Visited Richard's grave on Tuesday in Stratford, Ontario. Couldn't find BIG PINK flowers, but we left little pink flowers. RIP, Mr. Manuel, Mr. Helm, Mr. Danko.

What a great song, Thank you for posting this! The version I hear on Jericho is a different version than this...this almost sounds like a working version...the other is slower, feels more soulful, with such soul in sax fills by Garth...when I learn how to upload I'll put it up...I hope people would search and listen to it...just a bit deeper, slower, painfully beautiful, thanks again for sharing this gem...should have millions of hits if there were justice in this world!.

It's Danko. He was a tenor. Manuel was a baritone.

...that's Stan Szelest; who ironically passed away during the making of this album. Stan played with them on and off through the years and is playing on some of this.

Jules Shear is a songwriting god, just not enough people know it. I think his original version of this song (on his album Allow Me) is quite a lot better. I think Jules sings his songs better than others, such as Roger McGuinn ("If We Never Meet Again"), the Bangles ("If She Knew What She Wants"), Cyndi Lauper ("All Through The Night"), Alison Moyet ("Whispering Your Name"), et cetera.
His best Funky Kings song was "Nothing Was Exchanged". Jules And The Polar Bears were even better.

This isn't truly a cover version, since Stan Szelest co-wrote the tune. But it sounds to me like it's somewhere between 60% to 80% Jules Shear's work. So, I "put up" rather than "shut up", and did my first-ever upload to UA-cam, so you can hear the version Jules Shear did on his album Allow Me.
So far, everyone I've asked felt that Shear's version kicks The Band right in their collective asses. But The Band are awesome talents!
    Jules Shear's version:

    Or just search for it.
