- Richard Sherman’s beef with Jim Harbaugh was petty, never-ending, and altered both of their careers. It started at Stanford where Harbaugh coached Sherman for four years. It didn't take long for their relationship to get rocky and spill into all of our views. From a position change to both player and coach jumping to the NFL, we all remember the big moments from the beef. The tricky thing is there was more going on that any of us knew at the time.

Real story about Jim Harbaugh. One of uncles is the head coach of California’s top high school programs, so colleges would recruit from his school a lot. Jim Harbaugh was one of them. Harbaugh was there one day with my uncle watching film of my uncles team looking for recruits. They were watching tape on one of the QB’s and Harbaugh said out loud “That young man reminds me of a young Jim Harbaugh” . My uncle held back from laughing once he saw Jim Harbaugh was totally serious and not joking.

Harbaugh did not have a problem with the surgery, he had a problem with Sherman not telling him about the surgery.

The whole Niners team was sick of him when he'd give them dress codes and bans on listening to music on team flights, etc. It was kind of a given that Sherman and Harbaugh would clash.

Azure Kite I think they did, and the biggest reason isn’t as dramatic as you think. Father Time waits for no one.
Samir Malla their defense did. No one fears that defense anymore. No one fears their home stadium anymore.
But they all fear Wilson, he is by far the best QB in the NFC and the best in the league alongside Mahomes. A B- offseason and the Seahawks can easily make SB 55.
Even tho it was a messy split when he left the Seahawks, man did I love having him on my team and watching him every single Sunday. We were so lucky to get to watch that defense we had those seasons. I remember at training camp I stood 5 feet from Sherman hoping he’d sign my mini helmet, and right before this lame ass trainer came and pulled him away to go back inside, Sherman and me made eye contact and I got a nod from him, wish now more than ever I coulda got that autograph. So much fun watching those Seahawks teams he was a part of.
I have a helmet from his rookie year signed I don’t remember how I got it signed but I have one and yeah it was awesome getting to watch the lob for so long I miss those hawks

I agree. The 2016 season was the last true season in my opinion.
While Richard Sherman is definitely someone who has gotten himself into many different beefs over the years, he has never gotten in the way of his teams, to his everlasting credit.
Sherman understood the gap between himself and his team to a RIDICULOUS benefit to everyone involved. Mean reason he had a TV job, and his Bucs stint showed, even a coaching gig in the future
(Arians said he wanted to hire him as a DB coach then and there.)

Sherman was a great player , he was also a huge DIVA.

This video was really interesting as a Michigan man and as a person who thoroughly enjoyed the Crabtree-Sherman drama. The only issue I had was with how it was stated that Sherman "locked down" Calvin Johnson. Anyone who watched that game saw that the best secondary in the league was double and triple teaming Megatron the whole game. With Detroit's lack of depth at receiver and the missed called with the football batted out of the endzone. When you add that reception into Megatron's stat totals and you have a pretty respectable stat line. So it's just untrue to say that Sherman had taken Calvin Johnson out of the game. But overall this video was great to watch to relax after work! Thanks

As a Niners fan I am seriously stunned by all these details that I did not know about this beef.
Sherman has always been an intellectual who never allowed anyone to manipulate him into making choices that are against his best interest. I respect that and his game.

I think something that a lot of guys don't get is that Sherman specialized in Communications and Marketing in Uni. The guy is smart as hell at putting marketing himself, and you can never be certain how much is his genuine passion and how much is him keeping himself in the spotlight. Very few dbs have been able to garner as much attention...

Jaden it isn’t the same. The 2012-2013 rivalry was so great bc the two teams were pretty much clones of each other. Young mobile qbs, great power RBs, and insane defenses.

There's no personal beef there. If you watch their pre fight interviews you know all there is to know. Before their first fight they hardly ever mentioned each other.
The only guy cheal legitimately dislikes is jon Jones and MAYBE W. Silva cause he tried sucker punching him once n had threatened to kill him a few times. And before anyone says tito Ortiz cheal just think he's a moron and is overrated but no legit hate there. Other then that cheal just created this gimmick once he found out the UFC was about to cut him because he was too "boring " . It feels like, if you wanted to turn this into, say, a mini-series… that you’d do:
Episode 1 - Getting into Stanford from Compton, and his time in Stanford until being drafted into the NFL (including how his beef first started with Harbaugh);
Episode 2 - His time in the NFL (the height of his beef with Harbaugh).
Episode 3 - His feeling of being betrayed by Seattle and the dismantling of the Legion of Boom.
Episode 4 - Going to San Francisco and turning his career into a more positive direction up until his career ending injuries.
Episode 5 - His off-the-field struggles in finding closure about his player career ending, until he finds himself becoming a famous sports analysis, ending with something I heard him say a couple of days ago which was that Harbaugh came back to the NFL and contacted him…

I think I heard Sherman once say he felt Harbaugh only talked up Andrew Luck to NFL teams in the draft, and that caused resentment from Sherm and other players towards the coach

At least 15 players on his Michigan Team are headed to the NFL this year. Last year at least 8 of his players made it to the NFL. He gets recruits becasue he wins and gets them into the league
Ignorance, possibly. I wonder if many of them are not aware or even capable of a level of reading comprehension that would allow them to apply anything useful to them in their decision making process. That being said, it could just as likely be something completely unrelated to my guess.
I feel like this is just an excuse to talk about how awesome the Seahawks/Niners rivalry was back in the early 20teens but not much real beef. Still, the rivalry was awesome.
The rivalry seems to be back on.....unless the niners end up being a one season wonder and go back to being a huge mediocrity.
If both the 49ers and Seahawks have winning seasons again, then the rivalry will definitely be back. As a 49ers fan, the two Seattle games we had this year were probably the greatest games I've watched in a few years. This season cannot come sooner.

Good is generous describing Watkins. Streaky when healthy would be more accurate. He definitely had a much better QB to play with in KC and definitely came on in the SB at the right time, though.

Richard Sherman is a real one. I love him and I don't know why. Generally I hate players that actt like him and show so much emotion. I'm more of a "act like you've been here before" type guy. But with Sherm, it's so real, so raw, and I can't help but respect him. I think going to San Fran and negotiating his own contract and then going out this year and playing his ass off when everyone had written him off was the final thing that put my admiration over the top.

Only as a way of sticking it to his old coach, Pete Carroll. He was so pissed about not receiving better contract offers from Seattle that he packed his bags and went to their main rival purely out of spite. That anger and spite is what fuels him to be the best player he can be. The trash talk, the grudge matches, the beef, it's what keeps him in the zone. He needs a nemesis to make him push himself, and if he can't find one readily, he makes one up for himself.
