For me here in Chile there is no AAA to come help you on the side of the road. So for me these tools are life savers for sure. I am a Gerber fan but Leathermans are good too. Mine stays in its pouch on my belt all the time. Jim in Chile.

I know a couple people that started contract work abroad and never came back, it seems like the easiest way, but as a fairly young guy, I always like to know what my options are.

So I spent some time over seas. I love the former USA it just does not like me so much. We were looking for a better life and found it. Plain and simple. Less taxes. Less Crime and violence. Less stupid over powering government. Less wokeness (I will not submit my children to the sickness that is being pushed in the former USA about human sexuality and false reality. It is satanic). LESS DEBT to just stay alive!!! More freedom. More clean. More family oriented life. More beauty and tranquility. We found all of those here in Chile where we live. I pay no property taxes. So I actually own my property, I do not rent it from the government. The last murder with in 45 min drive circle around my house was over a year ago. The little town with a population of 4,500 people has never had a murder in recorded history. Can you say that about where you live? So for my wife and family we prioritize: GOD, FAMILY, ............................................................ country. Just like that. Boom! For you life is getting up and going to work (maybe 7 days a week) and running around making a boss happy. All for just barely enough money to live on and that only if you budget well. For me, I retired at 50. What is the likelihood you will live to 65? At 65 will you want to go rock climbing or White water rafting, or fill in the blank? No you will be tired and old. So you work all your life for NOTHING!!!!! NOTHING!!!!! I work for the experience i have with my family. The enjoyment of knowing that now I live for my family. I took all that I owned and bought much more here for much less. Now I only have 3 bills to pay; Car Taxes, Cell / Internet, $36 USD health insurance that covers 100% for the whole family. I am off grid. I have no power, no water, no sewer, no gas, no property tax, no MORTGAGE, no insurance bills (Car and House). So you work a lot each month to pay someone else for your right to live. If i did away with my car and internet I could live totally free! Debt free and free will free! YOU CAN NOT FIND THAT IN THE FORMER USA. It is a life changing experience. We grow almost all our own food. We make all of our own meals and are close to self sufficient. Let me be clear it is not prepping. We are just living. It used to be the way of life for your grandparents. It still is here in Chile where we live. My only responsibilities are to my family and I and those that I chose to help or support. I am no longer forced to buy abortions. Or pay for college tuition, or support someones drug habit through the all loving Government. Well that is kind of the nut shell but there is more to life than a paragraph or two. We found peace and we live for God and ourselves not the job or tax man. Jim

I run a lawn and landscape business and this little tool has saved the day so many times doing field repairs on mowers, string trimmers and even cutting tree roots. Would never be without one.
I waited 20 years to get the right Leatherman and settled with the wave P4. I credit it to saving my right foot I had a long pinch it between a root base and couldn't get it out and use the saw to cut the back of the heel of my boot off and with some ingenuity I stomped the wedge in there was able to yank my foot out 3 hours later and crawl to the truck I've since been able to get feeling back in my foot but thank God I had the Leatherman with me! Skeletool is also the tool for me. All those other more complete models are way too heavy for in my pocket. Carrying a tool in a pouch is also not for me since I don't wear a toolbelt. The skelltool with it's clip fits my Levi's right-front-pocket fine. If I ever lose mine, will buy an other one instantly.
As a 42 years of experience electrician I have witnessed and heard of many near misses, lost times and fatalities having to do with the behavior of not worki safely around electricity. Even though it is a commonly shrugged off behavior, I highly recommend, test before you touch.
You're not wrong. As a starting electrician every time I get shocked it's been 100% my fault. And Truth be told I treat every conductor as if it's live because of it!
I've had mine Free P4 for 2 weeks and I dont leave the home without it. Excellent tool and the one handed action is fantastic! Very fidgety too. My Benchmade folding knife is being neglected now haha 😅.
I was always attracted to leatherman multitools and have bought many over the years. Supertools, waves, charges, surges, rebars, I tried them all. Always found something I did not like about each one and ended up selling each of them after a couple weeks of carrying them. I determined multitools werent for me. Then Leatherman introduced the free series and it appeared to solve most of the problems I had with previous leathermans. Mainly being it was one hand open, it didnt have those stupid bit holders I despise, and had as close to an ideal tool set as I could ask for. So I bought one, a P2, because I thought being lighter than the P4, I would like it more. Carried it two weeks and sold it. I hated the partially serrated blade and not having a saw. Fast forward a year or more after I swore off multitools for the 83rd time in my life and I got the itch for a leatherman again. I made an impulse buy for a P4. Immediately I knew I found what I had been looking for. Its been by my side daily for 6 months or more now. By far the longest I have ever carried a multitool of any kind. Its almost perfect for my uses. The only thing I would trade is a full size file instead of the scissors and I want a true awl. Not the half awl, half screwdriver thing they put in it. I will probably end up grinding it into an actual awl myself.
When I worked for United van lines moving peoples belongings. The Leatherman tool came in handy many times. As a heavy duty mechanic with lots of expensive tools at hand. The Leatherman tool is still quite handy at least once a day
I got my first leatherman as a christmas gift last year. My mom bought one for my dad and one for me. It is the Leatherman Charge and it is the best multitool I've ever had.
I've been issued SOG and Gerber versions of these and while they are both great I always have on my belt an old leatheman in it's fabric pouch with a small punch shoved in beside it. That Leatherman is worn smack out and I need a new one but it's been with me so long and got me out of so many binds I feel connected to it. Handiest tool ever invented.
I bought myself a FREE T4 last year as a b-day gift for myself. I absolutely love the FREE line. They are super functional and very practical. A great evolution for Leatherman. I need to pickup the P4 to replace my old Wave.

I can so relate to this video. The first time I ever saw a multitool was back in 1987 while in college where my instructor, John Bambach, whiped his multitool out to address a problem that we were having with a piece of teleproduction equipment. I WAS HOOKED. I soon had my own and I have carried a multitool in my pocket daily ever since. I've broken a few and just outright replaced a few. Mine old ones don't just go into a drawer. They go into the glove box of my vehicles, the compartment of my tractor, a pocket of my backpack. Occasionally, I'll use mine to do something and I'll catch a scout looking on with that glimmer of amazement in his eye, and if he has earned his totin' chip (knife safety card) and his parents approve, I'll bestow a well used multitool on him to use now, and for a lifetime.
I got my first Leatherman in the 90’s and loved it. Never went anywhere without it. I’m on my third Leatherman now, a Supertool 200 and it is the still the first thing I grab if I have something that needs a tweak or a pry that doesn’t need a special tool. I love this tool.
My first Leatherman I got when I was maybe 8 or so. It was a Christmas gift from my uncle and that morning being a dumb kid the first thing I do with it was open up all the tools on and immediately poke myself on the saw, jerk my hand away, and slice open my thumb on one of the knives. They have been one of my most favorite tools ever since.
Worst Leatherman experience for me was having to hand it over when going through security for a flight. Arrrgh! Hard to beat a Leatherman in your pocket. Thanks for the video. Cheers, David
I've had a Wave for years and carried a PST before that. Some of the features on the P4 look pretty nice, but I think I'd miss the full size file the Wave has. Leatherman has an amazing warranty, I've broken them before and sent them in for repair, they come back nicely fixed and sharpened. One time the USPS lost the return package and Leatherman sent me a brand new Wave to replace the lost one. I'm happy to carry a sturdy American made tool!
I switched from the Charge TTI to the free P4 about 2.5 years ago and for working, it's just the best ergomomicly. I wish it had the file from the charge but it's never held me up on a job. When I go camping, it's still the Charge TTI for me but for work, it's an amazing tool to have. Although the file is smooth, the Philips rounded and the pliers well worn, I still use it daily. I should probably get a new one but it's a tad pricy.
I wholeheartedly agree! I never go anywhere: not to church, to work, to the temple, the grocery store, or walking the dog, without one of these on my hip. My brother in law makes fun of me incessantly, but I’ve found a use for it in every one of these situations.
I too have been carrying a Leatherman since 1995. From working on helicopters in the Army to patrolling the streets in NYC. I still have one on or near me every day. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Have a great day
I lost my 'Surge' whilst re-fencing a pasture. My wife found it 3 years later when walking the dog. It was a little rusty on the side facing the ground but it cleaned up well and went back into use....until I lost it again! Not sure where I lost it that time but I don't trust the little fastener on the belt pouch any longer. There's a pocket in Snickers trousers that takes a Leatherman's well know though so here's hoping I'll keep the next one.
FYI, I got about 10k miles under my belt carrying a Crank Brothers M19. I keep up on my maintenance, so I don't have breakdowns often, but with that and the proper supplies (eg. spare tube, quick link), I haven't ever been left stranded. As for Leathermans, I'm either carrying a Micra or a Surge whenever I leave the house not wearing lycra.
My grandfather gave me, my first one when I was in my early teens. The leatherman rebar. I still have it, but have since bought the wave + and use it everyday, multiple times a day. At home, at work,, even on the fire ground, car accidents and ems calls. ( i am a volunteer ff/emt) I too can't leave the house with out it.
Love Leatherman. I used to be really big on getting the highest number of implements in the smallest possible package, but those multi-tools always seemed to end up in glove boxes, range bags, or somewhere on the workbench. Then my wife gave me a Leatherman Skeletool, and it's always with me. Love this little tool. It has everything I typically need, and nothing that I don't: Good, one-hand knife, pliers/wire-cutters, interchangeable bit driver with two double-ended bits onboard, and a bottle opener. Turns out that all the other stuff is, for me anyway, just excess weight and bulk. I've broken two of them, and Leatherman promptly fixed or replaced both with minimum hassle. I LOVE this thing. Also have an extensive set of additional bits for the driver, including Allen and Torx bits -- and they fit in a normal 1/4" driver as well. For my money, you can't beat the utility and convenience of the Skeletool.
I’m with you I love my Leatherman. I don’t leave home with out it. (Even on my wedding day lol). It was the gift to my groomsman. The free p4 is my wish list to upgrade to.
One of these saved me on a boat, ignition switch came apart on a fishing trip way way out in the middle of no where and I was thankfully able to use my leatherman to take the front of the instrument panel apart to retrieve the parts of the ignition switch I needed. Don’t go on a boat unless there’s a leatherman in the tackle box
The first rev saved my butt in the BSA in '83 about 15mi from the road in the WMNF, when I used it to stitch the Vibram sole back onto my hiking boots with a strand of parachute cord!...wish there was an ultralight I could strap onto my Jammies!
Couldn’t do without my multitool. For me it’s a gerber. Wasn’t a fan of the earlier leathermans. I’ll have to try one of the newer ones. I always loved the one handed flick to open of the gerber 600. My brother-in-law turned me on to them around 25 years ago. I hate when I loose it and have to buy another one.
Love my leatherman. Speaking as a plumber, I use it all the time. And I just want to say I've watched many of your videos and you are a very skilled tradesman
I too am a Leatherman fan. I have acquired many multi tools through the years of various brands (Toolzall, Gerber, Buck, Shrade, Fiscars and many more) but like my old Leatherman for its consistent quality and feel. I am still hauling around an old one because it has never failed me, but may have to consider acquiring that FREE P4 because I really like the one handed feature.
In the Army, the OG Leatherman was a life saver! There wasn't much room on my LBE, but I made sure there was room for the leatherman. Oh, and the camouflaged foam Tabasco carrier! :)
I still have my original Gen 1 Supertool. Had it since I would say late 80's early 90's. I can't remember if it was a gift or if I purchased it, but it has and still does serve me well.
Agreed. I still have the Leatherman Super Tool my grandma got me in the mid 90's. I've had and lost a couple of Waves over the years, but I've managed to keep that Super Tool around. I think about her every time I use it. Maybe that's why I've been extra careful to never lose that one. ;-)
After doing lots of research I leaning towords the p4 and after seeing THE essential craftsmen recommend it... Also want to support manufacturing in the USA as everything nowadays is relying on cheap labour from China.
They started out in a garage in my hometown... When I started carrying the supertool I was volunteering in the local fire department. Not many had them at that time, but I was never without. It got to the point where others in the department called it "The Weatherl" because I was always there & I always had it on my belt. When other firefighters started buying them, they would get asked something like "oh, I see you got a Weatherl". LoL I too love mine and probably will carry it for ever.
I have went through several Leatherman over the years. I typically give them to some young pup I'm impressed with who is starting out in life and doesn't have any good tools. I picked up a freeP4 a year ago or so and have really been impressed. They have fixed every complaint I had against earlier models. It really is an almost perfect refinement of the tool.
I've been meaning to get one of these for a while, unsure of the 2 or 4. I have a squirt on me at all times and that tiny little think sure has come in handy a LOT
I've been carrying, daily, a Surge for close to a decade, and carrying some form of Leatherman for well over a decade. I ordered a P4 just a few days ago. This just makes me even more confident in my decision.
I carry an original Supertool everyday. I like the steel on the older tools better than some of the newer tools. I also like the older tools because they are 💯 made in the USA. I've been interested in the P4 for a while. Keep up the great content.
Well Scott it’s a wonderful thing when you manage to find something that fits your needs perfectly......can honestly say that I couldn’t help but be distracted during your presentation by the flash of what I consider the quintessential modern multitool, the LM “Darkside”.......even with its collectors value I think the Darkside would be the tool that would monopolise my pocket time....green with envy.
Can confirm. I’ve had my Free P4 for over a year now and I’ve retired all my pocket knives because I can’t be without this thing. Shelling out for the high price tag HURT. A lot! But I have no regrets after the fact. I live by “Buy once, cry once” and the free P4 is just that.
Love it. And I’ve taken your advice from a previous video. If you want to be the kind of person who is able to help someone else out, you’ve got to have tools on you. So even if I don’t feel like it that day, I put my Leatherman in my pocket before going out!

Purchased my first Leatherman from the PX in Huntsville AL in 1991, what an amazing and convenient tool. I'm on my 3rd after breaking the Philips bit on the first two by my own unquestionable abuse. I can't say its ever saved my life, but it sure has helped me get out of impossible situations. The only place you'll find me without it is at the airport or the court house!

Used to get one or two versions of this tool given to me every year when I was married. I always gave them away. I have enough things to carry around without a can opener in my pocket.
The first time I saw one of those, 1987, I though it was another gimmicky tool until I used it. Found out you have to carry two, a screw often has a nut on the other side and pliers and screw driver are needed at the same time. I've made emergency repairs on atvs, boats, and airplanes in the Alaska bush with Leatherman tools. The wire cutters on the first ones were to hard and shattered cutting the treble hooks down to one for fishing clients. The original Leatherman homestead is just over the hill to the west of you in Dora. The old man was a farmer, logger, and bootlegger and my grandmothers cousin. Just made the trip to visit the families graves this past winter for the first time in 40 years.
I don't think you are overdoing it. I have had one on my belt since highschool and for 20 years since, with old ones sitting backup for when I loose or break (usually from misuse to get out of a bind) from my current tool. I always joke that it's the "wrong tool for every job," but it gets it done and is always there.
Hi. I have never owned a Leatherman. I have over the years have had knock off versions, but I never really cared for them. I was born and raised with a jack knife in my pocket. For the last 20 plus years I have carried a true Swiss army knife with a few different tools on it. I would certainly be lost with out it. Thanks
Yup, for the past 35 years, I have had a Swiss Army Knife in my pocket as well. Been through 4 or 5 of them. Most of the guys I work with do carry a Leatherman. I've just gotten used to the SAK.
I prefer the Gerber, myself, but if in need and Gerber wasn't available I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a Leatherman, as I know they are a quality tool, as well. Either way, a multi-tool is a must have for my every day carry.
I keep a wave in each car, the kitchen catch-all drawer, and my work backpack, which moves to the suitcase when I fly. I don’t always have one in my pocket though. That’s probably why I’ve stashed them in various places. I havnt really thought about upgrading from the wave before. Might have to check out the newer offerings.
I live my Leatherman Free P4. I have been carrying mine for about 2 1/2 years. I've actually bent the clip on mine though, need to go to Leathermans website and order a new one.
I aam 57 yo and use to have one about 20 years ago. It went every where with me. Unfortionatley for myself due to falling on hard times and en d ing up on a Disability pension. Nowadays money is a issue. My lical shop had a shoe repair shop and the leatherman is there sitting in on the sdhelf. How ever nowadays i don't have that much money to spare. I live week to week and most weeks i am pennyless a day or two before my next pension. My only hope would be to find one metal detecting. I make a few extra dollars. I would love ev een a old one. I was very skeptical about the FREE P4 and can't remember what finally convinced me to pick one up (I think I had lost and then later found my Wave), but I don't regret it at all. The "one-handed use" thing sounded like a gimmick to me when I saw it in the marketing material. But for my case at least, it wasn't, I really do find that it's much easier to get to whatever tool I like and I don't need to put whatever's in my other hand down and fish for a nail nick to get it done. The Wave is still lovely of course--but now it sits in a bag in the trunk, not in my pocket.
I carry either a leatherman surge , free p2 ( modified) or skeletool cx (modified) every day in a leather belt sheath paired with torch and pen . Depending on what I’m doing that day .
I've never been a big fan of the Leatherman multi tools. I don't have a grudge against them. I just never connected to one. I do however carry a 4.5 inch channel lock adjustable wrench, a pocket screwdriver with a flip shank and a pocket knife. Those 3 tools have saved me so much time and saved me from being stranded before. It might be a legacy thing for me. My dad carried the same 4 inch pocket wrench for 45 plus years! Misplaced once or twice but he never lost it
I still have my original Leatherman multi tool that I bought when the first one came out. I think it is probably time to replace the blade though. 😊 Ron
I no longer have my first Leatherman. I broke it, or lost it. I replaced with a Gerber version. I think l lost that one too (left in a vehicle I traded in). I then got a Skeletool, a Leatherman leaner version with screwdriver bit. It lost the bit and a defect made it not practical. One time, TSA took it. Then I found I didn't lose the Gerber in truck trade, but its so heavy... its easier to have a single blade fold knife and a set of precision bits/driver for computer-electronics work. Nuts, I can't find my Gerber now. LOL... oh I left a Crucial in my weekender bag. Look forward to Nate's video! And that cement-block work garage completion!
I like the Wave and have run them since it’s creation well over a decade ago. I have a number of them as I’ve broken them over the years and would just buy another one to get one back into function quickly; eventually I sent 3 back to Leatherman for warranty service, they didn’t fix any but simply replaced all 3 with new ones. The Waves that we’re replaced were the generation 1s which were replaced with the generation 2s; they are now on generation 3. I have 2 broken ones to get repaired/replaced again and wonder if they’ll fix the gen. 2s or replace them with gen. 3s; each generation has improved with replaceable parts, like screwdriver bits and cutters. I’m a life long scouted and was raised to always be prepared which has includes carrying a knife since I was in second grade, including in school back then, it was a different time. I have had a knife or 2 as part of my EDC, usually this is at a minimum my Leatherman Wave in a holster with a single bit pack, AAA flashlight, and space pen; these tools have saved me numerous times and have gotten me out of a lot of jams.
I found a Leatherman Super Tool on the side of the road back in the late 1990's. I still have it. It’s a little clunky to use and I have a more modern Leatherman tool I bought a few years ago. I notice a can of pine tar in back of you. Please do a video on how you use pine tar.
I "Hope" they Still honor the replacement policy ? I used my Leatherman daily in my military/civilian trade During Desert Storm I was due to deploy and had a "Glitch" i was able to drive a mile to the factory to ask about repair. I was gratified to have them simply hand me a new tool, no questions Later I found a "Mini" on the ground in Canada out in the bush with bad siscors, took it to the outlet in Portland for repair. No questions they just replced it. Currently my "Wave" stayes on my motorcycles as my "Back up" tool
Thanks for sharing. In your noobs only vid (I think) a couple years back I called out seeing you bust out your Leatherman right quick. I was thinking it sure looked like a ChargeTTi . Probably because that's my model of choice and I'm sure most all of them share the same clip. I do prefer a kydex holster though. Ha, now I know keep up the great vids.

Leathermans are overrated and are no longer made like they used to be. The gerbers are so much more comfortable.

I snapped the jaws on my Skeletool and they fixed it for me. Top notch company that honors their warranty.
Skeletool is also the tool for me. All those other more complete models are way too heavy for in my pocket. Carrying a tool in a pouch is also not for me since I don't wear a toolbelt. The skelltool with it's clip fits my Levi's right-front-pocket fine. If I ever lose mine, will buy an other one instantly.
As a 42 years of experience electrician I have witnessed and heard of many near misses, lost times and fatalities having to do with the behavior of not worki safely around electricity. Even though it is a commonly shrugged off behavior, I highly recommend, test before you touch.
You're not wrong. As a starting electrician every time I get shocked it's been 100% my fault. And Truth be told I treat every conductor as if it's live because of it!
I've had mine Free P4 for 2 weeks and I dont leave the home without it. Excellent tool and the one handed action is fantastic! Very fidgety too. My Benchmade folding knife is being neglected now haha 😅.

I was always attracted to leatherman multitools and have bought many over the years. Supertools, waves, charges, surges, rebars, I tried them all. Always found something I did not like about each one and ended up selling each of them after a couple weeks of carrying them. I determined multitools werent for me.
Then Leatherman introduced the free series and it appeared to solve most of the problems I had with previous leathermans. Mainly being it was one hand open, it didnt have those stupid bit holders I despise, and had as close to an ideal tool set as I could ask for. So I bought one, a P2, because I thought being lighter than the P4, I would like it more. Carried it two weeks and sold it. I hated the partially serrated blade and not having a saw.
Fast forward a year or more after I swore off multitools for the 83rd time in my life and I got the itch for a leatherman again. I made an impulse buy for a P4.
Immediately I knew I found what I had been looking for. Its been by my side daily for 6 months or more now. By far the longest I have ever carried a multitool of any kind. Its almost perfect for my uses. The only thing I would trade is a full size file instead of the scissors and I want a true awl. Not the half awl, half screwdriver thing they put in it. I will probably end up grinding it into an actual awl myself.
When I worked for United van lines moving peoples belongings. The Leatherman tool came in handy many times. As a heavy duty mechanic with lots of expensive tools at hand. The Leatherman tool is still quite handy at least once a day
I have been carrying the same Leatherman Wave for over 20 years and it is my third hand! Very handy tool!
I got my first leatherman as a christmas gift last year. My mom bought one for my dad and one for me. It is the Leatherman Charge and it is the best multitool I've ever had.
I bought my first leatherman at a swap and shop for $3. Mint condition with the leather sheath and all. I use it practically everyday!
I agree with your feelings about the multi tool. My experience has been similar. It becomes more handy and useful as I've carried it.
I've been issued SOG and Gerber versions of these and while they are both great I always have on my belt an old leatheman in it's fabric pouch with a small punch shoved in beside it. That Leatherman is worn smack out and I need a new one but it's been with me so long and got me out of so many binds I feel connected to it. Handiest tool ever invented.
I eventually upgraded to a leatherman wave. Wore the blade on my wingman completely out after years.
I bought myself a FREE T4 last year as a b-day gift for myself. I absolutely love the FREE line. They are super functional and very practical. A great evolution for Leatherman. I need to pickup the P4 to replace my old Wave.

I can so relate to this video. The first time I ever saw a multitool was back in 1987 while in college where my instructor, John Bambach, whiped his multitool out to address a problem that we were having with a piece of teleproduction equipment. I WAS HOOKED. I soon had my own and I have carried a multitool in my pocket daily ever since. I've broken a few and just outright replaced a few. Mine old ones don't just go into a drawer. They go into the glove box of my vehicles, the compartment of my tractor, a pocket of my backpack.
Occasionally, I'll use mine to do something and I'll catch a scout looking on with that glimmer of amazement in his eye, and if he has earned his totin' chip (knife safety card) and his parents approve, I'll bestow a well used multitool on him to use now, and for a lifetime.
I got my first Leatherman in the 90’s and loved it. Never went anywhere without it. I’m on my third Leatherman now, a Supertool 200 and it is the still the first thing I grab if I have something that needs a tweak or a pry that doesn’t need a special tool. I love this tool.
My first Leatherman I got when I was maybe 8 or so. It was a Christmas gift from my uncle and that morning being a dumb kid the first thing I do with it was open up all the tools on and immediately poke myself on the saw, jerk my hand away, and slice open my thumb on one of the knives. They have been one of my most favorite tools ever since.
Worst Leatherman experience for me was having to hand it over when going through security for a flight. Arrrgh! Hard to beat a Leatherman in your pocket. Thanks for the video. Cheers, David

I've had a Wave for years and carried a PST before that. Some of the features on the P4 look pretty nice, but I think I'd miss the full size file the Wave has. Leatherman has an amazing warranty, I've broken them before and sent them in for repair, they come back nicely fixed and sharpened. One time the USPS lost the return package and Leatherman sent me a brand new Wave to replace the lost one. I'm happy to carry a sturdy American made tool!
I switched from the Charge TTI to the free P4 about 2.5 years ago and for working, it's just the best ergomomicly. I wish it had the file from the charge but it's never held me up on a job. When I go camping, it's still the Charge TTI for me but for work, it's an amazing tool to have. Although the file is smooth, the Philips rounded and the pliers well worn, I still use it daily. I should probably get a new one but it's a tad pricy.
I wholeheartedly agree! I never go anywhere: not to church, to work, to the temple, the grocery store, or walking the dog, without one of these on my hip.
My brother in law makes fun of me incessantly, but I’ve found a use for it in every one of these situations.

I too have been carrying a Leatherman since 1995. From working on helicopters in the Army to patrolling the streets in NYC. I still have one on or near me every day. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Have a great day

I lost my 'Surge' whilst re-fencing a pasture. My wife found it 3 years later when walking the dog. It was a little rusty on the side facing the ground but it cleaned up well and went back into use....until I lost it again! Not sure where I lost it that time but I don't trust the little fastener on the belt pouch any longer. There's a pocket in Snickers trousers that takes a Leatherman's well know though so here's hoping I'll keep the next one.
Yes I’m a leatherman guy. Got my first when they introduced the pst. I currently carry the wave as a compromise from the weight of the surge.
If you can, please tell that they should make a bicycle-specific leatherman. I honestly believe they’re leaving money on the table.
FYI, I got about 10k miles under my belt carrying a Crank Brothers M19. I keep up on my maintenance, so I don't have breakdowns often, but with that and the proper supplies (eg. spare tube, quick link), I haven't ever been left stranded.
As for Leathermans, I'm either carrying a Micra or a Surge whenever I leave the house not wearing lycra.

My grandfather gave me, my first one when I was in my early teens. The leatherman rebar. I still have it, but have since bought the wave + and use it everyday, multiple times a day. At home, at work,, even on the fire ground, car accidents and ems calls. ( i am a volunteer ff/emt) I too can't leave the house with out it.
I love my surge with the bit kit. I am amazed at what I can accomplish with that tool every time I pull it out and use it.
Love Leatherman. I used to be really big on getting the highest number of implements in the smallest possible package, but those multi-tools always seemed to end up in glove boxes, range bags, or somewhere on the workbench. Then my wife gave me a Leatherman Skeletool, and it's always with me. Love this little tool. It has everything I typically need, and nothing that I don't: Good, one-hand knife, pliers/wire-cutters, interchangeable bit driver with two double-ended bits onboard, and a bottle opener. Turns out that all the other stuff is, for me anyway, just excess weight and bulk. I've broken two of them, and Leatherman promptly fixed or replaced both with minimum hassle. I LOVE this thing. Also have an extensive set of additional bits for the driver, including Allen and Torx bits -- and they fit in a normal 1/4" driver as well. For my money, you can't beat the utility and convenience of the Skeletool.
I have used the Wave+ for years, its one of those essential's i NEED have on my body while working. Use it for so many different things every day.
I’m with you I love my Leatherman. I don’t leave home with out it. (Even on my wedding day lol). It was the gift to my groomsman. The free p4 is my wish list to upgrade to.
One of these saved me on a boat, ignition switch came apart on a fishing trip way way out in the middle of no where and I was thankfully able to use my leatherman to take the front of the instrument panel apart to retrieve the parts of the ignition switch I needed. Don’t go on a boat unless there’s a leatherman in the tackle box
On the farm or in the bush I always have my wave. If I'm out and about its the rev. I'm never without either of those.

The first rev saved my butt in the BSA in '83 about 15mi from the road in the WMNF, when I used it to stitch the Vibram sole back onto my hiking boots with a strand of parachute cord!...wish there was an ultralight I could strap onto my Jammies!
Couldn’t do without my multitool. For me it’s a gerber. Wasn’t a fan of the earlier leathermans. I’ll have to try one of the newer ones. I always loved the one handed flick to open of the gerber 600. My brother-in-law turned me on to them around 25 years ago. I hate when I loose it and have to buy another one.

I too am a Leatherman fan. I have acquired many multi tools through the years of various brands (Toolzall, Gerber, Buck, Shrade, Fiscars and many more) but like my old Leatherman for its consistent quality and feel. I am still hauling around an old one because it has never failed me, but may have to consider acquiring that FREE P4 because I really like the one handed feature.

In the Army, the OG Leatherman was a life saver! There wasn't much room on my LBE, but I made sure there was room for the leatherman. Oh, and the camouflaged foam Tabasco carrier! :)
I still have my original Gen 1 Supertool. Had it since I would say late 80's early 90's. I can't remember if it was a gift or if I purchased it, but it has and still does serve me well.
Agreed. I still have the Leatherman Super Tool my grandma got me in the mid 90's. I've had and lost a couple of Waves over the years, but I've managed to keep that Super Tool around. I think about her every time I use it. Maybe that's why I've been extra careful to never lose that one. ;-)
I have a p2 free that lives in my pocket, the one handed aspect is a joy. It replaced a sidekick for edc. I use my wave for working.

After doing lots of research I leaning towords the p4 and after seeing THE essential craftsmen recommend it... Also want to support manufacturing in the USA as everything nowadays is relying on cheap labour from China.

They started out in a garage in my hometown... When I started carrying the supertool I was volunteering in the local fire department. Not many had them at that time, but I was never without. It got to the point where others in the department called it "The Weatherl" because I was always there & I always had it on my belt. When other firefighters started buying them, they would get asked something like "oh, I see you got a Weatherl". LoL I too love mine and probably will carry it for ever.
I have went through several Leatherman over the years. I typically give them to some young pup I'm impressed with who is starting out in life and doesn't have any good tools. I picked up a freeP4 a year ago or so and have really been impressed. They have fixed every complaint I had against earlier models. It really is an almost perfect refinement of the tool.
To bad the pliers aren't spring loaded 😢

I've been carrying, daily, a Surge for close to a decade, and carrying some form of Leatherman for well over a decade.
I ordered a P4 just a few days ago. This just makes me even more confident in my decision.
I still have the original one my wife bought me, years ago. I can't go hunting or fishing or any where without it.

I carry an original Supertool everyday. I like the steel on the older tools better than some of the newer tools. I also like the older tools because they are 💯 made in the USA. I've been interested in the P4 for a while. Keep up the great content.
Well Scott it’s a wonderful thing when you manage to find something that fits your needs perfectly......can honestly say that I couldn’t help but be distracted during your presentation by the flash of what I consider the quintessential modern multitool, the LM “Darkside”.......even with its collectors value I think the Darkside would be the tool that would monopolise my pocket time....green with envy.
I use the surge. It needs some maintenance now and then. But it’s amazing. I’m a electrician. It’s a side tool that is always there in my pocket.
Can confirm. I’ve had my Free P4 for over a year now and I’ve retired all my pocket knives because I can’t be without this thing. Shelling out for the high price tag HURT. A lot! But I have no regrets after the fact. I live by “Buy once, cry once” and the free P4 is just that.
Love it. And I’ve taken your advice from a previous video. If you want to be the kind of person who is able to help someone else out, you’ve got to have tools on you. So even if I don’t feel like it that day, I put my Leatherman in my pocket before going out!

Purchased my first Leatherman from the PX in Huntsville AL in 1991, what an amazing and convenient tool. I'm on my 3rd after breaking the Philips bit on the first two by my own unquestionable abuse. I can't say its ever saved my life, but it sure has helped me get out of impossible situations. The only place you'll find me without it is at the airport or the court house!
I LOVE my Leatherman! I feel naked without it on my belt anymore. I'm looking into upgrading to the Free, mostly because I'm liking the one hand opening
Used to get one or two versions of this tool given to me every year when I was married. I always gave them away. I have enough things to carry around without a can opener in my pocket.
The first time I saw one of those, 1987, I though it was another gimmicky tool until I used it. Found out you have to carry two, a screw often has a nut on the other side and pliers and screw driver are needed at the same time. I've made emergency repairs on atvs, boats, and airplanes in the Alaska bush with Leatherman tools. The wire cutters on the first ones were to hard and shattered cutting the treble hooks down to one for fishing clients.
The original Leatherman homestead is just over the hill to the west of you in Dora. The old man was a farmer, logger, and bootlegger and my grandmothers cousin. Just made the trip to visit the families graves this past winter for the first time in 40 years.
I don't think you are overdoing it. I have had one on my belt since highschool and for 20 years since, with old ones sitting backup for when I loose or break (usually from misuse to get out of a bind) from my current tool. I always joke that it's the "wrong tool for every job," but it gets it done and is always there.
Hi. I have never owned a Leatherman. I have over the years have had knock off versions, but I never really cared for them. I was born and raised with a jack knife in my pocket. For the last 20 plus years I have carried a true Swiss army knife with a few different tools on it. I would certainly be lost with out it. Thanks
Yup, for the past 35 years, I have had a Swiss Army Knife in my pocket as well. Been through 4 or 5 of them. Most of the guys I work with do carry a Leatherman. I've just gotten used to the SAK.

I have a Wave on my person always, my Surge is my back up. I wouldn’t be without one and they get used every day on almost every job.
I prefer the Gerber, myself, but if in need and Gerber wasn't available I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a Leatherman, as I know they are a quality tool, as well. Either way, a multi-tool is a must have for my every day carry.
I keep a wave in each car, the kitchen catch-all drawer, and my work backpack, which moves to the suitcase when I fly. I don’t always have one in my pocket though. That’s probably why I’ve stashed them in various places. I havnt really thought about upgrading from the wave before. Might have to check out the newer offerings.

I live my Leatherman Free P4. I have been carrying mine for about 2 1/2 years.
I've actually bent the clip on mine though, need to go to Leathermans website and order a new one.
I aam 57 yo and use to have one about 20 years ago. It went every where with me. Unfortionatley for myself due to falling on hard times and en d ing up on a Disability pension. Nowadays money is a issue. My lical shop had a shoe repair shop and the leatherman is there sitting in on the sdhelf. How ever nowadays i don't have that much money to spare. I live week to week and most weeks i am pennyless a day or two before my next pension. My only hope would be to find one metal detecting. I make a few extra dollars. I would love ev een a old one. Being in Australia there even more expensive . Asnyway i loved your chat about the leatherman. Kindest regards

I was very skeptical about the FREE P4 and can't remember what finally convinced me to pick one up (I think I had lost and then later found my Wave), but I don't regret it at all. The "one-handed use" thing sounded like a gimmick to me when I saw it in the marketing material. But for my case at least, it wasn't, I really do find that it's much easier to get to whatever tool I like and I don't need to put whatever's in my other hand down and fish for a nail nick to get it done. The Wave is still lovely of course--but now it sits in a bag in the trunk, not in my pocket.

I carry either a leatherman surge , free p2 ( modified) or skeletool cx (modified) every day in a leather belt sheath paired with torch and pen . Depending on what I’m doing that day .
I've never been a big fan of the Leatherman multi tools. I don't have a grudge against them. I just never connected to one. I do however carry a 4.5 inch channel lock adjustable wrench, a pocket screwdriver with a flip shank and a pocket knife. Those 3 tools have saved me so much time and saved me from being stranded before. It might be a legacy thing for me. My dad carried the same 4 inch pocket wrench for 45 plus years! Misplaced once or twice but he never lost it
I still have my original Leatherman multi tool that I bought when the first one came out. I think it is probably time to replace the blade though. 😊

I no longer have my first Leatherman. I broke it, or lost it. I replaced with a Gerber version. I think l lost that one too (left in a vehicle I traded in). I then got a Skeletool, a Leatherman leaner version with screwdriver bit. It lost the bit and a defect made it not practical. One time, TSA took it. Then I found I didn't lose the Gerber in truck trade, but its so heavy... its easier to have a single blade fold knife and a set of precision bits/driver for computer-electronics work. Nuts, I can't find my Gerber now. LOL... oh I left a Crucial in my weekender bag. Look forward to Nate's video! And that cement-block work garage completion!
I like the Wave and have run them since it’s creation well over a decade ago. I have a number of them as I’ve broken them over the years and would just buy another one to get one back into function quickly; eventually I sent 3 back to Leatherman for warranty service, they didn’t fix any but simply replaced all 3 with new ones. The Waves that we’re replaced were the generation 1s which were replaced with the generation 2s; they are now on generation 3. I have 2 broken ones to get repaired/replaced again and wonder if they’ll fix the gen. 2s or replace them with gen. 3s; each generation has improved with replaceable parts, like screwdriver bits and cutters. I’m a life long scouted and was raised to always be prepared which has includes carrying a knife since I was in second grade, including in school back then, it was a different time. I have had a knife or 2 as part of my EDC, usually this is at a minimum my Leatherman Wave in a holster with a single bit pack, AAA flashlight, and space pen; these tools have saved me numerous times and have gotten me out of a lot of jams.
I found a Leatherman Super Tool on the side of the road back in the late 1990's. I still have it. It’s a little clunky to use and I have a more modern Leatherman tool I bought a few years ago. I notice a can of pine tar in back of you. Please do a video on how you use pine tar.

I used my Leatherman daily in my military/civilian trade
During Desert Storm I was due to deploy and had a "Glitch" i was able to drive a mile to the factory to ask about repair.
I was gratified to have them simply hand me a new tool, no questions
Later I found a "Mini" on the ground in Canada out in the bush with bad siscors, took it to the outlet in Portland for repair. No questions they just replced it.
Currently my "Wave" stayes on my motorcycles as my "Back up" tool

Thanks for sharing. In your noobs only vid (I think) a couple years back I called out seeing you bust out your Leatherman right quick. I was thinking it sure looked like a ChargeTTi . Probably because that's my model of choice and I'm sure most all of them share the same clip. I do prefer a kydex holster though. Ha, now I know keep up the great vids.
