And such NICE people too! Four years ago I used to do medical deliveries and one night I dropped off medicine at a house and the lady of the household invited me in. I'm one for accents and always try to pick them correctly as I did as a limo driver for twenty years, so instead of guessing, I simply asked her where were they from and she said Poland and I told her of my love for perogi since the age of eight, and we both reminisced about a longtime closed wonderful European deli owned by a lovely Polish lady and her husband both from Warsaw. The store was full of products from Warsaw, and she made fresh hot food for their steam table and her stuffed cabbage and her perogies were off the chart! I was buying DOZENS of perogi every week and easily gained 10-15 lbs! When we finished reminiscing, this kind lady said "wait a minute, don't leave yet" she went into her refrigerator freezer and gave me TWO bags of homemade perogi! I was completely blown away by her kindness and generosity. Good stuff, great people indeed. I look forward to making this vegan style.
We in Egypt I can say we r really professional I stuffing cabbage and other vegetables. We add parsley and coriander. We do the stuffing much smaller by dividing the cabbage . The cooking takes a maximum of 30 mnts Thank you
The hours I could spend sitting in the driveway on a perfect summer day sipping vino just listening to his life's journey! A wonderful human anyone would be proud to have for a grandfather! This episode brings me back to a child cooking with the families women making cabbage rolls and pierogi for the ENTIRE family. How I miss those days!
Just saw this now. You are so fun to watch, and I love your sense of humour. It was an absolute pleasure to watch.. keep up the wonderful work you all do.
These gołąbki couldn't be done better! And Eva is just so much Polish by being so shy to show herself and laughing there in back. Właśnie odkryłem ten kanał, życzę Wam dużo zdrowia i szczęścia!
Thanks for this recipe. I didn't know what to do all my home grown cabbage making it today & your recent upload of ziti. I haven't not made one of your recipes and been disappointed.
I made enough for three different households to try these cabbage rolls and everyone said they were the best they've ever had. Thank you and your beautiful wife for this amazing recipe.
I have seen his video where he makes his tomato sauce many times. When I saw this vid I clicked on it right away. God bless this man, may he live long and prosper.
In my family we always cook two different versions for the same dinner (in two different pots, obviously:)) - one with tomato sauce and the other one without (and we have to make like 40 of them, they vanish so quickly:)). And we also use the water from blanching the cabbage together with the stock to pour over the gołąbki:) Personally, I prefer the version without the tomatoes, the broth/stock has this very clean delicious cabbagy taste then :) But both versions are great :) And by the way, yes, I'm Polish living in Poland all my life:) Greetings to you and your wife, and thank you Pasquale - I love watching you cook :)
We also have something very similar in Hungary, I am glad you included this recipe. Cheers go out for all the wonderful Polish people who happen to read this comment!
In Romania, they are called Sarmale (sar mahl eh) - I've americanized it by placing a sliced kielbasa "disc" in between each one in the pot/oven (I both boil or bake them). Also, it's all in the cabbage leaf. Proper leaves make the process (and taste) so much better. I have found that FREEZING them after boiling helps tenderize them (freezing the water into crystals to shred the plant cells a bit). Then thaw/re-boil them prior to rolling.
You are the only one in all the years I've watched anyone and everyone on UA-cam who make them even remotely like my family and I do! Everyone else loads them up like they're making meatloaf. We too cut the ribs off the backs of the leaves and i don't see anyone else do it like we do but you. We too only use 3 ingredients in ours but onions aren't one of them. We boil them on the stove with only water and apple cider vinegar. We also put plates on top of ours! Have never seen anyone else do that. We use about 6 plates tho so they don't come apart. We only use tomatoes when we make a pan we bake in the oven of them. Never on the stove top boiling. Although ours are slightly different I'm still amazed how similar they are! You made my day! ❤
As a child, I was raised on stuffed cabbage. Both of my maternal grandparents were from Hungary and we called it Kaposzta. I still love it and watching you make it makes me want to make some myself. Maybe next week.
Hungary is our neighbor. Romanian here, from Transilvania. It's close to my city and actually we have a lot of Unguri in our country still. But lot's of politics there : )). Won't go there, but we have some very good retete de la Unguri : )).
I love you and your videos. I’m first generation Italian American. I hear your great voice and it comforts me. Love your recipes. So happy I found you. I’m a Jersey girl. My brother in law, Pat Caron was police chief in Long Branch. He passed away and now we don’t visit Long Branch as much as we used to. Thanks 🙏🏽 for your UA-cam channel. Memories of my family from Teora, Avellino, Italy 🇮🇹 happens whenever I watch your work. Grazie a Tuti!
Love watching every cooking show you make! He's the sweet and hilarious grandpa of everyone on UA-cam! You bring warmth, and laughter too everyone watching!
I love this cabbage dish😍my mother makes them, but I didn’t know it’s Polish dish. I’m Japanese here👩🏻🇯🇵 Thank you for your delicious and educational recipe😘
Gołąbki. However at my home we cook gołąbki in broth and make sauce in separate pan. We make actually one of two sauces: tomato or mushroom one. We have also vege version which we eat on Christmas eve. Meat is replaced with mushrooms and carrot, but you can add it other veggies like bell pepper or zucchini.
I am going to make it this week, it's on my weekly menu. I was taught slightly different, but I am excited to try your way. Thank you for posting. You are a true treasure!!
gouloptsi (sp)? Ukranian stuffed cabbage. I make it all the time. A bit different but close. Stuffing: I cook the meat and saute with jasmine rice, olive oil, garlic, onion, chopped black olives, canned chopped tomatoes, herbs. Pour over with olive oil, V8 juice. I love you and your show!!! I'm Italian and my husband is Ukrainian. xoxo
I am Polish but I make 2 different ways ; one with tomato sauce and the other with mushroom sauce - both are absolutely DELICIOUS ! If you do not eat meat you can use all kind of vegetables or even fish instead if you like. Try it and enjoy it !
Mom used to bake hers, she set the rolls on a layer of chopped cabbage in the pan. The stuff on the bottom was the best stuff! I love these and took the short cut when I worked, cutting it up and not rolling just baking it all de-constructed. Started rolling them again and my kids are like "What's this?"
i've made many versions of stuffed cabbage...polish style, romanian style, and hungarian style. when you use cooked rice, its a bit too mushy for me. i use parboiled dry rice. saves so much time and still gets cooked perfectly. not only that, but it absorbs a bunch of the liquid so you are not left with a runny soup, but a nice sauce to serve on top of the cabbage. i also love eating it with sour cream on top. i've dont the baked version of this dish, but cooking it on the stop top is much easier. i also make this dish with beef/pork/combo of both or ground turkey. it still comes out great. i've even made it with quinoa when i forgot to buy rice. also, when i create the meat mixture, i like to add paprika, salt, and pepper.
He is sooooo cute and sweet and adorable I love him and his amazing recipes lots of love to you my dear friend 😊🤗🌹 thank you for all these wonderful recipes 🌹🌹
Finally someone else who makes it with a cream sauce!! Is it regional? My people always made it this way. We were the only ones. Recipe if possible. Tysm
Thank you, Pasquale! My ex’s mom made these too, but only cooked halfway on top of the stove then transferred into a baking dish, and topped it with all that delicious sauce. I think that helped thicken up the sauce...once it was cooked, she would plate it with some of the sauce on top and then add a dollop of sour cream.....😋😋 soooo good... And yes gulumbke (100% sure I spelled it wrong) IS hard to say but that’s what she called it!! Thanks again! Making it this weekend for sure! 😉
Polish food is delicious. I used to work in an area that had a Polish small store, in the back there is a small kitchen that makes lunch to go. Their food is delicious even though I don't know the names of the dishes.
Barbaresco from Piedmont, Italy wine to go with? Yes, they turned out beautiful! It was cutting the rib and rolling just right! Very nice, Pasquale 👍 and I bought the Salute! Cin Cin! mask yesterday! 🍷!

Old school Italians had such a respect for food, my grandmother spoke very little English, but I remember as a kid, not a piece of food went in garbage, everybody went home with those plates with tin foil over it. What I would give to be back at table, food was always amazing
