I’m from Wellington and I think it’s a great place to live and I’ve lived in London and Sydney so I’m not some clueless yokel. It’s not too great a place to visit, but attributes for living in a place every day and merely visiting a place once or twice are not the same thing. He must’ve gone to Courtney place on a Monday or Tuesday night or something, because Thursday night to Sunday night it is full of people even in winter. And I honestly don’t understand why he keeps mentioning Melbourne for, how is that place even relevant to bring up?
I didn’t move to New Zealand, I moved to Wellington, reason for that the rest of New Zealand the sun goes down and they go to bed, at least in Wellington you can still get dinner at 2 am ❤
@@scottgresham6759 I didn't know there was a suicide but that's real bad. They should take better care of their students. I only went there for a year and a bit before i left so I don't know much.
@@MonkeFive I'm actually a teacher in Asia, but I don't have much involvement with student's welfare, I just write lesson plans, teach classes and do some administrative tasks. I remember the indifference of teachers at Wadestown main school when I had some serious personal issues. A lot of school staff don't do more than the bare minimum to do their jobs.
@@MonkeFive Actually I understood it was an adult youth who hung himself in the playground. Sometimes you hear ghastly stories of child suicides. Anyway enough about this awful topic.
A few years ago an Aussie businessman was in Auckland for a conference. He wasn't enamoured of the city and on his way to the venue he spied a concrete wall.He reached into his valise for a big felt-tipped pen and wrote " NZ sucks" on the wall. The next morning he passed the same wall to find something written under his scrawl. He went closer and found it was........... "Australia Nil "
I've been living here 16 years. It's faith in the superficial facade has left homelessness unchecked. We have water leakage depleting our water reserves - everywhere and right now, businesses all along Wellington's major streets beyond are shutting up shop, which feels like it reached a contagious free fall state. People are leaving, who really wants to stay freely on a burning ship, in the middle of the Atlantic ocean?
I have been raising with the Council, the issues you have mentioned, for over three years. The council are aware of them too. A lot could be done just by passing bylaws, especially the anti-social behaviour ( which I believe people themselves are very much self-aware of others'perception of them). It is difficult to get people in council to change their attitude. I believe we are cursed by our proximity to central government. In that many in local government, adopt an indifference and uncaring attitude to taking action. I am campaigning hard to get fares on the Airport Flyer down to the same price as any other regular fare , for an equivalent trip from the CBD.
@@AllIsWellaus yeah the council kinda fucked up there only been made worse by the more recent one and the bike lanes fucking thordon quay. Are we surprised though given the alleged recording of our mayor giving head and snorting coke from last year…
Moved back to Wellington (regretfully and reluctantly) from townsville in early February and im already making plans to leave for another part of New Zealand..The mayor is a Boozehag and the city has been run down so much while I was in Australia that it resembles south central LA in some parts
I was reading that the Mayor and councillors have very little power, most decisions are decided by a CEO of course who else and the council financial team. The elected members can only request certain directions be taken, correct me if Im wrong.
"Thank the Reserve Bank for all this inflation." To be fair, it was only acting on the government's instruction, printing cash to be dished out while the economy was being strangled by persistent lockdowns and closed borders. Why do you think inflation is currently a global problem?
Remember mid 1970's Wellington was cut off ow was just a lonely town and you could only catch the train to Wellington all walk there were no roads going into Wellington then yea
Wellingtonian here! Nah, it's great here! The city is big enough to be interesting and have great food, cafes and shopping, but small enough to be "human scale" - not overwhelming. The harbour, with the ferry across to Day's Bay (beautiful place). The laid-back pace of life! No "rush rush rush" like in Auckland. The food and the awesome cafes! Some of the best in the country! The "Green Belts" - so close, no matter where you are in the city. Mt Vic, the Botanic Gardens (easy to get to on the iconic Cable Car), the University with its lovely old Hunter Building. The beaches - from those around the harbour to Island Bay and Makara! The weather - it hardens you up! Give me Wellington's refreshing wind and rainy days over Auckland's *awful* humidity and heat any day! At least you can sleep at night on cold evenings here - not like in Auckland in the summer! I'm originally from Napier but I'm a Wellingtonian now and always will be!
Looking forward to going there! I'm a 69 year old Canadian with a pretty great family and we have done some travelling, but never gone there. Will have to do some talking, but will be spending my 50th wedding anniversary there in Jan. or Feb. 2026 with as much of my family - and my wife haha - as possible. Cheer
I got super stoned in wellington like mega baked i had to spend some time in a garden to recover but then I got some creeps from a shop no wider than a doorway they were the best creeps i ever had

So why do you keep mentioning Melbourne for? Are you some super insecure person from there and who thinks everything is a competition or something?
@@Wesda Of course I've heard of it. I just have barely heard of it and barely have any idea about the place. It's not relevant to me. I'm not familiar with what the place is like. I hear little to nothing about it and what's happening there. I've never known anyone from there. I don't know of anyone nor anything famous from there. I am not familiar with any landmarks there nor anything that sets it apart. The only thing I ever hear about Melbourne is that horse race, and I have no interest in gambling nor horse racing. It's like Adelaide or Hobart or Perth. Or Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, etc. They're just some city in some other country.
