      @ETuss713 4 роки тому +3

      @Nobody Too You Wolf makes zero ammo. They label privately label all their ammo (Whether it be made in the Ukraine, Russia, or elsewhere). Where the majority comes from varies depending on caliber and type. In .223 and 7.62x39 Wolf gets a very large portion from Tula Cartridge Works (TCW). Barnaul has separated themselves from other steel cased Russian ammo manufacturers in my experience.

      @@duroisgawd I've had quite a few short strokes on the Tula made wolf .223. Though anecdotal, that would indicate that they are weak loads. The military classic and Barnaul ones don't give me any issues other than being banned from indoor use.

    I used an ATI polymer receiver with a Bushmaster A2 upper and slidefire bump stock.
    Basically a demo gun to use at machine gun shoots and used it in 2013 to demo to some ATF agents at their yearly qualifications.
    The agents had fun with the slidefire stock and enjoyed themselves.
    After 20k rounds I did find some stress cracks around the front and rear takedown pins.
    I have repaired the lower and but had a change to test out the repairs.

    Thanks for a good, informative, non-condescending video! Regarding relative quality with more expensive makes, it seems that 'quality' mainly means durability under long, heavy use. I have over 3k rounds through my M&P Sport II, often with cheaper ammo in multi-hundred round sessions without issue aside from a couple of stuck cases (corrected by cleaning the chamber).
    Regarding chrome v nitride, Mr GunsNGear started a comparison in association with Faxon, and the impression I got was that chrome is more durable in full-auto, but for semi-auto use, there's not much difference.

      @@dbmail545 yes that is the CHF series. I personally find no problem with their nitrided barrels. Where else can you buy or build a reliable quality AR-15 for under $400. Sure it doesn't have all the bells and whistles but who cares it goes bang every time you pull the trigger and it just as accurate is almost anything out there probably a lot more accurate than most shooters.

    My very first AR was the ATI Omni Hybrid 556/ metal upper 1/7 twist, probably 5 years ago, and it was the lightest on the market when i bought it, its probably the only rifle i have/ Ar that has not had a single hick up! I then bought a DB15 CCKM300FDE / 300BO, key mod hand guard, all FDE and its AMAZING! it is my 10 year old boys favorite rifle! the only thing was, the first outing one of the weird hex screws/wedges and nuts, that hold the hand guard on fell out! but Diamondback is AMAZING and sent me one complete set of them for free (3 pieces for one hex screw) and a few extra wedges and nuts so thats cool! And i also bought a S&W M&P10 with 5R rifling which was BY FAR the most Accurate rifle ive shot! but had to go back at first because the gas port wasnt rite, and it was a single shot after the first Mag! S&W Straightened it out, and after that.. WOOOOOWWW!

I’m waiting on a Meridian Defense custom AK build and that was my big firearm purchase for this year. After getting several AKs over the years I’m finally ready for an AR-15. AK74 just doesn’t make sense to me right now because of cost vs value of the rifles and lack of variety in ammo. Hi Chris,
    You mentioned wanting to test an M&P-10. I have a 3-4-year-old 18” barrel one, and the barrel, upper/lower receivers, BCG are original, but many modifications/enhancements have been made, such as Geiselle SSAE trigger & extra power hammer spring, DPMS G2 extractor assembly, JPE ejector & adjustable gas block, Midwest handguard, Radian 45d ambi safety, offset sights, Leupold VX6 2-12x44 Ballistic Firedot scope in Aero Presision SPR lightweight mount, offset lightweight sights with Blitzkrieg luminescent yellow front chevron sight, POF roller cam pin, VG6 Gamma 3-port brake with PA stainless shim (not a crush washer), V7 aluminum ejection port cover & aluminum rod & aluminum castle-nut & low profile aluminum forward assist, extended right side aluminum magazine release, Radian ambi SD charging handle & 45d ambi safety, Paul Leitner Wise patented buffer retainer. Spikes power filled buffer, Tubb flat 308 buffer/recoil spring, and probably other things I forgot. Even though it is Kalifornia-ized with a Thorsden stock and a Limbsaver recoil pad, I also have an MFT Minimalist stock and Magpul K2 grip for use in free-states (which makes the rifle a pound lighter). The rifle is shoots MOA, recoils little, and is 100% reliable.
    Please let me know if you and/or Henry Chan would like to try it out.

The 3rd one you almost had to hammer the mag in the well and it was even harder to get out if you ever got it in. I bought a 18in DB 223 wylde upper that had a bull barrel for a price too good to be true (barely over $200 this year). Well the "too good to be true part was the upper receiver. I tried to mount a scope on it and it canted my scope very noticeably about 3-4 degrees to the left. So I just bought and Aero upper receiver to replace it. Thought about chucking the DB upper, but Im thinking I should just build an upper with a regular red dot.

    I like my ATI! And you are spot on with the gas block. I ended up replacing the clamp on gas block that came with the carbine with an Aero Precision and never had issues except I did end up breaking my upper reciever but I blame that on myself. I shotgunned the carbine in a clamp which had all my attachments on the front end of it and it cracked so I had to replace it which was very inexpensive. I just bought a new stripped upper and put all the other parts back in. At the time it cost $35 for the stripped upper!

    I appeal to your experience inside Colt and observance of the QC procedures: When I discussed the critical location of the gas port drill torturing the grooves and lands as it penetrates the barrel wall, I was essentially rebuffed. "With all the other timing issues stacked up, the port location to dodge brutalizing the groove and land it penetrates, we cannot control location of the gas port in relation to the rifling." How does Colt / FN control the burrs raised or half moon port profiles and chrome plate over them to forever be a snag for bullets passing through on the way to the muzzle?

    • @oldscratch3535
      @oldscratch3535 4 роки тому +1

      Depending on gas port diameter, there is no way to avoid hitting both the lands and grooves b/c the distance b/t them is less than the diameter of the gas port drill. There is no point in doing what you're asking.
      As you fire the rifle the gas port is continually being eroded. Any burrs are going to be worn/smoothed away. A quality barrel maker is going to have the drilling process sufficiently dialed in as to not leave burrs, or they will at least de-burr the hole.
      If you don't believe me, watch the InRange series of interviews with the guy from Faxon. This question was specifically addressed and he said that their testing showed no improvement in accuracy when adjusting the gas port placement in relation to the rifling. He also brought up that it is physically impossible to put a gas port in b/t the lands on a 5.56 barrel b/c the distance is smaller than the gas port size.
      Hopefully this addresses your question. I really don't think its worth worrying about.

    • @Physics072
      @Physics072 2 роки тому

      "torturing the grooves and lands" a bit over the top in the drama department don't you think? Its just a small hole drilled int he barrel, these are not MATCH guns anyway. If you want that buy a BOLT action. The hole is de-burred and if if not will naturally wear down. The crown is more important anyway not the mid section of the barrel.
