I haven't had a chance to stretch the legs on mine past 100m. Maybe when the weather cools a bit. Shooting Sight makes a trigger pack for that gun that is nice if pricey.
I bought a PTR91 while I was home on leave from Iraq. I loved it. I left it with my brothers and they literally ruined by shooting tons of shit ammo through it. I came home a year later and the rifle wouldn't even cycle properly. I could never get it to run right.
I have one of these as well, a 32K specifically so a 12.5" barrel, and I absolutely love it. Help keep me shooting through covid since 7.62x39 was still fairly available and its ended up as my most shot rifle in the realm of 6k rounds by now. Couple notes about it - My best groups also are around 1.0-1.1 MOA, done it pretty consistently with Barnaul, Belom, and Geco, so even the well made steel case will shoot well. - It accepts all .308 lock pieces since its an identical bolt setup, minus bolt face, so I've tuned mine for suppressor only use with the standard 45deg .308 lock piece - The Gen 2's also were supposed to improve mag compatibility over the Gen 1, the magwell insert they use in the receiver is designed around the Pmag since its the most consistent reference there is in the US, so no other mags really work. The only 2 types of mags I've had run have been AC Unity, which have some issues, and Bakelite, which are expensive as hell
I have one of the original JLD built PTR-91s with a few upgrades I did to it. It’s built on predominantly HK91/G3 components and a heavy match grade barrel by Wilson which was how JLD made them. It’s heavy for what it is but I’ve had it since 2012 with zero plans of ever getting rid of it. It’s a beast and very accurate. The G3/HK91 platform is excellent!!
I'm glad (or not actually) to see that it's not just our post 86 that has problems with metal mags. Ours crushed a feed lip. I will say though that on full auto it is very controllable. I'm not sure which is a slower rate of fire, this or out Sten gun
I had the same issue with steel AK magazines. I sent the gun back to PTR with an older pre-ban AK mag and they modified the mag catch or release to accept these types of mags. Now it works with both PMags and older ones.
My 32 is a good gun . Big for what it is , but has been dead nuts reliable with magpuls and some steel mags as well as the pro mag drum . I did mine in wood furniture and run the excellent irons . I adjusted it so that my zero is off of the 200m setting as I don’t like the open first setting. I feel like that works better as the graduations are actually for the 91 and are kind of off for the x39 cartridge .
I like your thinking -- I'm wanting to give the open "1" setting more of a chance but I prefer the "2" setting too. I could see the POI change when I tested the 3/4 settings but haven't figured out if those nicely line up to certain meters yet.
According to Forgotten Weapons video on the subject, the HK32 did in fact go into limited series production and about 9000 were exported to Africa, Nigeria I think? Not sure, for some rebellion or bush war to the capitalist side of the conflict because it was a western rifle, but due to the obiquitous availability of AK magazines and ammo, the Finnish Defence Force contract version, which then had not panned out, was the one they ordered.
I had a early version that was simply roll Marked PTR 91 with the caliber on the side of the mag well but it was a pistol, it did fit AK mags. Every once in a while, It would like to get rounds stuck in the chamber., I ended up getting rid of it because for the weight of it irregular full-size AK was lighter
I have PTR's parkerized 32 (version 1.5 according to them at the time) they made for some NRA show almost 10 years ago. I don't use it a whole lot, but it doesn't seem to have any problems. It likes polymer bulgarian slab side, tapco, and bakelite mags.
@@SmallArmsSolutionsYea, I only meant I've been pleased with mine (no major malfunctions), I do seem to remember it having problems with a couple steel mags I put in it, but I don't remember which ones. I try to stick to polymer or bakelite when using this rifle.
Thank Todd Bailey the grandfather of the hk clones after the import ban, and the reason were allowed to have the 10mm and 40cal mp5s clones, he is also the reason the saying hk hates you comes from.
Don't take this as an attack, but your statement about no HK's until the g36 having a last round bolt hold open feature is incorrect. MP5's in 10mm and .40 cal had last round bolt hold open. They pre-dated the G36 by a few years, early 90's vs mid 90's. The lowers/grip modules were even different from the normal 9mm ones to be able to accomodate the feature. Regarding the PTR 32, the only discernible differences I've been able to find between one of them and a ptr 91 after doing a side by side comparison and taking a multitude of measurements are the barrel chambering, the magwell/mag catch insert, and the locking piece angle.
Fine, one of the obscure modern 10mm/.40 did. One prototype which took the AR15 mag did. The ones going back from their inceptions did not. So say 98% of the versions made did not.
Yes the MP5/10 does has a bolt hold open feature I'm not sure if it's internally or the magazines have been modified. The same applies to the MP5 40 Cal both were used extensively by FBI SWAT and HRT.
@@ChristopherGoydich-cb6bd yeah Im glad you gave me the information I was told by someone that worked for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police that their MP5 40s had modified magazines that caught the bolt before it went forward.
My PTR 32 is not as magazine sensitive as yours seem to be. It does seem to prefer full powered ammo. I got a collapsible HK buttstock for it that looks cool but makes an already heavy rifle even heavier.
Nice to learn about the developmental history of this, thanks! The Pakistanis are making something like this now for some reason.. I guess they have history with roller lock building and all
I of course love the looks of the G3 family of rifles, but I mainly want a PTR-32 so as to build a hypothetical "Finnish army DMR." Considering the accuracy of this rifle with the heavier barrel, the reliability of the roller delayed system, and the compatibility with the standard infantry rifle cartridge, it is surprising to me that Finland didn't order these rifles for the DMR role to compliment the Valmet AKs in the short range/assault rifle role in the fire team, especially in light of Finland's tradition of accurate infantry marksmanship. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me on this subject can weigh in.
After about 300-400 rounds my ptr32 stopped ejecting. It would extract the round from the chamber, but would re chamber the empty casing, most of the time causing a double type feed. Before that it worked fine, hope yours does well.
To be fair my 91 is picky with steel mags too tho my steel mags are older than my parents and all rheinmetal production. Alum mags of nearly any condition it takes. Buddy's 32 is very mag picky but again pmags all the way
Bummer on the metal magazines - especially if you have lots of surplus mags laying around, and that means it won't accept drums either. Has anyone on here modified their rifle to accept metal mags - and how did run after?
Great Video! I have been looking at getting a PTR 32 KFR and you mentioned that the Handguard is very thin does anyone make a handguard similar to your HK91 clone but for the 32? Thank you
@@SmallArmsSolutionsTim over at Military Arms Channel is not someone I would consider an expert on roller delayed blowback guns. In fact I wouldn’t consider him an expert on any firearm
I bought an hk21 parts kit. It's a 7.62x51, but I bet I could set it up to work with a ptr32. I really would love to be able to shoot x39 thru a belt fed g3 instead of .308. Now that frt15's aren't machine guns, I'd really like to print a grip module that will work with the frt15 and hk21 ejector. That'd be a ton of fun
That may be feasible. The PTR 32 has the same length receiver as the 91. The RD pieces are different but may be available from PTR. The biggest issue will be the .312" barrel.
Mine takes the steel Korean magazines that my Krebs shipped with just fine. I've had to file the rear lug slightly on some polymer magazines. HK originally made the AK magazine compatible guns for a Finnish trial but the Finns decided to stick with their Valmets. Not many advantages over an AK for more weight.
@@dbmail545 I've heard they suppress well. I did consider getting one of the pistols when they were released. Your fancy krebs came with cheap korean mags??
