Listened to a Japanese White Label PROMO of Van Halen - Fair Warning Friday night. Listened and was getting blown away. Then. "Sunday Afternoon In The Park". MY FACE MELTED!!!!
I saw the Fair Warning tour at Madison Square Garden in 1981. One of the great shows of my life. We paid $35/ticket to a scalper out front, which we found outrageous! Thanks
I have no interest in double 45’s, but for me Genesis holy trinity was Wind and the Wuthering, Trick of the Tail and Then there were Three. I was a sophomore in HS when I heard Follow you, follow me and ran out and bought that album. The opener Down and Out is so good with that obscure timing.
I got to thank you for the info here….Van Halen is my favorite band so I’m over 200+ pressing including gold stamp promo of all the albums. I looked at both my Fair Warning and Diver Down promo and they are translucent. 1984 was the only one I knew about because they actually marketed that way. Later tonight I’m gonna check the other promos to see if they are also translucent. I also have Japan White label sample of all the albums thru 5150…I’m gonna see if in Japan they used translucent as well.
@@Universityofvinyl thank you👍. I just checked and it looks like on the US promo front Fair Warning, Diver Down and 1984 had translucent promo presses. Fair Warning and Diver Down are LA presses and 1984 was Allied which was in Los Angeles. My promo press of their first three albums are not translucent. Also, my promo cuts of 5150 and OU812 are not translucent. They are Specialty Record presses. On the Japanese side, Women and Children First, Fair Warning and 1984 are translucent and the rest are not. This kinda surprised me because I kinda assumed they would be like the original run of Mofi’s that were translucent and made in Japan.
I'm with you when it comes to the Nick Davis remixes on Genesis. I avoid them like the flu. I have a UK Charisma pressing of Duke and I am not happy with it. It sounds like light and thin and it gets worse as the stylus gets close to the label. The sound gets a little distorted. I suppose some compromise had to be made with an album with a 55-minute runtime to fit on one slab of vinyl. Zenyatta Mondatta is my favorite Police album and it's not a high fidelity recording. I settled on the single layer SACD that came out years ago.
Hi Tim, I have many copies of Fair Warning (promo with the translucent vinyl) including a test pressing. I would sell one to you. I've been talking about this LP for a very long time, about the promo with the translucent vinyl is the only one to own (best sounding).
I don't care for the 45 rpm format either, but so far I've purchased Nursery Cryme, Selling England By the Pound, The Lamb..., and Trick of the Tail in the Atlantic 75 series. I also have The Yes Album. They all sound fantastic. I think that Wind and Wuthering would have been preferable to include in the series, rather than the comparatively wretched Genesis self-titled from 1983. As much as I love Foxtrot though, I can't abide the idea of 'Suppers Ready' split into two (or Close to The Edge for that matter) to accommodate the 45 rpm format, so I won't be getting that.
Another great video Tim I have OG Police albums. Ghost in the Machine an Indianapolis pressing and Outlandos d Armour and Eletrosound Pressing. Both sound good.
Thanks for your video Tim. As a Genesis fan I would include Duke on the list and at the top. Duke is probably the one with the longest duration and the song distribution is perfect for a 2 x 45 RPM. I am crossing my fingers for Duke.

Wind and Wuthering is a masterpiece. My only complaint- I really do wish it was a Gatefold, just another 3rd world problem😊

"Not a fan of the 45 rpm format" yet the Katy Lied UHQR is highly recommended....hmmm

I keep hearing the Genesis titles sound amazing
Great video Tim! Those Genesis titles really should be added in the Atlantic 75 series. Both long albums and could be significantly improved.
