I discovered Uriah Heep in 1984 as a 13 year old NWOBHM fan. Lately have been listening to them a lot. Losing Ken and Lee were almost like losing old friends. Sadly on 6/29/21 we lost John Lawton too. I hope Mick is taking care of himself

@@underdoggo929..sorry it took so long to respond ...yes , I discovered heep in 1989 , I too was a teen (17) ..how i got into them was from david bowie & the spiders from mars , i loved bolders bass playing in bowie & had read that he was in a band called uriah heep ...never even heard of them ...soon after i bought their greatest hits album and loved it !!!! ...but quickly realized bolder was not the bassist in the songs but in fact gary Thain and that bolder took over for the departed john wetton , who replaced thain ..lol ...i was very confused but absolutely loved that band . And are my favorite of all time ! ...still to this day ! ...and I am happy to say I will be going to my very first heep concert may 8 , at the Keswick theater right outside Philly !! ...can't wait my friend..👍

Самая первая запись на самом первом магнитофоне 42 года назад - "Firefly" Uriah Heep. И с тех пор нет любимее группы. Светлая память Кену и всем ушедшим участникам команды.
В 1978, в 10 классе, приобрел абсолютно испорченный английский ,,Firefly" ( первая сторона залита каким- то растворителем , а вторая с жестким песком ,но конверт потерт только на 50% и без сквозных дырок, с разворотом, с графикой участников группы) за безумные ( для меня и моих друзей) деньги - 15 р... Проигрывалась только сторона B....И был счастлив , потому что там была - ,,Sympathy"...Как мало человеку нужно...Обыкновенному...

So many things keep bringing this song back to me. The tornado in Mayfield, KY (friends there), the young Russian skater yesterday, my Mom's passing last year, my wife and daughter being in a bad car wreck last year, (recovered now, but it sure upended our lives!), etc...

It's been a bit over 3 years since I first heard this song, and it still sweeps me away. Part of that may be my own aging? But especially with the difficulties of putting something like this album together during COVID... What a remarkable work! And what composer / songwriter at age 75 even comes up with something like this?
Someday I hope Vladimir gives an interview or makes a post (or posts!) covering his work with Ken, and in particular the background to this song. I sort of think there are two threads to it: One being from Vlad (perhaps the original inspiration) about how life can seem to be going great, and then "suddenly" life smacks you up side of the head, as some would put it. Most everyone can relate to that. Relationships and heartbreak as the vid depicts are just one of the ways that can happen. But you could go see your doctor for a routine checkup or something that seems minor, and walk out with a terminal diagnosis. Or literally a million other things...
Or, you could be getting older and staying really busy, and then "suddenly" you realize your time is almost up.
Was this song "prophetic", or did Ken actually know? Or, one's mortality could certainly seem closer during COVID, and maybe Ken had been thinking about it (but that doesn't seem to have slowed him down much, productivity wise!) Maybe that lyric "How can we do what must be done, in one short life?" came back to him? Ken almost always seemed to downplay the depth in many of his best songs, but here he has embraced it fully, it seems.

All these questions falling from a tune in an album called "My Book Of Answers"! But, ya' know, at the end of "Suddenly" Ken tells us the answer and peace he found. May we all be so blessed.
Damn, "suddenly" seems to happen more and more often as I get older. Just found out one of my wife's best friends has stage 4 breast cancer... 😞
