Richard Sherman and Michael Crabtree's beef ran way deeper than we saw in public
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- I very vividly remember watching this beef erupt. So much happened so quickly that if you'd gone to the bathroom just before the snap (why the hell would you do that, Steve?) it would've been a tricky thing to explain. It was a play that very easily could have been an episode of Rewinder, but what immediately followed forced this story into a beef-shaped box.
But since it burst on the scene in such a major way - incredible play, massive stage, explosive interviews - the expectations for it ran wild. The tricky thing though is beef can be a very personal thing, and therefore it can be misunderstood by those looking in from the outside. We have a good feel for this relationship, but there will (likely) always be some key details that Richard Sherman and Michael Crabtree never share with us. That's ok. Still tastes real good.

I think that this is my favorite sports moment that I have ever witnessed live.
What some of yall may not recall is that quite a few people really really got mad at Sherman for that interview. Lots of personal insults went his way. And then a few days later the video of Sherman slapping Crabtree's butt and saying something came out. And those people pivoted to "he msutve been talking smack base don Crabtree shoving him after". It did not matter that it was obvious sportsmanship that literally everyone does. Then, a week+ later when the audio came out, they pivoted again to saying it was sarcasm. It took a bit before it became clear that a guy tried to compliment his rival, got shoved for it, and had a mic put in his face about 3 minutes later. It was nuts.

Lets go new beef history
That NFC championship was a beef stew:
Harbaugh-Carroll
Harbaugh-Sherman
Crabtree-Sherman
Saying Sherman offered his hand to Crabtree after the interception makes it seem like a totally innocent gesture. Right after he made the interception he sprinted over to him and screamed "good game bro." You could argue that it was a taunt more than a gesture of sportsmanship, and given how Sherman played the game, I'm inclined to think it was a taunt.
Agreed, I've been attempting to shed light on the probable ingenuine intentions of Sherman's "sportsmanlike" gesture for years now. Sherman is not the type of corner that would genuinely offer to bury the hatchet with a receiver he had a perpetuating disdain for.
Edit: Correcting a Misspelling.
Most def you know Richard loves getting into people heads
It seemed genuine to me. Ran up by himself, gave him a quick slap to let Crabtree know he was there, extended his hand out, and said “hell of a game.” Acknowledged every 9ers player he ran by in a similar fashion.
Honestly, that's probably just how Sherman is. The man is built different
It wasn’t a taunt. He immediately shook other 49ers players hands and nobody else did anything negative in response.
