Phil! My absolute pleasure. I know from your Jasta interview (listening now as per the recommendation of a viewer's comment) that you don't care to read the metal blogs/comment section, so the fact that you came and commented means a lot. You also likely won't see the wealth of comments from people saying they either weren't a fan before (or were but the love dissipated), but 'The Valley' has changed that and they LOVE it. I look forward to seeing you reap the benefits and grow even further. See you next time you're in Toronto!
Yo phil, ur a fantastic singer, really bridging the deathcore sound u guys had, with the modern groove youve established in the last two albums. Badass bro, cheers!

I didn't like Black Bear or Brimstone initially as singles, but they sound great in the context of the album. I enjoy The Valley front to back! 9/10 for me
I liked the singles, but I didn't know about a whole album in that style, but they are AWESOME in the context of the album. Agreed. Same score I gave it >:) great minds, baby!
I've always liked Whitechapel, but felt like their sound was somewhat limited. The Valley changed that for sure. I imagine Eddie Hermida is jealous at Phil's ability to use clean vocals in deathcore the right way haha. Also, I can't wait for the new Full of Hell either. Their new song was badass.
I think they've always been pretty good about pushing their boundaries, but this time they really took those walls, filled them with dynamite and walked away. Also, yeah, Phil nailed singing in deathcore like no other has, and goddamn RIGHT about Full of Hell.
Man, I think it might end up ousting 'This Is Exile' as my favourite over time. I also REALLY liked the self-titled though. The lyrical throwback to the previous albums in the first song was sick, as was the fact that the album can play continuously, with the ending connecting with the beginning.
For a band that has a household name in deathcore it’s so nice seeing them branch out! This record is beautiful and yet so powerful, they should be proud of this masterpiece
@@AggressiveTendencies I have been a fan of Whitechapel ever since their first album. I love how they are not afraid to be more diverse with their sound.
Just finished listening to Devin's Empath (it better have a review!) and then I moved to Whitechapel and voila, review is here haha. Never was a fan of them but this is some solid shit.
The symbolism behind the title “The Valley” is awesome. Not only is it a biblical reference, it’s a reference to Hardin Valley where Phil grew up in Tennessee, as well as a reference to the lowest period of time in his life. This album is a masterpiece in my opinion.
Never was a huge fan of Whitechapel. Listened few songs here and there. But when i heard "when a demon defiles a witch" i was sold instantly. And still not disapointed. This is one hell of an album.
This is the overarching theme of the comments...a lot of people saying they never fully got into the band, but this album sold them HARD. Must be a great feeling for the band.
This is one of my favourite albums ever released in all honesty. Only really looked at music videos, lyrics etc. Recently and it just made it even more powerful.
Lovelace is my favorite track for sure, radiates big Gojira energy going into the first chorus and I've listened to it multiple times today. Great album!
This Is Exile is still easily my favorite Whitechapel record. This new album is easily the best work they've done in the last 3 albums. Also, it's awesome to see you guys give Phil the credit he needs!

When a Demon Defiles a Witch sounds so good. It is almost like Woods of Ypres and Cattle Decapitation had a baby (at 00:24 in this vid and at 01:35 on the track itself).
But cattle decap is way more extreme, if this record had more blast beats, more technical guitar shit, faster and more consistent double bass and some groovy bass lines it would be perfect

You really put this in perspective for me as an almost 30 year old fan I grew up with the somatic defilement and this is exile in my last few years of high school so their last couple albums haven't resonated with me. A New Era of Corruption is my favorite so you can get a feel for what I mean. This new album has struck a cord with me and you've really helped solidify that.

Funnily enough 'A New Era of Corruption' wasn't my favourite when it dropped because it wasn't 'This Is Exile,' so I was unfairly harsh on it. Now, in retrospect, I think it's great. I really did like self-titled though.
Hell yeah! I personally can't wait for them to tour on a proper headliner, where they can bust out more of the singing songs. I saw an interview where they said something about playing mostly the heavier ones because like, when you're on tour with bands like Dying Fetus you kind of have to.
Honestly didn’t expect much from this album . I ignored everything they came out with for the last couple months and to hear it’s this good is shocking
Honestly, you might be better off waiting and hearing the whole album front-to-back like that because it just flows so well and complements the songs via the flow, embellishing their best attributes.
There last album was definitely their weakest but Bring me Home was the song with the most singing in it and was one of the, if not the best track on it imo
Good review my man. I'm already sold on this album, just wanted to see what others were thinking. Good video, well structured and reasoned review. You have found yourself a new subscriber.
Good album, my problem is the guitars. They have 3 guitarists and you can barely hear one. It's like having an army and going to war yourself with a knife.
I'm not even a Whitechapel fan but after I had listened to "Hickory Creek" I was instantly intrigued with this release. I liked the middle section when you pre-ordered the Full of Hell album, that was precisely what I did, dropped everything.
SO many comments from people becoming converts on WC from this album. So sick, excited for them. And thanks! I'm glad it became a nice little aside in the video...almost as glad as I am that I scored the record! Haha.
Holy fuck I just listened to this album. It sounds so mature and focused. The track When a demon defies a witch caught me off guard. The rest of the album did exactly what you said it would do. Thank you so so much for this review
I am a fan of whitechapel. I lost not respect but interest in the band for awhile. This album is fantastic. Welcome back fellas! Thanks for a killer album. I heard all of it now off youtube and I'm thrilled to get the hardcopy on Monday.
Hell yeah! I agree that I never stopped respecting them, but it didn't enthral me quite as much. They really righted the ship, though. Thank you for watching!
Couldn't agree more. I have been jamming this all morning. They have transcended the Deathcore genre and have done what Suicide Silence had failed on trying the same thing.
never been a fan but man am i glad they tried something new, the lyrics are so well written, Haven’t been this suprised since i heard chelesea grins eternal nightmare, switching vocalist made me a huge fan of CG, now i am a whitechapel fan as well
Hell yes. I've commented this a lot, but this is a recurring theme in the comments here. It makes me proud to have the viewers we do, who come with open minds, ears and hearts, giving out love when it is earned despite previous opinions. The new CG vocalist is a monster too.
I think I always overlooked Whitechapel because I wasn't into it as much or maybe I was still in my kinda hipster phase. Got this album, was an extremely dope listen.
In my opinion this is the best album that came out this year. I’m really satisfied with how the band has evolved. Hands down to Whitechapel for this absolute masterpiece. 🤘🏽
Holy crap, I never expected a Whitechapel album to be this good. I'm absolutely floored. "When A Demon Defiles a Witch" is such a powerful track. Also, Brad, you need to listen to VLTIMAS.
To me, "When a Demon Defiles a Witch" is like the perfect summation of their entire career. It encapsulates elements from their earliest deathcore days all the way up to the most melodic moments of this song. I would probably show that song to someone if I could only pick one tune to give them a taste for the whole band. I've listened to them! They're rad. I actually posted on my Instagram story yesterday from the Banger Hangar me wearing a yeehaw (cowboy) hat to throw some respect at David Vincent in celebration of the album. Sam and I talked about how we hope they tour soon.
Phil did an excellent interview with Jamey on the Jasta Show going into details about the album and the story about his mom. It's really an amazing story and something I recommend people check out.
Awesome review, Brad! I’m really enjoying this album, they have took a few risks with this album which have turned out tremendously. They have definitely stepped up the game😎🤘🏼
Thank you Alfie! Agreed. I admire their willingness to take risks, but I think they were very smart and eased their way here in a graceful, tactful way. It wasn't a jarring jump.
I was a skeptical over the inclusion of clean vocals on this album but, after listening to it, I was dead wrong, the clean vocals are excellent. The Valley is whitechapel's magnum opus, top 5 best albums of 2019
Dude, yeah. The clean vocals on the last one were decent but overall the album didn't do it for me, but this time around they just NAILED it. Seriously, might end up shooting to the top of my fave WC albums.
Great review and great album!Personally, to me this is the best album by Whitechapel, I had been listening to nothing else for days now, I liked all singles so far and was hyped for the release. A strong album of the year candidate for sure. Do you think that Whitechapel may be more welcomed in the metal community now with so many people claiming not to be a fan before? Also, sorry for bad english if I made some mistakes, I'm not a native speaker...
Let me know your thoughts when you've heard the whole thing! It's super cohesive and that ends up taking each song to higher levels they couldn't achieve on their own, great as they are.
I am going to echo some of the other comments. I've known about Whitechapel for a while, but deathcore isn't really my bag. The press leading up to this release was so positive that i thought I would check it out. It is one of my favs so far for 2019. It is musical without discarding heaviness. I like how extreme metal bands are starting to experiment and step out of the usual box for their genres.
Hey homie! Gave them a shout out in my Fallujah review. Check it out, if you're so inclined. I would have loved to review their album personally, but if we all reviewed everything we wanted this channel would be constantly pumping out videos, and we just don't have the means - yet!
Definitely a difficult question. Off the top of my head, Phil Bozeman (Whitechapel), Dylan Walker (Full of Hell), Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation), Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder) and...not exactly fully metal, but Jacob Bannon (Converge) is always tops.
I would be very into that. Another deathcore band who evolved into their own sound. I appreciate their steadfast devotion to the DEATH side of the equation.
As good as this album is All Shall Perish will always be overlooked for doing the 'whole grown up, proggy deathcore' album first with Awaken the Dreamers. I remember the amount of flak it copped at the time. And considering 11 years ago deathcore had not even peaked yet as a sub genre, it shows how visionary the band was making that record.
That album is really great. I saw them while they were touring that IIRC. Shame that guitarist couldn't keep it together. I heard he had problems with alcoholism. I hope he's doing well.
I would say Phil is defenitively expanding his vocal performance. From just a screamer/growler to singer. In extreme Metal he is definitely top ten... Outside the subgenre singers like Tatiana Shmaylyuk from Jinjer demonstrate a whole different skill set and level... I hope Phile keeps practicing his singing and reach A New Level (pun intended) xD If you reading this haven't heard Jinjer... Go! It is definitively worth it!
I did the same thing when I was at work for the Full Of Hell pre-book, haha! I can't wait for that album!!! which packaged did you get? @aggressivetendencies
Upon just two full listenings I think it's a pretty good album. Hickory Creek is a very somber, melancholic kind of 'ballad'. The voice, the music, the ambiguos guitar riffs flowing in the background very indistinguishably because the album is in freaking G# I think, everything there sounds so well connected. It's in my opinion the track that truly stands out on its own. Overall, the atmosphere makes this a great listen. I doesn't have many annoying childish breakdowns which makes it sound so mature for a "deathcore" band. I would recommend this for metal elitists who got tired of listening to Obscura, Inferi and Beyond Creation's recent great records.
Jealous! I wish that came here. Hopefully they will announce a 'The Valley' tour soon. It would be rad to see this album front to back, plus some hits as an encore or something!
Yo Brad! The opening notes and I’m like ok? I got some listening to do on a Friday night wit my wife and kids gone for a couple hours! This is fucking great music
I think a lot of people are into this who otherwise weren't into the band, so I think it's a good spot. If it's not heavy enough, you could try 'This Is Exile' next, which is widely considered their masterpiece, or head back to 'The Somatic Defilement' for even more brutality. The self-titled album is a nice in between. Thanks for watching!
I was extremely worried about this band adding clean vocals...but it worked. And I think that can be attributed to a few things. First of all, they're used sparingly. Second, Phil seems to have taken his time to learn his natural range, and doesn't do anything to stray from it. When he uses the clean vocals, he's not trying to over-impress with them and do something he just can't do. No stupid falsettos. No nasally strains. He stays in the pocket, and it's to the songs' benefit. Lastly, he learned his natural range compliments the moodiness of the band's songwriting. If Phil had a whinny, nasally emo voice, it wouldn't fit. But that deeper, atmospheric voice of his fits well with the dark nature of the songs. Basically, Phil did everything Eddie didn't. And that's why this works so much better than whatever the fuck Suicide Silence was trying to do.
Man, Phil blew me a way. Good point about working with his range. He utilizes it so effectively. That's not me saying he didn't try hard because I'm sure he pushed and grew his range over what it was when he first started, but he didn't try to do any vocal acrobatics, which I think fits the somber mood from the lyrics and musical feel.
@@AggressiveTendencies I don't think pocket singing gets enough credit. It's like pocket drumming. Sometimes, you don't need to be Flo Mournier. Sometimes you just need to be Phil Rudd. If you got the voice for acrobatics, sure, go for it. But sometimes it's more effective to just only do what the music demands of you. And of course, as the music grows, so can the vocal technique. But I think some extreme vocalists try to jump too quickly into trying to be the best clean singer in the world, when they just aren't. Just learn what you can do, and build from it with time.
@@princealigorna7468 Playing in the pocket in general, no matter your instrument, is so important. There are times to show off, but more often than not it's time to stay in your lane and play for the song, not your ego.
Thanks brother! Thanks for reviewing the album and giving your opinions! Glad you enjoyed it!

@@AggressiveTendencies
I love watching, anytime- all the time
Couldn't agree more. I have been jamming this all morning. They have transcended the Deathcore genre and have done what Suicide Silence had failed on trying the same thing.
Fuck yeah, Josh! They have crafted such a unique album.
Failed because of Mitch's death
never been a fan but man am i glad they tried something new, the lyrics are so well written, Haven’t been this suprised since i heard chelesea grins eternal nightmare, switching vocalist made me a huge fan of CG, now i am a whitechapel fan as well
Better late than never, my man! Glad you came around on them. I seriously think they have a great discography.
Great review. This band has always gone under my radar. Recognize the name but never heard. Sounds awsome. Thanks for the tip!
Cheers, Jacob! I'm glad they rose from under to on your radar. Much love!
This album has this very raw feeling it's absolutely amazing.
Agreed! The emotions really bring it to the next level.
Whitechael and raw...? They are super clean and polished, the opposite of raw with is fine of course.
@@BanjoSick Emotionally raw, I think is appropriate!
Great review Brad.. kept me from work for a while. The mark of success as I mentioned to you. ;)
Hahahaha yes! Thank you Mike, glad I could distract you well.
Dude youre awesome! Glad my recommendations popped you up ❤🤘🏼😍
Thank you so much, Samantha! Glad to have ya. Tell all your friends :) Haha.
Phil did an excellent interview with Jamey on the Jasta Show going into details about the album and the story about his mom. It's really an amazing story and something I recommend people check out.
Just checked it out on your recommendation. Thanks for that, Jeremy.
Couldn’t agree more my dude😎🤘🏼
I was a skeptical over the inclusion of clean vocals on this album but, after listening to it, I was dead wrong, the clean vocals are excellent. The Valley is whitechapel's magnum opus, top 5 best albums of 2019
Dude, yeah. The clean vocals on the last one were decent but overall the album didn't do it for me, but this time around they just NAILED it. Seriously, might end up shooting to the top of my fave WC albums.
i just flipped my shit. i was waiting for this review and to see that you did it makes it even better!
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you dig it.
You Guys better have another review left for Devin Townsends Empath
Thanks for suggesting Mourn, found a new favorite band!
Hell yes! Glad you dig 'em. Half of them are from my hometown!
That's pretty cool you put a shout for bloodline on here. I've seen them at show and there awesome!
Nice! That's cool. Yeah, my friend Jimmy manages them. He rules, therefore they rule (science).
Yeah my buddy brayden used play guitar for them but I continued listening and they just keep getting better
holy shit! and bloodline? feels like fuckin christmas
A GOOD DAY!
When I grow up I am going to be just like you.
Cheers 🍻 my deep admiration for you all.
Now I want a movie based on the alleged "true events" of this album with the same name and poster.
It would honestly make a good movie, I think.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you dig the review and album. I think it will expand their acceptance in the metal community at large, for sure.
Heyo! Thanks for the Arrival of Autumn shoutout!!
My pleasure! Gotta support the small town home team!
Aggressive Tendencies 🤘🤘
Bloodline is great literally been watching them since they started in the DFW scene and all their previous bands as well
I haven't listen to the album yet, but I've been already astonished by it singles
Let me know your thoughts when you've heard the whole thing! It's super cohesive and that ends up taking each song to higher levels they couldn't achieve on their own, great as they are.
I really liked your analysis so I subscribed :) good stuff, man!
Thank you so much Zachary. Welcome to the channel!
Great review. Feels like every month Whitechapel was releasing a song every month from the new record.
GREAT roll-out with GREAT videos and GREAT songs. They deserve all the success.
That was your best review ever on this channel
Wow, thank you SO much for the kind words! Legit. That means a lot.
We love You, Brad!!
Cheers mate! Much love.
Would you also recommend if I really loved their first 3 but found anything after that horrible?
Absolutely! I'd also go back and give self-titled a shot because I think that one is pretty rad.
@@AggressiveTendencies cheers man! thanks for the reply. my gf already digs it so I guess I'll listen to it if I want to or not^^
Review the new Venom Prison. Front cover of Kerrang! U.K. Death metal.
Hey homie! Gave them a shout out in my Fallujah review. Check it out, if you're so inclined. I would have loved to review their album personally, but if we all reviewed everything we wanted this channel would be constantly pumping out videos, and we just don't have the means - yet!
I’d like to hear Bradley’s full Top Five metal vocalists going!!!
ALBUM OF THE YEAR 🔥👁🔥
It's certainly up there for me!
Equipoise : Dermiugus holds that slot for me so far.
Aephanemer - Prokopton is my pick at the moment. And yes, this is my first ever comment on this channel. So I figured why not.
You guys should review the new carnifex album once it’s out
I would be very into that. Another deathcore band who evolved into their own sound. I appreciate their steadfast devotion to the DEATH side of the equation.
Great review, you pretty much nailed it, I like your attention to detail
Thank you for the kind words, Jessie!
Sweet review, but I was also hoping to see the Vltimas - Something Wicked Marches In album review, that album totally slays!
This album blew me away. And has got me listening to their whole discography. Amazing deathcore with soul, highly recommended .
Phil's vox are always awesome but this is my favorite album from them so far. My favorite songs are Blackbear and Hickory Creek.
Hell yeah! Great tunes (as they all are). Thank you for watching.
@@AggressiveTendencies I appreciate the reply... I just subscribed.
@@brandonmorton2370 Thank you friend!
Liked the review and it’s a killer album, the vocalist has a great voice one of the best around right now
Cheers Bill! Agreed on Phil...just unreal!
I stay with Six of Swords ⚔️.
Pretty good. Even Though!
Hell yeah. They're cool, eh?
I would say Phil is defenitively expanding his vocal performance. From just a screamer/growler to singer.
In extreme Metal he is definitely top ten... Outside the subgenre singers like Tatiana Shmaylyuk from Jinjer demonstrate a whole different skill set and level... I hope Phile keeps practicing his singing and reach A New Level (pun intended) xD
If you reading this haven't heard Jinjer... Go! It is definitively worth it!
Thanks for watching and weighing in. Cheers!
I did the same thing when I was at work for the Full Of Hell pre-book, haha! I can't wait for that album!!! which packaged did you get? @aggressivetendencies
I got the one with the flag and the vinyl is "black inside clear and white half-and-half with white splatter."
great review, album is cool + that SOTS shoutout thoooo
Ayeee! SamOTS is a nice lad. Gotta support! And thank you for the kind words.
Hell yeah. Thanks for weighing in. It definitely a mature sound for deathcore.
100% agree, Phil Bozeman is fucking incredible. Always has been. My favourite video is his live cover of Unanswered - Fucking chills!!!!
Oh hell yeah. That video is mental! Phil is the man. Thank you for watching.
Hyped af to see their set on the chaos and carnage tour next month
Jealous! I wish that came here. Hopefully they will announce a 'The Valley' tour soon. It would be rad to see this album front to back, plus some hits as an encore or something!
@@AggressiveTendencies 2 lucky cities got carnifex added to the already stacked lineup. Feelsbadman.
@@WorstScenarios That's CRAZY!
I 100% agree! This album is an absolute masterpiece!!
Hell yeah! Thank you for the kind words and for watching in general.
The vinyl version has a exclusive song called Valley Of Tress that’s fast and heavy as fuck and I wish it was on the album.
Hell yeah! I gotta get that still. Thank you for watching.
It’s called Sea Of Trees that’s my bad😅
I have to say "where is the love for New Orleans metal?" Whitechapel is awesome BTW 😈
So very glad I found this channel.
And I am very glad you found us! Thank you for your support.
Yo Brad! The opening notes and I’m like ok? I got some listening to do on a Friday night wit my wife and kids gone for a couple hours! This is fucking great music
Hell yeah! I'm glad you got some good tunes to jam while they're out!

@@Reddogsociety67 Hell yeah! I need to order one myself.
The chapel has done it. Congrats boys.
Hell yeah! Thank you for watching.
I love this album honestly. I know some people don't like it but I love it.
FULL OF HELL!!! (also this review was fun)
Thanks Daemon! And damn right on Full of Hell!
How can you guys not review Devin Townsend's Empath?
the first 10 songs from my top100 most listened songs on spotify included the whole album :D
How about Nordjevel - Necrogenesis. I've been looking forward to that album coming out for nearly a year and it didn't disappoint
If I were to give Whitechapel a try should I start with this album or one of the earlier ones?
I think a lot of people are into this who otherwise weren't into the band, so I think it's a good spot. If it's not heavy enough, you could try 'This Is Exile' next, which is widely considered their masterpiece, or head back to 'The Somatic Defilement' for even more brutality. The self-titled album is a nice in between. Thanks for watching!
Never been a fan of this band, but this album is amazing. Love it!!!
This is the overwhelming theme of these comments. Huge testament to the timeless piece they produced that it can cross-over like this.
