This is one of the best OSRS guides I've seen. It's to the point and concise, something a lot of other guides don't seem to do often. As someone who has yet to do barrows, this makes things much more clear. Thank you+
This was so well done and put together, I love how "to the point" you got. It was informative to the perfect amount, and finally an ironman guide! Seriously, very well done, thank you man!
I have no idea why I watched this video as I have over 700kc at barrows, but a very very good video that describes everything flawlessly. Wish I would have watched a video this thorough when I started Barrows on my Iron!
For those that might want to minimize prayer pot useage, here is something my brother and I found worked for our GIM: go with black d'hide body and chaps (if you have god d'hide even better). Keep a single prayer pot with you and have potatoes with cheese for food. With this setup you should prioritize Dharok then Karil then Guthan then Ahrim. Just pray for these guys. When your prayer runs out, tank the rest. The rational is that this way you should only ever really have to drink a prayer pot if Dharok is in the tunnels because you can either tank or outeat the rest (Ahrim, for example, against Black 'hide with have a tough time). The only one that may require some heavy eating is Karil but potatoes with cheese are rather cheap, so you should be fine. This method worked for my stats which were: 79 hitpoints, 75/78/70 attack/strength/defense, 75 ranged, 78 magic, and 70 prayer.
I have just discovered your videos and am becoming a huge fan! One thing I'd like to point out though, if you UNequip Iban's Staff before the Tome of Fire and Equip the Tome of Fire before the Iban's Staff, you will stay on Autocast... but it's also a fair point that keeping fire runes in your inventory will remove the need to pay attention to the order of equiping. I hadn't thought of that method before.
I just logged in on my ironman after a long break. And i totally forgot on which gear/switches were best, and your guide helped a lot. Great barrows guide. Cheers👍
bro really just put the barrows map facing south confused me for a second when dharoks was not on the top right. well done vid though, explained it very well.
Found your cg guide, then just watched all your others for fun. Amazing guides, easily some of, if not the best in all of youtube. Excited to watch your channel explode! Keep up the great work
This is an awesomely conclusive guide I wish I had for starting Barrows on my GIM about 8 months ago. I scoured for guides but nothing was actually geared towards iron's, especially low level, with as much information as this one included. One tip I have, while using iban's blast (yes I still don't have 87 slayer a year later), is that you don't need the extra fire runes in your bags. What you need to do is switch the iban's staff first, not the tome. To keep in mind, make sure you always have the tome equipped when you have the iban's staff equipped. I make it easier on myself and use item markers and mark my tome green, so I make sure it's always on before equipping the staff.
Thanks! I am trying to make guides with Ironmen in mind for that very reason :) And yeah that way totally works too I just find it a little easier to bring fire runes so I don't have to worry if I equipped something in the correct order.
Great guide for new players. I haven't played in a while but maybe should add that you can safespot the melee brothers before you go into the tunnels too. It was super helpful when i learned this on my ironman years ago.
Safe spotting the melee brothers wasn't something I really did much when I was learning barrows but I can totally see how at low levels its very helpful. Great tip :)
Jesus Christ man, I’m only 4 minutes in and the way you explain stuff makes a lot of sense haha other content creators blab off shit I don’t understand lol
I absolutely love your videos! I was blown away when I saw you had 292 subs. I figured you had at least 500k. Very well done videos! I like you demeanor you seem genuinely into the game and i love listening even though i dont play much anymore. keep it up!
Absolutely great guide what inspirated me to start grinding Barrows. ...editing from previously written comment, Ghommal's Hilt was changed back to nullify prayer loss at level 2, where as it was for a short while functional at level 1. :( The guide is back to being fully up-to-date.
Yeah, it doesn't really change anything about the process but it is a really awesome update especially for early game ironmen wanting to save on pray pots.
Ghommal's hilt 2 from the medium combat achievement nullifies the prayer drain at Barrows. Make sure to bring it :-) This was added after you made the video.
Should also know that the medium combat task hilt while worn in the barrows rooms or crypts will not allow the prayer drain to take effect. Finding this out has helped me use wayyy less supplies or have to teleport back to recharge prayer.
Barrows portal and trident are so significant upgrades that I would avoid going to barrows before them. However a solid guide for beginners wanting a few barrows pieces! I prefer waiting due to how good dps eliminates regular prayer pot use and skipping the walk is a major bump up in speed too. For an amazing set up, throw in the healing pool and some strange old lock picks if you're going to do a lot of sepulcher at any point.
While I agree everything you mentioned here 100% makes barrows way faster, its just not exactly the point of this guide. This guide was designed for complete beginners with ironmen in mind and to recommend they wait on barrows till 87+ slayer, 83+ herblore and 82+ construction (with boosts) just isn't realistic. You are right though getting a few pieces and moving on is exactly what you should do at these early levels. That being said waiting till you get the barrows portal really is a massive time save and I mentioned that the video.
i found maging karil is much better. his average defences on his melee side are still better than the majority of monsters, iron dragons have +70s to karils +100s, while karil's mage level is 1, which contributes way more because of how calcs work, you'll only splash 10% of the time because of his armour . you can also mini game teleport to shades of mortton. but ye i'm with the comments, the barrows is the coolest themed place in the game, and a nice chill run around with a fun loot box at the end of it
Surprised you didn't mention using the 20 minute cooldown minigame teleport to teleport to shades of mor'ton, but I guess with how long the animation takes to cast it'd be about the same as Mory legs
Well, the main issue with the minigame teleport is the average run really should really only take around 10 minutes +/- a couple minutes depending on rng, which leaves you waiting for the cooldown to finish after each run.
It's always funny how people refer to the brothers in the possessive sense, like you're not fighting Ahrim, you're fighting Ahrim's Great video though, I actually started with the first two methods of getting to barrows until I got my magic high enough for the portal from doing barrows runs myself.
I have a mid level ironman and I'm looking to get into barrows. I was just thinking if I could get away with using my void gear? I'd probably have to pray against all brothers, but the increased void mage accuracy should help me kill them faster, and I would have more room in my inventory, as I would only need to swap the rune cbow and iban's staff around. Maybe I could take a dragon dagger for specs. I got 80+ range, 60 def, 60 pray, and I can make a comfortable amount of prayer potions. So yeah I was thinking if going for void gear might make the run faster due to more accuracy and range damage even. Or would I have to drink way too many prayer pots if I pray against all brothers?
So, void is great in certain situations but because the Barrows brothers have really negative mage defense, the improved accuracy has very little effect compared to just wearing tank gear which I know seems really counter intuitive. So even though void gives improved accuracy it only leads to a roughly 2.7% dps increase. With Range the dps is roughly 6.6% increase over black d hide and tank legs and helm. So, yes on the surface you will indeed do more dps but very small increases and really in my opinion wont be worth simply because your defenses will plummet cuasing you to burn through prayer pots. Which my advice really if you are an ironman you will want those extra prayer pots elsewhere. Hope this helps, good luck!
If u decide to go with this setup I would recommend looking up the barrows safespot guide. U only need to pray against the first 3 bosses as mentioned. Guthans torag and verac can all be safe spotted by running around their crypts so u wouldn’t have to waste a bunch of prayer pots
@@roseyosrs You can force spawn brothers and then safespot the melee ones. There are spots with sfaespots on both sides of the door. With Karil/Ahrim you have to get on the other side of the door when low, eat up, and go back through to hit Karil/Ahrim, repeat the process and you dont need prayer pots. You can safespot the NPCs as well, which conserves food. And "Potatoes with cheese" cost 9 gp at the Warriors Guild and heal 16 ...
Hey im an Ironman and have gotten master wand, mages book and infinity boots from MTA so I don’t think it’s viable I use ibans staff/blast, what spell would you recommend I bring ? I do have ancients and have 83 mage
So I did some approximate DPS calcs for you and at least at Barrows, Ibans Staff casting Iban Blast will still be roughly 24% more dps than master wand + mages book using fire Wave (Level 75 fire spell). However if you Happen to have a tome of fire then the added fire damage increase will make master wand do roughly 20% more dps than Iban Blast. Also ancients doesn't do more damage here unless you are using Barrage spells which is honestly just a little overkill for barrows in my opinion since the rune cost is a lot higher than Ibans Blast. TLDR: (Ibans > Master wand + Mage Book) or (Ibans < Master wand + Tome of fire casting Fire spell) Hope that helps!
I'm finding it way easier to just mage Karil down. With 70 attack, my DD only has a 35% hit chance on him and the D scim isn't much better, whereas Iban's Blast is still an 80%+ hit chance. He might be wearing ranged armor, but his magic level is still only 1, and that's the most important stat for magic defense.
is a spicy stew the only way to temp boost from 78 to 83to make a barrows portal? it's taking forever to get these red spices with just a kitten right now
never mind, an ancient brew is enough i bought one off the ge. i do understand why you mentioned the spicy stew as i can see why getting an ancient brew would be tougher as a beginner ironman
Definitely worth mentioning the minigame teleport to Shades of Morton as a method to get to barrows (which you can do once every 20 minutes). This is actually the fastest way before you get barrows portal.
I would love to work on some videos with you completely free. Would love to help come up with ideas, help check for changes, and think of odd ball information guides. Just let me know!
This channel is still pretty new so I'm not currently looking for anything like this but you are more than welcome to join my discord community here :) discord.gg/YJku3smxpR
I would have how to figure out the puzzle at the final door. Only because this boss is so easy you can do it on mobile where you don't have any of the plugins
The Morytania legs teleport you to Burgh de Rott and the Barrows teleport teleports you directly in front of the barrows entrance, so in terms of a method of travel, Barrows portal is far faster. That being said, as in my video, the Morytania legs 3 still reward you with 50% more runes from Barrows chests and are still great to get for this reason.
The melee brothers all have between 0 and -11 magic defense, Karils has +106 magic defense. You definitely can still kill Karils with mage quickly but its on average going to be faster with using the dds spec on him.
Ahrims is actually pretty tanky against melee so using the dds spec on Karils will definitely still be better but I will say I did some dps calcs on Karils and surprisingly enough the dps with mage is a bit higher than just melee. So, given that information I think specing with with dds and switching back to mage would actually be better, thanks for pointing this out.
If you've gotten 78 for magic for the barrows portal go all the way to 80 straight away to unlock charge, then get a godcape and void mace and cast claws of guthix for that juicy 30 max hit. You can sell chaos runes to ali morrisane and buy new bloods to make up for the fact that you're not self sufficient in contrast to using ibans staff and the therefore more plentiful death runes you get from barrows chests. You can get 80 mage by bursting temple spiders using the runes you get from the first 200 or so chests. Surprise, surprise i've done that it reduced the amount of times i had to use the altar in my house by a third. It didn't take three but two trips per run!
... and safespot the Brothers and NPCs in the tunnels behind the invisible ladders and piles of round stones. Yes that's right just use ranged on he NPCs as well. That conserves food that you can now eat when facing Karil or Ahrim in the tunnels without prayer pots. You can stand in front of a door and damage them and then when you get low open the door eat up and reopen the door to fight Karil/Ahrim, repeat the process until he is dead. You can choose one of the cornerrooms with safespots behind both sides of the door to force spawn npcs and the last brother to get to 88%. YOU DO NOT NEED PRAYER POTS...
They are commonly called overheads because they display an icon over the players head and I think its just a little quicker to say than protections prayers haha. Sorry for the confusion.
amazing you told us bolt racks usually aren't worth going for and actually explained why, that alone sets you apart from so many people, nice guide!

The melee brothers all have between 0 and -11 magic defense, Karils has +106 magic defense. You definitely can still kill Karils with mage quickly but its on average going to be faster with using the dds spec on him.
@@roseyosrs yes but karils mage level is 0 so his defense makes little difference. You are better off dumping your specs on ahrim
Scurrius guide? For all us new ironment
And please don't bother to get an amulet of glory....
... and safespot the Brothers and NPCs in the tunnels behind the invisible ladders and piles of round stones.
You can get an abundance of cheap food in the form of Cheese potatoes from warriors guild.
Overheads? You mean Protect Prayers. Got it. Thanks =)
They are commonly called overheads because they display an icon over the players head and I think its just a little quicker to say than protections prayers haha. Sorry for the confusion.
