 muzzle brake (rises upward less than the vaunted Precision Armament M4-72 brake I tried first), a JPE adjustable gas block, a Tubb flat 308 recoil/buffer spring, a Spikes tungsten powder T2 M4-length buffer, a Midwest Free float handguard, a POF roller cam pin, a Geisselle SSAE, a 10% extra power hammer spring, a Leupold VX6 2-12x42 Ballistic Firedot reticle in an Aero Precision ultralight Mount, a V7 aluminum port cover, a V7 aluminum forward assist, an aluminum castle nut, a Radian ambi 45d safety, Radian SD charging handle, a Troy rear of receiver sling mount, and some key points of contact I carefully polished. I also threw in a DPMS enhanced extractor with the elastomer spring. The rifle is reliable and I notice the buffer barely kisses the rear end of its travel, but is 100% reliable with everything, although the very cheapest steel-cased ammunition won’t lock open sometimes, but does still feed100%. I only use Magpul or Lancer magazines. It is only on the 2nd smallest setting on the clamp-on gas block (I know you prefer pinned). It’s recoil is so negligible it is hard to believe it really is an 18” 308. I have heard even better accuracy results from the newer and very cheap 16” Sport variants and they might be less over-gassed. I never had any problems before all the mods, but I cannot just leave things alone! I’m “touched” that way! Lol
Why not try these out, as they are army least as prolific, have nearly fully ambi controls and a few engineering choices you like?

As always a great review sir
I must say this man is as professional as one can be. No nonsense, straight to the point. You know as the review goes forward that you will be given the facts on the weapon and it's true performance. Good or bad. As well as the breakdown of parts and quality of said parts. I for one look forward to this man's reviews, for I know that I can watch a review of a firearm. Take that firearm out and test fire it. And As of yet, I have never been disappointed in what his reviews have said, and how that weapon functions. It has at times landed me in the dog house with my other half, when that firearm lands in my gun rack. Ha, Ha, Ha. Again thank you sir for your straight forward and truthful reviews. God Bless you and yours.

Having had neck surgery, recoil has become a big deal. There's no way I'd put a can on that particular configuration where the gas block is not adjustable and the shorter buffer is installed. I think a 20" barrel with a rifle length system is a good starting point along with some other mods. Thanks for taking the time.

I wound up changing the reciever extension and recoil system for Vseven's and it helped out with recoil tremendously. Also a two chamber brake probably aided in recoil mitigation, the Vseven buffer tube, enhanced H3 buffer, and teflon coated spring really smoothed out the mechanics of the gun overall and helped out with significantly faster follow up shots.

I got a G3 lower for $149 on sale last year. And around $500 for the G3 adjustable gas block upper with 18" stainless. Something that may be a problem/decrease the accuracy is the gas block is probably whacking the hand guard. I have not played with the adjustment as it is a soft shooter and has fired every type of ammo with no problems. I do have the shorter buffer. I have some 5.4oz 9mm buffers. Haven't stretched it out yet. I did swap in the EPT PSA 2 stage trigger. I installed 2 in 2 different rifles. I used a light weight Wolf connector, and trigger spring. 1st stage is almost non existent. 2nd is at 2.25lbs.

You can replace the buffer with a Odin’s adjustable AR10 buffer to get 4.6 ounces of buffer weight. Order an extra tungsten weight when you order and use two tungsten weights instead of one tungsten and one steel and you get 5.47 ounces(one the high side of H3). Make sure you order the AR10 adjustable buffer(the short one) and not the longer AR15 adjustable buffer. You would just have to experiment to see how much weight you can use and still cycle reliably.

Would you consider the use of a short heavy buffer with tungsten in a stainless body weighing 5.4-5.6 oz. in this rifle? I see Heavy Buffers and KAW Valley offer them. The KAW is way cheaper. Also Heavy Buffers recommends the use of their matching spring. If you like it, I'm going to buy the KAW because it claims the same specs and can be had for 44.95 instead of the 136.99 for the Heavy Buffers brand. I was also looking at using the Heavy buffers spring. Heavy Buffers also sells them for the Sig 716. Thevy don't seem to like the fact wire spring. Being an engine builder, that includes drag racing and being into matching the correct cams, compression, pushrod lengths, valve spring installed height, etc. I'm into hot rodding my rifle to perform at its peak in the same way. Thanks for teaching me, cant easily find this information anywhere else.

So I've been passing up this gun because the website says "it weighs 10 pounds" with no elaboration. Your comment of "about 8 lbs" got me searching, and another review said it weighed 10lb with a nominal Leupold scope, Burris (heavy!) mount, and a Vickers sling. Take away that weight and you're back to "about 8 lb" unloaded. That's pretty much par for this AR genre.
PSA might just need to weigh their guns naked, unloaded, and be transparent about them even if they're heavy. This one's back on my radar. Like, you don't have to hide anything, PSA... you did alright lol.

My Gen 2 lower has a slightly longer buffer tube and contained a standard carbine length buffer labeled as ‘H’. Over-gassed and somewhat erratic performance until I changed to a Spikes Tactical T3 carbine length buffer and a Tubbs 308 Flat wire buffer spring. On my Gen 2 free floated upper, had to file down the barrel nut due to interference of nut with the gas tube. Now my Gen 2 PA10 performs as desired and expected. Might change out the non-adjustable Gas Block to an adjustable Gas Block at some point as a refinement/enhancement. Overall, I’ve been pleased with my PSA experiences as a value focused supplier.

Every time you said , quote/unquote, this is alot of rifle for about $1000 I got warm fuzzies cause I got mine during PSA's Shot Show online sale. Would you believe $549 for a complete PA-10 G3 to my FFL?

I would like to get my hands on one of these to see if the A5 buffer tube would work with a carbine H3 buffer. Looks like it would, and that'd get rid of the short buffer.

Great review. Chris. I was wondering where that range is on the video. I live by Spring Guns And Ammo on Spring Cypress. Actually closer to 99 and Gosling area. I usually drive out to Van Rd. Outdoor range. Just curious.. Thanks for the review. PA 10 Gen 3 is my future rifle buy for 2022 .

I disagree with this as a building rifle PA 10s are not compatible with a lot of aftermarket parts that are “DPMS” pattern ,the take down pins and bolt catch are all proprietary. Magpul bad levers will not work on them nor will the phase 5 308 bad lever knock off. They do shoot way softer after a good muzzle break and an adjustable gas block.

As per usual another great video from small arms solutions!
Sadly though, what makes the PSA so attractive other than the quality of the build is the price point.
PSA in their wisdom has decided to raise their prices for no reason other than corporate greed.
I will be taking my future business to other companies like Aero who have maintained A consistent & reasonable price point.

I dont like that I can't use a phase 5 BAD lever on PSA 10s. Not sure if they fixed that with the g3 but the G2 were not my favorite large frame ARs

I need to look into changing out the buffer tube, and buffer. I did get the adjustable gas block and Geissele Super Semi-Automatic Enhanced (SSA-E) Trigger with the rifle. Once I get the buffer up to mil spec, I'll be happy even if I don't need it. I'm also thinking about running a strike industries flat spring. Is this something you would do if you had it?

Chris PSA offers an AR10 kit in a full size rifle 20" barrel and full A2 style stock. How do you think it would fair against this model recoil and accuracy wise? I'm considering getting one but swapping out the A2 stock for an A1 for a better check weld. Any other suggestions you may have are aprchiated. Thanks and great review.

Great review. If you were to chage to two tungsten weights would that make it a lot better weapon? Or would an entire buffer tube package be needed? Thx!

I put a h3 buffer and it slowed the cycle speed to about perfect. I also had to put 1 quarter down the buffer tube to stop the bolt carrier from over traveling and hitting the receiver extension.

I have many cases of surplus 7.62x51 ammo (various countries, quality ammo) which shoots flawlessly in my M1a (both of them). I have never seen an AR-10 that will digest and accurately shoot surplus 7.62x51, but I have not been around many of the new AR-10s (my experience is 10-12 years old, so I would hope there has been some improvement in the platform, industry wide.
I am tempted with the PAR-10, as I have MANY PSA AR-15 kits built and love them.
