      A Flip summon is a normal summon

    • @TengoSuenho
      @TengoSuenho 7 днів тому +23

      @GamerZeroZX Actually is not. A Normal Set is close, since it takes your Normal Summon of the turn, but is also not exactly a Normal Summon, or a Summon at all, which is why you can still Set monstet u der effects that prevent you from Summons.
      A Flip Summon is the act to specifically flip face-up manually, during your turn, a monster that was Set a previous turn. This can be done in addition to your Normal Summon, but it cannot be done the same turn a monster was placed on field, since they cannot change battle position on the same turn they wete Summon/Set. Is not the same as being flip face-up in any other way, like by battle or by effect, which is why monster like Guardian Sphynx and similar (think on the PACMAN monsters for example) will not activate if flipped by an attack, they have to specifically be Flip Summoned.

    The reason I think Maxx C is not good for the game is how it warps deck building around it. After a certain rank in Master Duel (almost) everyone plays all the copies (3) they can of it and also all the possible counters, Ash Blossom (3), Called By The Grave (2), and Crossout Designator (1), so before you even decide what you want to play, 9 cards at least are already decided, almost a quarter of a regular 40 card deck. For a lot of decks it just makes them not have enough space to play fun tech cards, and since there are some many outs to it, it rarely resolves so the most it does its discard Ash Blossom from the hand of the opponent. The thing is, this is a best of one game so sometimes you play against stun or Floowandereeze or other decks that are immune to Maxx C so having these cards in your hand feels horrible. If you play the game you might have noticed Konami bans Maxx C from almost all monthly festivals, so they know this card is not fun.

    one big reason for the tcg not being as popular as master duel is the price. in master duel, the most expensive a card can be is 30 ur points. some exceptions are banned cards, alt arts, and structure deck exclusives (if thats still a thing). its absolutely possible to compete at a high level without spending any money. in the tcg, a single card can cost anywhere from a few cents to 100 dollars and beyond, and power level isnt the only factor here. even a rogue deck can cost a new player 200 dollars because theyre gonna need some staples, and some deck specific cards that konami decided should be a secret rare will still be expensive because theyre just less available.
    i dont play master duel more than tcg because i accept maxx c, i play it because its the only way i can enjoy competitive yugioh without having to spend money. i could use 3rd party simulators to play tcg, but thats just not what i wanna do. getting told to kms because i play a competitive deck in the competitive mode isnt fun. so yeah, master duel is a miserable experience anytime maxx c resolves (and just in general anytime anything abuses its best-of-1 format), but its the best i can get, and its free. of course thats gonna make it a more desirable way to play for many people.
    theres also the fact that master duel is just.. more fun to watch. i dont know any numbers, but i wouldnt be surprised if master duel gameplay in general gets more viewers than like dueling book gameplay. another thing that would make master duel more popular than tcg, i guess

    • @Daenijel
      @Daenijel 6 днів тому +3

      I mostly agree. Card prices are borderline predatory in the TCG and a big factor why it is hard to get into the game. Even harder to get into the competitive scene.
      However the format is that much better than MD and OCG. We often ban the problem cards instead of limiting everything. Look at Kash for example: No Arise-Heart (and obviously Mindhacker) is all it takes. Now Kash is a decent engine but not oppressive at all. The only slightly frustrating card that remains is Unicorn.
      The only thing I'd wish for all formats is to kill dedicated stun decks finally. The game would definitely be better without Barrier Statues, Fossil Dyna, Rivalry/Gozen & co... TCG's best of 3 format helps to not auto-lose if you face stun going second, but especially MD fucked up and limited Eldlich, Runick and other cards instead of tackling the actual problem cards.

    • @shawnjavery
      @shawnjavery 3 дні тому

      You're not ever beating video games in terms of entertainment versus money spent, its a completely ludicrous comparison. That being said there's a lot of barriers to entry in playing the tcg. I don't find the price to be particularly absurd, its a pretty clear third behind finding a place to play the game locally and the inherent complexity of the game.
      Its also a rather flexible price point you have for the game, I got into the game in 2019 with a few ash blossoms from the soul burner structure and like 80 dollars of orcust and super quantal cards, I didn't really have to pay for another deck until adamancipator in 2020, and that deck lasted me 9 months.
      Granted I had a good locals scene for getting store credit and played online for years previously so I was immediately going positive in value.

  • @jacobpalomarez5349

    A lack of Max C or overly degenerate formats isn’t the reason the American TCG is unpopular. The printing practices of the TCG branch is entirely to blame. The rarity distribution and archetypical design of the game makes pack filler worthless. The only playable cards will always be $60+ secret rares. The only main sets that sell are bought by stores, who open them to sell marked up foil singles to competitive players. The product just isn’t worth it. Compare yugioh tcg to ocg or to a game like pokémon to see how the anti-consumer design of the sets killed their popularity.

    11:10 This stuff about Maxx C causing a de-lineation in playstyle between formats isn't necessarily true. The best decks in the TCG and OCG have been largely the same across the years since the formats have split after all. Combo decks that have the ability to set-up into Maxx C without giving too many free cards like Tearlaments could with Sulliek pass, or decks that can take a turn off and can leverage the fact that they play 20 pieces of non-engine to buy a turn. Decks like these have over performed with and without Maxx C.
    Even with how much the card affects deck building and game play, Maxx C doesn't factor that much into what the best decks are into any given format. It's not interesting enough to have that kind of power.

    • @ellachino4799
      @ellachino4799 7 днів тому +2

      Even if the best decks are similar, their card contents tend to be quite different. I remember RE Dark Dragoon basically not existing in TCG bc the main draw in OCG for him was how you could summon him for only 1 or 2 special summons but that wasn't enough in TCG.

OCG players don't try at all try to play control/midrange style decks and that is mainly a TCG thing.

I would be curious about what people in the OCG think of it and if it's presence is a positive force on the game, since it's largely gone from a controversial card to a downright hated card here in the west.

    Part of why the new cards demonstrate the power is that they are still potentially viable despite the added drawback. Arguably other than the fact that they split it up into 3 different types of special summoning, it really didnt lose much utility. The whole 'feels bad' of it is when they build a giant board, and then now you are letting them draw into handtraps that can stop you from building your board.
    Might be better if those cards are set into your hand 'face down' so that 1 - the opponent knows what you got, and 2 - because they are face down, they are almost un-usable. Then during end-phase you can flip them face up.
    Maybe give it a hard once per turn 'You may flip a facedown card in your hand face up' so that you can still counter 1 thing, but at the highest levels, you generally can play though a single hand trap.

    To me, the perfect maxx c would have this effect, keeping exactly what it is and is SUPPOSED to be, but also a lot fairer:
    "You can only activate the effect of "Maxx C" once per turn, in the first turn of the duel.
    Send this card from your hand to the GY; every time your opponent special summons a monster this turn: draw one card.
    During your next turn after the activation of this card, you can only special summon a number of monsters up to the number of cards drawn by this effect."

  • @OlgaZuccati
    @OlgaZuccati 8 днів тому +1

    Also, I don't fully agree that the OCG is more control oriented because of Maxx C, master duel has Maxx C at 3 and most of the top decks are combo decks that often can't combo under Maxx C, and very recently, with the infection of combo decks that can full combo you with one card like yubel, snake eyes and ryzeal you see far more combo decks topping in those formats than control decks, mainly because even when getting maxx c'ed they have the back up of a thousand handtraps of their own that previous combo decks did not have. A lot of people used to say that even back then, but combo decks were never kept in check by maxx c, the ocg just played more control decks because that was the average profile of ocg players. If you want an example of that, just look at early master duel, with Halq into linkross into metal marcher into auroradon being literally every deck from that period until konami purged all the cards that were already banned everywhere else from the game

    Well, for me personally, Maxx C didn't brings the worst memory because I had several copies of them very early on and when I afked, I was so surprised to find their prices skyrocketing. The exciting part of the story has to be that Konami finally decided to print Maxx C several times so that I could afford 3 of them on my returning.

    @M1A2C. 5 днів тому

    Maxx "C" is a lose-lose situation when it's played against you, it doesn't give you a choice, it gives the illusion of choice. When Maxx "C" resolves, you have the options to:
    Pass turn, which in modern ygo is suicide, as even midrange decks have no issue putting 8000 damage on the field in one turn, especially with Accesscode Talker that most decks can (and do) run.
    Special summon as little as possible, which lets say you turbo out a boss monster in 4 special summons. Congrats, you just gave your opponent not one, but TWO Pot Of Greeds. In this scenario you pass turn with at most one or two powerful monsters on field, and your opponent now has 9 cards in their starting hand, which any one of could be various board breakers and one card starters. And like i mentioned earlier, most decks can easily put up 8000 damage in one turn if you pass under Maxx "C". In this scenario? You've given them double the resources to do it with.
    And the final option, to take the Maxx "C" challenge, and attempt to either; brute force your way throuh the Maxx "C" and build up the strongest board you possibly can to try and survive and get to turn 3, all while subject to many more handtraps from your opponent that their Maxx "C" is drawing them. Or to special summon so much that you force your opponent to deck out, which requires anywhere from 35-55 special summons depending on the size of the opponent's deck, which only a select few decks can really do. Ironically this is often the best option against Maxx "C", because no matter what, your opponent will have whatever they need to kill you, so it's safest to put up the strongest defence you possibly can.
    All of that is without considering the idea of having Maxx "C" used on you after your opponent has built a full board. Let's say you're going second, your opponent makes a Baronne De Fleur, 4 material Apollousa, Dragoon, Borreload Savage Dragon, and some GY setup too. Already a grim situation to be in, now the turn passes over, and in the draw phase of your turn, your opponent activates Maxx "C". Their Maxx "C" cannot be negated because they could use any of their on field negates to stop you from stopping the Maxx "C", so now you have to break through that board, whlie also giving your opponent even more cards for them to use against you.
    TLDR: Maxx "C" is the most toxic, miserable, and unfair card ever printed, and Konami needs to ban it in MD or add a seperate ranked mode that has it banned. Maxx "C" has no place in a competitive ygo format, when an entire duel is decided on turn one, by whether or not a certain card resolves, it's a problem.

    Going back to Yugioh Link Evolution, a 2019 Yugioh game with sets up to IGAS (Ignition Assault), which is LITERALLY the set before massive powercreep (ETCO/Eternity Code with Accesscode, Linkross, & then soon to be Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon from the 2020 megatins) & I gotta say I really appreciate the small time capsule of a format that it brings me back to.
    Allows me to play my MR3-MR4 decks (mainly Savage Stike & Arc V format with stuff like Rafflesia & Toadally Awesome) against somewhat strong viable decks that the AIs use (like True Dracos, Invoked, Tri-Brigade, etc.) It's a great video game to revisit 2015-2019 Yugioh so I really recommend it for eveyone!!! ^_^
    Only nitpick about Link Evolution is how excessively long it can take to get cards if you're not up for grinding against the bots (/surrendering numberous times to get the compensation DP which allows you to constantly buy packs) but other than that, it's really good for making legacy format decks.

    Max c isn’t too much, what makes it seem “too much” is how much people special summon, and special summon with little to no draw back. How are you going second suppose to win vs a mf who special summoned 18 times? With several negates and went +10. How is that fair? It’s not and Maxx c evens the playing field bc now I have my 18 cards to try and stop your board. That’s why it’s not banned in the ocg bc it helps lower tier decks manage and nerf the free special summons. In the tcg they’re only worried about you buying their new produce so if Maxx c is making people with the shiny new cards from the new set mad, they lose money. So they banned it and now you have to buy the new set or play what’s popular or you’ll just lose.

      There have been numerous decks out there that were capable of summoning a lot of times, on top of milling your opponent's deck with things such as "Necroface", and/or some cards that are no longer legal, making it significantly easier, resulting in your opponent decking out turn 1. "Card Destruction" is also very useful, as if your opponent has 15 cards in hand, that means you mill them for 15 more.

    I do think the hate around Maxx C is overblown. Like unless you have a dedicated going second deck, going second feels like an exercise in faith, praying you can draw the out. The big at least helps to get that out of to at least slow your opponent down. I also wouldn’t say it’s necessary, I got to master rank in Master Duel with dinomorphia without any Maxx C in the deck. However it still does feel bad playing a more combo heavy deck knowing I lost probably lost to the bug. And the worst is still after your opponent puts up their billion negate board, activating Maxx c during your draw phase. The mulcharmies fix that last issue at least.

  • @BloodyVoyager
    @BloodyVoyager 6 днів тому

    The point of Maxx "C" isn't necessarily to "heart of the cards your main combo piece". The main thing that makes Maxx "C" as powerful as it is is that it draws you other handtraps. Sure you'll also draw combo pieces, but most meta decks in the last few years already have built-in advantage generation. Radically increasing the odds of seeing multiple handtraps, specially high impact ones like Nib and Droll, is the strongest aspect of C.
