Spanish should be tough officers/bosses and you mostly fight their other mesoamerican allies. No flintlocks. Cities need to be more colorful, like the Spaniards descriptions irl, they were very vibrant.
Yeah, from accounts we have from Spanish conquistadors, Aztec cities were extremely vibrant and beautiful. Tenochtitlan was described as a "dream city" or like "heaven on Earth" for how beautiful it was. It was not a dull green/grey ruin like it is now after half a century of decay and abandonment. People make the same mistake with Greco-Roman architecture - as both the Greeks and Romans painted their buildings and statues in diverse colours. The sleek white marble finish we have now is just the result of 2 millennia having passed and the paint being washed away by the elements. History was nowhere near as drab and colourless as we see it portrayed in media. One of the biggest recent mistakes in architectural history is the fact that we rarely paint our concrete and brick buildings :/

Most of those are either exaggerated or just outright lies. Most of what we know about the Aztecs come from the Spanish, and those sources are incredibly unreliable. The Aztecs weren't any worse than European civilizations. Just look at the Romans and their gladiatoral combats, or the Vikings and their bloodthirsty raids.

There where only like a few thousand conquistadores to conquer all of mexico. What Aztecs fought the most was other natives.

@@blair5475 The "flu" disease that the conquistadors brought to Mesoamerica killed 90% of the Aztec population because they have weaker immune system. So this would be a unique mechanic.

@@Arik33241 It didn't killed 90% of the population, the Universidad Nacional de México calculated more less than 50% of the population, if you are going to Talk about history, just use the real stadistics instead
You forgot to put scenes of Aztecs ripping out the hearts of captured slaves, the constant slavery of surrounding towns, the cannibalism they practiced daily. Montezuma liked to eat children's meat. Or you can continue with the black legend
None of that has any social impact anymore. But the Spanish crimes do.

What the hell? This is the opposite of the historical events. Many aztecs sided with the conquistadors because of the oppression from Tenochtitlan. And they never felt as one dedicated nation. They didn't treat the Spaniards as invaders. Let alone killing Europeans for the sake of survival of the nation or what you wanna show in this game.

This is what happens when someone watches apocalypto and does literally no more research on the Aztecs. The main character looks heavily Maya inspired. Apocalypto was about Mayans not Aztecs. The Spanish conquered not the just the Aztec but the Maya and Inca as well.
