My First Break Down in my Cobra

  • The first time I have called the AA on my Cobra.
Basically, my radiator had a leak, which I was aware about but didn't think it was that big a leak. But over time the coolant level must have dropped a lot, so the noise that I was hearing was coming from the expansion tank.
I panicked, as everyone does, and called the AA as I had stopped the car on a puddle of oil and thought that was a related issue. Luckily it was just the coolant running out, so we topped it up and put some RadSeal to TEMPORARILY solve the problem.
I will be buying a new radiator soon, or getting my current one repaired. I know lots of people dislike RadSeal, but I honestly don't care.

So many comments about the fact the Cobra is fake. How many times will Adam have to tell people it's fake? He isn't afraid to admit it.

I think it's safe to say that 02:26 is what all of us are like when our cars start making a new noise...
    P.S
Great video Adam! Just so you know, that "Stop-Leak" is only good for quick fixes from what I've heard. Apparently if left in the system for too long it can clog up small coolant passages. I'm not sure though, so take that information with a grain of salt *;)*

Spot on with the stop leak - I have served 30 years as a professional mechanic. I would rather tow my vehicle home that go anywhere near it with that. Egg whites would probably be better!!

Thanks for showing the real world issues a replica can encounter. Still worth it tough for a Dax Cobra

  • @jaguar420g

Makes me laugh when idiots say its just a kit car, the original was an ac car sent to America to have a great big American v8 stuffed in it with vw beetle steering column mgb steering rack ect ect and that was classed as original LOL good on you Adam people no doubt shouting off who cannot even afford a replica, And another point which is often mentioned is that the replica's drive better than the originals due to better quality parts now than in the 60,s. After having a think about it the conclusion must be that the originals are in England. the earliest ones went to America and were AC but just hot-rodded and given a title of Shelby Cobra. Put a giant American v8 in a Morris minor plus Jag rear and viva front end what do you end up with a Morris minor Hotrod.

There were other changes made to the AC in Shelbys hands, however I do agree with what you're saying. Anyone who bitches about Adam's car 'not being real' needs to get their head out of their asshole and do some research. I would LOVE to own a replica or any euro sports car for that matter, so props to him.

I built a Cobra with a 302 Ford and 5 speed T5 box. Took me 4 years on and off and first registered it in 1992 and drove it daily till 2002 when I sold it.
I used 2 x Audi 500 fans pulling through the rad which worked a treat.
But I did not install a thermo-switch to automatically start the fans when it got to temp. I never trust those things as they can fail without any warning and then overheating can result.
If your fan was not running and you had to hit the override switch to get it going while overheating was present was that actually working?
I used a simple manual switch and just used to switch the fans on when in traffic etc. with low airflow - never a problem.
But I like your Cobra, she looks great and sounds great and I know it is a LOT of fun!

That cars not an amateur rich boy car. You need to know how to fix and maintain it. It will fall apart, it will breakdown. It's what they do... Failing to check coolants when you know there's a leak was abit dumb I'm afraid. You should carry anti freeze at all times. Water will boil at lower temps, that will cause serious over heating issues if no antifreeze is added. Also watch the gauges, and think about getting an electronic switch to turn that fan on when temperature gets warm. Also, radweld as others have said is a quick fix, and won't do your engine much good. It's NOT designed for high spec engines, its for old cars which have lower tolerances. You need to do a full coolant flush asap and get either a new radiator, or maybe an epoxy putty which seals the radiator like a polyfiller on the outside which will look messy and may fail when you really don't want it to.

Christian Buczko You know nothing about me. I have owned three classic cars, and I am already aware of everything you have said. I simply slipped up, made a mistake like everyone does. I didn't know how bad the leak was, and have now since concluded that it had got much worse than it had been. Amateur rich boy is cute.
